This Coronavirus thing has the potential to impact everything in the world, including Motocross and Supercross dominance. If the riders are unable to compete for months (years?) we might see a changing of the guard to some extent. A prolonged break could be great for some riders who need to heal from chronic injury or just get more seat time, and it could be bad for some riders who are on a roll and killing it with confidence. What are some of the crazy potential outcomes? Here are some fictitious scenarios:
-Eli Tomac, Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb return to Supercross in January of 2021 to find that they are all racing for 2nd place. Adam Cianciarulo has worked on his speed and racecraft and starts the season out with 7 dominating, soul-crushing wins in a row. He is not only an average of 2 seconds per lap faster at all times, but his fitness is on point, as are his starts. Suddenly, he has all the momentum and is in everyone's head.
-Jeffrey Herlings practices at a private home SX track from now until Christmas. He comes to America to race the first few Supercrosses and wins at Phoenix after a podium at A1. He podiums a few more times and realizes he has a shot at the title, so KTM sends Marvin Musquin to the GPs in his place.
-The 2020 Outdoor Nationals are cancelled, so 2021 is the first time we see anyone in outdoor motocross for nearly two years. Jason Anderson comes into the fray with unbelievable fitness and wears Tomac down at the end of every moto, passing him for the win.
Let's hear some more crazy ideas....
