Installed TM Designworks chain slider. Got back from the track and the top bolt was gone. No worries got a new bolt just to find out the threads in the swingarm stripped out with the bolt. Would my best bet be to use a threaded insert rivet since the swing arm is super thin?

Run a tap in it to the next size bolt. And use dome cap style bolts So the chain rides over them.

The best way to do it is just pull your swingarm off, put a little spot weld there to fill the hole. Sand it flat and then drill and tap your new hole. Nobody will ever know it was repaired.

I’ve also seen where you may be able to insert a rivnut into the hole but I’ve never seen the outcome of any of these repairs. Post up if you get it fixed i also have a tm designs slider and noticed my top bolt was loose too but not stripped.

I learned the hard way but use the oem Philips screws on those. I stripped my old bike using the Allen head supplied by tm even when I was being cautious.

What are you going to try and do to fix it? Is it because of the Allen bolt that they use? I was thinking about reusing the stock hardware but figured the TM stuff may have been better, I even used blue Loctite like the instructions called for and it still came loose.

I tried going to the next size but that came out as well. Both the top and bottom stripped so i got a long screw and went through both and put a nut on the bottom..

Im going to go the nutsert route as well. Going one size up gives less threads for the bolt to hold on too because the swing arm is so thin. If I spot weld, then sand and make the same threads I believe it will happen again. With the nutsert the bolt will have way more threads to sink into and I think it will hold the TM much better. Im just waiting on that tool to come in the mail then will post pics when Im done with the fix.

I found this video that explains how they work. Looks like it would work better than Heli coil or welding as well just like you said Goon. Good luck post up your finished results!

Looks good. Im curious as to how long it will last. Guessing since theres no load it would be fine. Wondering if a bolt corroded to the insert would cause the insert to spin.

Last question, why arent the bolts counterbored in the chain slider? Youd think they would want to avoid the chain touching a bolt

I put Anti-Seize to avoid screw from corroding to the insert.
You think the chain can hit the bolt?

Looks great! I’ve seen also where some people use some epoxy to keep the insert from spinning or I’ve heard they can be brazed on. Or just remove it and put a new one on. There are tons of videos and fixes out there for the nut serts since they are what’s used to hold bottle cages onto bicycle frames. What tool or kit did you use? Last question how many threads of engagement do you think you get, looks like the threads start a few mm below where the stock threads would have been. Either way good repair.

Used this tool. Not Sure how many threads Im getting. I have longer bolts if I have any issues with the OEM bolt. Im going to the track this weekend will post if I have any problems.

I ordered that kit today as well; as I had the same exact issue. The kit came with the right thread pitch for the the Allen M5 x 0.8 x 11mm? How did it hold up over time, I know this is an old thread sorry to resurrect

Riv-nuts are awesome…. Learned all about them & the tool in 1989, when my KX 250 subframe riv nuts would spin in the holes…
