Great job. Nice to have a quick chat with you yesterday. I think most of us all believe the sport is in good hands now.

Since you roam this board occasionally I figured we all could give you some positive feedback.

Schedule - I think it ran a bit too long. Not sure but I think the men's 2nd motos didn't even start until after 5 pm? But even if you were to have hit your schedule perfect I'm wondering if everything couldn't be bumped earlier or tightened up. Maybe start the men's motos by noon instead of 1 pm.

- WMA Not sure how many laps they did but could easily lose a lap or more each moto to save on time. They looked pretty beat on the final lap. Would probably allow them to charge harder and look better as well. The top few riders are going good but right now they just don't have a full gate of fast riders.

- Announcers, podium awards, etc Seems like this chewed up a lot of time. ( Give an announcer a mic and some of them act like they're getting paid by the word. lol! ) I know sponsors all want their place in the spotlight but all that time spent on the podium interviews and stuff seemed to kill the momentum of the event? Must be some way to shorten/ tighten things up and keep the sponsors happy.

- Qualifying. Would love to see a return to qualifying races from the timed qualifying stuff. Not sure if that would take up more time or less but definitely more interesting to watch.

- The small side number thing. Well, if you're on here at all you can see it was very unpopular with the fans. Really, really frustrating to not immediately know who is who as they go by. I must have missed this when it was first proposed and I will assume it was a sponsorship issue but it doesn't seem to be working. You can now make out the unsponsored back markers still running normal numbers better than the top sponsored guys ... especially after a first lap thru the mud obliterates the front number plates. By the number of times that even the booth announcers had the rider order wrong, I have to assume they were impacted by this as well.

BTW - did you get my plans for a handle bar mounted laser device that would throw up a 3-D hologram above each rider rotating thru their sponsors?

- Misc stuff. Sound systems. I will assume you are trying to upgrade the sound systems at tracks or at least have them all meet a uniform standard. With the small numbers making it tougher to identify riders as they go by, the fans rely even more on the announcers to inform them. Because the thumpers are so loud I'm not sure what you can do here. Maybe someone else has a soluton. Not sure if some sort of visual aid would work in bright sunlight but knowing who is where on the track really adds to the fan experience.

- Again on the sound. In between motos, occasionally it's nice not to be blasted by music thru a distorted outdoor PA system. I realize the announcers need breaks and maybe "dead air" is considered a bad thing so I guess all you can do is keep an eye ( or ear ) on the sound level.

- The two Stroke event. A lot of us were really interested in this and I realize it was originally planned to go on earlier. But the format seems questionable. I guess we should have seen it from the rider list but is this a race or an exhibition? My vote would be for some sense of a full gate of riders that all belong in the same class ... whatever that class is to be. Maybe a top amateur gate? I think if this is done well, it will certainly aid your cause to ever go with two-strokes getting back into the Pro class at some future point.

- The TV coverage. I only have viewed it once but my first impression ... was did they drop down to a lesser camera class? The image quality did not seem to be there right from the first shot. Not sure if this was a local broadcast issue or what so I won't go further on it only to add that ... if the Canucks can do such a great job on their outdoor series I'm confident we can match or surpass them. Oh, don't want to leave out that J-Wag and DB are a great pick.

Hey, sorry to act like some back seat producer and I realize most of us have no idea what constraints you have to deal with regarding television, sponsors, riders, etc ... and that it is only the first round, both for the series and for the new management team. Just wanted to give some fan feedback to someone we all think listens. I hope others add some positive stuff as well.

Just be happy that this is a step in the right direction. the net was really good for me. no problems at all. if anything seeing the 1st moto on tv was poor coverage after seeing it live on the net. but at least the sport is still going strong. how many people were at the race? 30,000 or more ?

The micro number plate thing is crazy. You can't make out the "sponsor" logos or the numbers.

Other than that the at home experience is a decent improvement. I will have to wait until I attend an event mid summer to determine how much the live fan experience has improved.

I would have liked to have seen both moto's on TV even though the first was shown on the net. Some fans aren't on the net to watch it there. I'm also not a big fan of the new track design.

