Technically ..... most of the Pro SXers are road cyclists.

I am old and fat and I am a road cyclist Smile

Most moto guys are soooo far off a real road cyclist it isn’t even funny. Real cyclists put in 20-30 hours a week on the bike, as much as 500 miles a week. Moto guys don’t need to come close to that, nor would it allow them to be fresh and perform on saturdays.

The only guys I’ve ridden with that even come remotely close are Seth Rarick and Broc Tickle, but Broc can’t put in the hours on the bicycle to be even remotely competitive locally.

The Vegan Cyclist is a really cool dude that puts out great content. Certainly helps you understand quirky things in cycling and accelerate your learning curve if you’re newer to the game.

why would they want to put in that kind of time though. They arent trying to be professional bicyclists. They're doing it for exercise.

I literally said in my post why they don't put in the time. Maybe you missed it.

Overall training time aside, moto guys get dropped like a bad habit on any decent climb. Badly.

It was humbling coming from moto with cycling as cross training, to solely MTB/Cycling. I couldn't believe how far off I was, and I was one of the stronger cyclists in the moto industry.

VC also rides a little moto. I saw a video where he’s racing some local night race in the C class. Waxes them too! I was kinda impressed because even though it’s a novice class, he’s pretty much a roadie and well, roadies aren’t exactly known for their bike handling skills... if you do a gravel race you can usually tell who they are... all engine but then comes that 90 degree turn and they nearly stop 😂

I am sure this is the case for roadies or on a national level, but man here in charlotte justin brayton and some other MX guys (JGR crew) have ran some local mtb races, and they usually destroy the "pro" class. One race at north meck I think justin brayton beat everyone by quite a bit.

EDIT: Actually looks like JB19 wants to be a CAT 1 mtb champ after he retires

Well define "pro"? I've met many guys, both in moto and cycling, that calls themselves pro just because they raced A class or Cat1 and got a couple of envelopes with 50 bucks in them, are they really pro though? And what kind of race are talking here? Enduro? Downhill? XC? Too many unknowns. This is not to shit on Justin Brayton, he's a fit dude, and rides bikes quite a bit by most moto guy standards, but I stand by what Kyle said... Most moto pros are average at best in the cycling world. And for a reason... cycling is just a cross training tool for them, it's not their focus.
I mean, look, there are some guys that cross fit that are absolutely shredded and "fit" by most people standards, but put them on a bike against a somewhat fit average cyclist and they get worked.
On a road bike, I would put my money on that C rider Vegan Cyclist against any moto pro, any day, and he's not even a pro cyclist.

I agree, I used to know this kid that lived with his cycling trainer since he was 16 and all of that, it is just as serious as moto and no doubt the top guys are in their own league. On a local level though, the moto guys seem to do pretty well in the expert class around the XC type stuff here in charlotte. I am sure if they went to "mtb lorettas" they would get beat down. https://racesonline.com/images/site_images/2017OverallSeriesResults.pdf

Dude I was literally parked right next to you and didn't even know it, that's my gold sprinter at the end!Laughing I was also the guy on the yz250 directly in front of you around the first corner in 250C, that was a wild race but insanely fun!

Great video to, that's the best one I've seen so far that actually shows more of how the day plays out and how long/tough it is. It's funny how the emotions fluctuate throughout the day, after track walk I was super excited they left the track pretty much the same as the night before, but I was also super nervous about the triple. Then, after practice it was just so much fun, I wish we could ride this stuff all the time and really get the hang of it.
