Hey guys, I need some help. My wife is 6ft tall, and loves her 07 CRF150R but is having problems riding because of her height. It is the big wheel model, and I actually put some ATV bars on it to to open up the peg to bar ratio, but its not enough. she feels like her knees are in her chest when seated, and its hard for her to transition from being seated to standing. She absolutely loves the bike, no problems in all other aspects but just cant get comfortable with the current setup. If I could lower the pegs somehow safely...
Any help would be better than where I am now, plus I miss roostin the ol lady!
Thanks...

Well she used to have a 125sx, but just didn't like the 2 stroke hit. This bike agrees with her everywhere but in the seated position. I'm not beyond moving back to a larger bike again, but this bike is almost perfect, and Id like to do everything I can to it before I toss in the towel.

I don't see how, at 6ft. tall, she could like anything about that bike. If the power of a 250f is intimidating to her maybe a weighted flywheel would give her some smooth power.Maybe a WR250F or CRF250X with all the lights and stuff removed and re-valve the suspension to mx specs, that is what a buddy of mine did for his tall 12yr. old son who thought the mx 250f's were a bit much.

I wouldn't jack with the peg height unless she likes catching ruts with her feet, twisted knees and ankles suck. Good luck.

My wife is only 5'-3" and she's almost too tall for her 150RB. She can ride a 4T 250 well but it's too tall for her to start. The next bike we get her will probably be a 250X with an electric start.

I bought my girlfriend a 150RB when they first came out and at 5'5" she was really cramped riding it.

At 6ft, and assuming she's a pretty decent rider on the 150R, I'd get your wife a 250F for sure.

You could always consider going with the KTM 250 XC-F. It's quite a bit smoother than a 250F MX bike and also has an electric start.

Either a 200XC-W or a 125 with motor work to smooth out the hit will probably provide you/her with a better long-term solution. Either are lighter than 250F's.

I agree, the 200 is light fast and not pipey like a 125. But because it's a KTM (not a lot of dealers, parts are expensive and harder to get, reliability issues...) I would buy a 125 and send the cylinder and head to Eric Gorr at Forward Motion and have him make it a 144, fills in the bottom really well, 3 more peak HP than a stock 250f. And you can find a late model bike CHEAP!

Back in the days of shorter bikes we would put on tall seat kits with additional foam & a taller seat cover.

I'll have to disagree with you on the KTM issues.
-While dealers aren't as prevalent as Honda's, they are often better stocked (much easier to do with almost no streetbikes), and the internet has made it easy as pie to order parts for virtually anything.
-Some KTM parts are no more costly than the Jap stuff, while others are more. Often it's due to better quality. IE- pistons are more $, but they're forged and last much longer.
-Reliabilty? Unless you're talking about their 50cc Pro models, KTM's are very reliable bikes.

You're 100% correct about 125's being dirt cheap, and Eric is certainly a great resource.

Oh man y'all have done it now, txmxer I forgot to tell ya she enjoys vital too! It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who you were... so she said its on, and wanted to know how embarrassed your going to be when she shreds you (with her too short bike) on your own track? Woohoo

Alright how about I change the original question slightly, what do guys do to this bike to make it easier to ride supermoto? Ive seen on other forums where people take these little dirt scooters and make them into serious supermoto bikes. Surely they open up the cockpit somehow? If you cant tell, she wants to make this bike work. By the way thanks for everyone's help we appreciate it...

ps. Ill share some pics when the above mentioned shredding happens to txmxer

It's not that special. I've been getting roosted by 60's and 80's for so long I don't even notice it...

If you are set on having her ride the 150, the first thing you'll need to do is install a set of Renthal CRF150R Adult bars and a Guts Racing tall seat foam and cover.
5/28/2009 7:40am
yeah first thing i thought of, taller seat foam, taller bars, maybe go with over sized bars and use the adapters they offer alot of lift, i did it to my 125, im 6'2 and it helped alot, as for the footpegs i dunno what to tell you
5/28/2009 9:26pm
Well, keeping the 150R, as others have said, go with taller seat and bars. but...

If she has that kind of height and doesn't like the hit of a 125 two stroke, check in to either a 250F or one of the 200 two strokes. I am just under 5'5" (and yes, female), and I ride an un-lowered KX250F.

Good luck in getting her back up and riding. It's nice to have someone to ride with living in the same house.

Just get her a clean used 230F. My wifey has one, and its great. Set the sag up a bit less, and shes laughing.