If the race day would have been as tedious as your post I would of rather ate a bullet. The 2nd big boy race was scheduled to start at 5pm. Positive feedback...? you pretty much trashed every part of the day or had a better way. A mind is a terrible thing to waste but in your case I'll make an exception. Do everyone a favor and fucking streamline your post, then throw your fucking computer in the trash.

Drop the ladies. Horrible decision - possibly one of the worst decisions, outside of the old class names, ever made. Makes a very very long day even longer, racing is boring and they look slow.

Besides all that, starting the "show" out with the women's class just makes no sense and takes away from the real "show." I can't imagine showing up to an NBA game only to have to sit through a 15 minute WNBA game before seeing the real stars. And then having to watch them play another 15 minutes at half time, no way, wouldn’t work. TV, the players and fans wouldn't go for it.

It seems like the goal is to make the Outdoor National's more television and spectator friendly. How on earth do you do this by lengthening the program to a point where it's longer than every other sport out there, even longer than the Coca Cola 600. Then throw in a hot, dusty remote venue with no "modern" viewing or restroom facilities...

Also, with this format, I think you will lose fans listening online. I can barley set aside 3 or 4 hours on a Saturday, let alone 5 or 6 hours - and I'm as hard core moto as they come.

Seriously, where is the value add.

If my post was so tedious ... then you're a fool for reading it. Seems like a fair amount here agreed with most points.

I will add that after watching the entire race that the camera angles and commentary were excellent. The image quality issue appeared to come from my cable provider as there were several times when the image froze momentarily and started to digitize / pixilate.

I actually thought race posted a very good post.

On DC's post: everyone wants one day formats

I don't know who everyone is, because I know in my area, there are a bunch that are not going because it is a one day format, myself included.

Web was perfect for me. I had no issues. You may want to adjust the settings on the player. It is defaulted at "auto". I chose my own at the highest quality and it was HD like on my laptop. If you are buffering a lot, then set the setting to a lower quality and see if that helps.

I loved all aspects of the webcast/TV and the post race shows that were put up on Alli.

Gang, I appreciate all of this. And when I said "everyone" on the one-day format, I meant the vast majority of riders and teams and industry personnel. They also want it on live TV and same-day coverage and the only way to do that was to move it to Saturday.

The last few years, Saturdays at most nationals was a ghost town, based in large part on the fact that we had gotten rid of qualifying races for individual lap times, and also because some top riders were passing on even going out to practice (Stewart).

Right now, there's a lot of content, but we're working on finding the right package for the most people -- athletes and fans, teams and sponsors, industry and television -- and we will get it right.

For now, we are one race into the job.

I would move the women to amateur day and have either a legends race or a serious 2 stroke class. I like the one day format and watching the second moto in HD on speed was good also. I think there have been some very positive changes made this year and it will only get better.

Outstanding job! Very aggressive time line packing lots of events in. As you said. 1 race in and will only get better.
Good talking to you on Thurs evening and as I said then, our sport is in good hands.
See you at High Point!

The schedule is too crowded, so moving the girls to amateur day would make a lot of sense.

Having both motos available on the net after the race (like www.freecaster.tv does for the GPs) would also be great.

My webstream was perfect at the highest setting all the way over here in Australia. Pumped about that. I think for you USA residents it would have to be your PCs processor speed of graphics card if its not your service provider making it buffer?

If the race day would have been as tedious as your post I would of rather ate a bullet. The 2nd big boy race was scheduled to start at 5pm. Positive feedback...? you pretty much trashed every part of the day or had a better way. A mind is a terrible thing to waste but in your case I'll make an exception. Do everyone a favor and fucking streamline your post, then throw your fucking computer in the trash.

I will add that after watching the entire race that the camera angles and commentary were excellent. The image quality issue appeared to come from my cable provider as there were several times when the image froze momentarily and started to digitize / pixilate.

damn clutchy, it was a well thought out, well written post. Must everyone kow-tow to your adult onset ADD?

Move the accessories to Sunday and make Saturdays about nothing BUT 4 motos of the best in the country. Its streamlines the program without cutting the racing.
The casual fan/majority are there to see one thing. The elites out on the track.
There is no sense in trying to cram that much into one day when the people you are appealing to sell out atlanta stadium for a two hour night show.

