Yeah if anything this coronavirus hype has been pretty educational for the masses. Most people don't have a damn clue on how viruses are spread which is baffling. But now people should have an idea on how to stay sanitary in the future years at least.

168 people died today in Italy. That`s 397 in a last three days.

I was on a video conference with a company based in Northern Italy yesterday. All had masks on. Sobering.

I don’t blame riders at all for taking extra precautions. Even the average flu is less than fun.

I think the first cases in Italy started popping up about 2 weeks before they did here in the states. Might be worth looking into how things are looking over there right now to get an idea of what it could look like over here in a couple weeks.

FELD must be losing their shit right now with all of these massive events being postponed/cancelled.

Does your doctor take his tin foil hat off when he examines you?
Honestly, if your doctor believes this virus is a conspiracy, see another doctor.
It may be blown out of proportion, but does he or she not realize this is being blown up the world over?
Including in countries that couldn’t give a shit about the American election.

He/she has also decided to not mention a bunch of epidemics that were not in election years.....see another doctor, this one is a crackpot

No change here in San Diego....people still going about their lives, social gatherings, restaurants packed, concerts etc. I received a package from China today....and oh my God....I opened it up and handled it.

Meanwhile as stated in another thread... A child dies every three seconds globally due to food deprivation – 10,000 children every day....

Why isn't the world freaking out about food starvation deaths? I know why....

Be surprised if this is an actual md/do office. There’s some other “doctors” this seems more in line with.

Also worth noting
SARS outbreak was 2002
Avian flu had its major outbreak in 2005
Swine flu was 2009
MERs was 2013
And Zika started out breaking in 2015

I agree with Motokawi, I don’t believe that is actually in a doctors clinic/ hospital, BUT if it is, they are fucking crap doctors.

Don’t believe everything you read on Facebook guys

I'm taking the family to Disneyland shortly. Pumped on that. We've got tickets to the theater this Thursday. Good friend of mine just took his family (including an infant) to Hawaii, and my mother-in-law flew to the UK to do a couple week trip on Saturday. My wife has a conference in Atlanta after we get back from Disney and then we will probably find another place to go due to the cheap flights. I've mentioned previously my being over a facility that houses medically fragile individuals. The kind most at risk from this. We had a training on how best to deal with this by highly qualified medical professionals. Basically wash you hands and disinfect frequently touched surfaces. For them, avoid large gatherings. Know the signs, know when and how to quarantine and the proper way to get care without risking transmitting it to others. That's it. I know some people seethe when they read that kind of thing but your panic is your own. You hold on to that for whatever reason you seem to need to. The rest of us will keep living life.

So avoiding large gatherings (crowds) is part of the way to avoid this, and you work with medically fragile people, so your solution is to go to places with crowds? Makes sense.....

If I’m reading this right you work directly with the at-risk population. And still plan on doing all the things that put you at the highest risk of contracting it?

The avoiding crowds part is for the medically fragile individuals themselves. They made a pretty clear distinction that as things stand right now there is no recommendation for staff to change their normal routine or plans. Just a focus on correct hand washing, disinfecting surfaces prone to high amount of contact, what symptoms to watch for in staff and in individuals receiving care, and how to respond if we believe someone may be infected. As we learn more obviously recommendations are subject to change. As of this weeks meeting the directions follow the recommendations of the CDC nearly to a T.

I find that hard to believe. It’s takes up to 14 days at time to show symptoms and if I worked with aids patients or in a nursing home I’d definitely avoid flying and large crowds for a bit. Just to not hurt the people I’m supposed to be helping.

Yep....I have a friend who's sister works at Scripps Hospital here in San Diego. She says it's all being overblown...but definitely do the hand washing/hygiene... just like any other flu season.

What we should really be worried about are all the sheeple losing their sh*t over this causing a systematic breakdown of normal life.

People can continue to cower in front of their Kool-Aid "news" dispensers... Me, I just got home from a very busy gym.

It's okay if you don't believe me. I've seen how passionate people are about this and it is what it is. People will throw out whatever to try and make a point on the internet. What I see and what I deal with is going to be different than your experience and yours will be different from the next guy. I'm on team humanity here and am in no way saying people should not take precautions or be concerned. I myself do draw the line at panic. For example, we have a couple who, if memory serves me, were quarantined in a cruise ship and recently returned to Utah. They are under official quarantine and health officials have assured the public that they are no risk. Yet they are receiving death threats from people not wanting them to return home because they're convinced they'll kill us all. The poor husband went so far as to release a Facebook video to show people the measures they take even at home to avoid contact with even each other. That's panic. Those people did nothing wrong. That's my issue in all this. Unnecessary panic.

I’ve never once said I support the panic. My point is if I worked with immunocompromised I’d probably avoid large crowds and flying, unless necessary, until this blows over. Not that I’d hid in my bunker and steal all the Costco TP. Just add a little more caution to my life. Nothing crazy. And I do agree with your whole last half

COVID-19: Approximately 97,870 cases worldwide; 209 cases in the U.S. as of Mar. 5, 2020.
Flu: Estimated 1 billion cases worldwide; 9.3 million to 45 million cases in the U.S. per year.

COVID-19: Approximately 3,347 deaths reported worldwide; 11 deaths in the U.S., as of Mar. 5, 2020.
Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.
Source: John Hopkins Medicine

COVID-19: 3.41% death rate globally, 3.79% in the US (above the global average!)
Flu: 0.0291% to 0.0646 death rate

Based on that data, and some quick math, coronavirus is between 5,178% to 11,618% times more deadly that influenza. It is a new virus we've never seen, and spreads easily. The world's heath organizations, and the best minds on the planet are concerned, but hey, you think it's a big hoax. Let's all rub some essential oil on it and pray it away!

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” - Asimov

I wasn’t too sure what to think of this virus but I received an email today from my customer (very large Fortune 500 company) and they are asking me for a disaster preparedness plan for my company...I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this. With that said if this is trickling down to a small company like mine then this shit is getting real.

I think things might get pretty ugly soon, meaning schools closed and people working from home in isolation
My company policy is now work from home, no travels, no meetings, this is getting real. I get the feeling that we’re not getting the whole story here

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that authorities believed 60-70% of the population would eventually get infected by the novel coronavirus.