Sundays Headliners should be Long Pro Am Points Motos, WMA, and amatuer races mixed in with it. The novelty stuff appeals more to the crowd that's going to be around on Sunday anyway.

Not all the Nat's are having amateur days on Sunday. Some are on Friday, some are on Thurs-Friday,like this week at Hangtown. Southwick doesn't seem to be having amateur racing, so where would that put the WMA for that round?

Besides.. nothing will change this year. Maybe for next year though, but IMO, there will be more than a few that will be turned on to following the WMA with this year long exposure.

I still think the point in adding in the WMA was to get them exposure (try and build a new fan base, get chicks involved in the sport, etc.) and to fill the gaps in the program that have been around all these years.

If anything, they could start the program earlier, however, the TV schedule is set.

Kow-Tow...? help me out here. If i'm going to get slammed i just want to understand...?

I just want to know what part of the day/program, did He think was good..lmao, I mean seriously,

first... the program was to long (even though it was almost perfect on schedule)

Answer.. show up for just the motos or go to a SX. Some people show up 2 or 3 days early and chill. The program had very few mistakes.

second..The WMA deserves there time on the track...!! and were fun to watch Ashley hauls ass.. I mean so are we saying that women are second class..? I have daughters so the "cut the womens laps" kinda made me sad how inconsiderate that was.

third.. Cracked on the announcers and the 10 to 15 minutes on the podium.. I'm not really a fan of having podiums for each moto. Personally I think overall podiums would be good. But do we want sponsorship dollars coming in or not..?

Forth.. I say timed practice is better for getting the fastest riders to the moto's, plus adding qualifiers would make the program even longer, I thought the day was already to long...? what are they going to do cut out practice..lmao. So that wasnt good enough either.

Fifth..I agree with the small numbers thing, they suck and will go away i'm sure.

Sixth.. Personally I don't go to outdoor nationals or fast food drive thru's for the sound system. And I'm emailing Major League baseball to stop the music between every inning.

Seventh.. I'm sure the 2 stroke race was left off the schedule for a reason, so if they needed too they could move it around in the schedule. And I think most would much rather see a legends/ moto celebrities race anyways. I can see a bunch of unknown 2 strokes at Perris and starwest every week. except doc/phil/sun.

So basically what He said was.. Giving some positive feedback..? The day was too long, the races should be at different times, The women dont deserve they're laps so cut them, The announcers are bad, the podiums are too long, timed practice wasnt good, The small numbers do suck but has nothing to do with the actual race, talk too the ama. The sound system sucked, ok so call all the track owners. the music between motos was too loud, and they should have a different format for 2 strokes.. So I have a thought, maybe outdoor motocross isnt your thing. Maybe you should email the PGA and have them go to shotgun starts because the fucking day is too long for you.

So aside from one little great job at the top heres a long list of all the things that i think sucked or could be better with your program. Well apparently there's alot of people that have no clue, what kind of HERCULEAN effort it takes to come up with the entire program and pull it off

Here's well thought out.

DC and company did an amazing job of pulling off they're first national. I'm sure there's little things that you'll want to improve after each event, but overall you did an amazing job. The sport is blessed to have someone as passionate as DC is at its helm. Thanks for caring so much for the sport that we all love.... Have a blessed year and many years to come.

Thanks, one thing about the girls: They need to be run with the men (same day) because all of the TV cameras around the track -- they have their own race coverage on Versus, and it begins airing in a couple of weeks. We will tighten a lot of things up from here on out. The GH track is the longest on the circuit, and that helped add to the length of the day. Also, delays in practice for track maintenance and also the red-flagged start hurt us....

But give the girls a chance; they are trying hard and they will deliver some great racing.

kow·tow (ko̵u′to̵u′)

noun
the act of kneeling and touching the ground with the forehead to show great deference, submissive respect, homage, etc., as formerly in China

Etymology: Chin k'o-t'ou, lit., bump head

intransitive verb

1. to perform a kowtow
2. to show servile respect (to)

And what you described as feedback is really suger-coating it. I'm sure DC appreciates all opinions if they're respectfully presented. He's gonna do what he thinks is right anyway.

If nothing else, you learned a new phrase today. May come up on the quiz tomorrow- you never know. LOL
