My favorite part about this scare is people just learning about proper hygiene.

Even without flu/this years scare tactic season.....it's shocking to me how many scumbags will walk out of a bathroom without washing their hands....

Quit spouting nonsense on something you know so little about. The corona virus family is much more respiratory that the flu. Increasing the chances of permanent respiratory issues. Not all viruses are the same.

"Quick question - what is the mortality rate of coronavirus among healthy adults in the USA?

Bonus round - what is the mortality rate of coronavirus among healthy children in the USA?"

What no answers?

Are we back to the 'reading is hard' thing?

Or just the answer wouldn't fit the narrative?
With the obesity rates, hypertension, and other factors in the US we are actually not that healthy. I’m sure less than half of this board fit in the “healthy” category. Also, just because you take medication which bring you within normal levels of whatever you need, you still have that disease. So while children and healthy individuals may be fine, there is still a HIGH percentage of the population that won’t be. Mortality rate of healthy individuals is almost useless. A healthy individual can contract almost anything and will have a decent chance of surviving.

Pretty sure saying the Coronavirus CAN cause permanent lung damage would be more accurate than saying the Coronavirus causes permanent lung damage.

One way says percent of cases with permanent lung damage is unknown.

The other says 100% of cases result in permanent lung damage.

I'm still reading that most people who do get the Coronavirus will make a complete recovery.

Define 'HIGH' as you have used it here.

Mortality rate of healthy individuals would amount to data. Data that, if shared, could tell part of the story.

As in, how does Coronavirus compare to other things that kill parts of the population.

And Data, if not shared, is suspicious simply for being not shared. As in, what is being hidden from the public?

The media has done an excellent job of selling mass hysteria and the idea that Coronavirus is likely to effect the health of all of us.

If there are segments of society, who are less likely to be effected by it, wouldn't that be information that could be shared as well?

And hey, I have manipulated data myself, so I understand that it is much easier if you start with the conclusion and then throw out any data that doesn't support that conclusion.

That’s just needless semantics on how it was written. If a healthy person has even a chance of getting permanent damage from this virus all precautions to avoid it should be followed.

Do you not know how to use google? All this information is easily googled. Since I’ll assume you’re unable to, I’ve done it for you. If you have any scientific literacy you should be able to get your answers from this table.

Oooh, being underestimated - one of my all time favorites!

I have pulled that off many times and in the past it has usually meant I've got them right where I want them! As I recall, it even can work very well while racing a dirt bike - but it has been a while for that.

motokawi818, it is possible that you are the smartest person I have ever encountered. I'm always open to the idea.

But, did you not notice that I asked questions about Coronavirus in the USA.

So you give data from China! I'm sure you figured nobody would know the difference.

I'm surprised you didn't give data about the Coronavirus in Iran - I understand results are even worse there.

I asked about results in the USA because I (& most here) know little about China. Data from China is sure to have some relevancy, but without a good understanding of the important variables between China & the USA, it would be difficult to determine what parts of the Chinese data matter and what parts don't.

Semantics certainly matter when one thing says 'it will' and another says 'it can - but in most case won't'.

I was just trying to get somebody to say that zero 'healthy' adults in the USA have died from the Coronavirus!

And the fact that nobody would say that, speaks volumes about the manipulation of data & information!

I guess you're winning the making me google formation for you fight. The difference between me and you is that I don't think I'm smarter than the experts. Another reason your "healthy" US stat you want so badly is hard to find, is because of the early stages this pandemic is in. With so few cases many "US only" statistics will have limited significance. To show correlation or causation you need a large enough set of data.

Perfect link - & thanks for that.

Although I think you could search the internet from one end to the other & never find an instance where I tried to tell anybody how smart I am.

It is possible that I am the dumbest person that you have ever encountered. I'm always open to the idea.

But, in a debate, I also don't resort to insults or making statements that I can't back up with data. I mostly just ask questions that I think need to be answered.

Your statement "With so few cases many "US only" statistics will have limited significance. To show correlation or causation you need a large enough set of data." is also excellent.

Especially the last sentence. It seems to me that the 'set of data' isn't changing all that much from day to day.

And again, many really need those numbers of infections & deaths to increase, so they can be right! No big deal, only a matter of life & death.

As I mentioned, I'm a professional when it comes to data manipulation. And that is not something I ever intended to do. But when the boss says, 'that data doesn't fit - makes us look bad' and 'here is the conclusion, make the data fit', you do it right? I wasn't really ready to leave that job.

The data I manipulated was of relatively low importance.

How much 'that data doesn't fit - makes us look bad' and 'here is the conclusion, make the data fit' happens today on important stuff?

Yes, I'm suspicious of practically all data I see. Especially if the data looks too good or there are obvious things left out.

Which just leads me to ask inconvenient questions.

I was just going off of the you saying it's possible I'm the smartest person you've ever encountered. I know I'm paying too much attention to this board, but I love dirtbikes and am in the healthcare field. It's just nagging me to not participate in something I actually have knowledge on. Yes stats are easily manipulated, which is why its important to have statistically significant stats and at this time the US either doesn't or is just starting too. That means relying on Italy, Germany, and even what China has released because their cases are so much higher. We also have SARS, which is from the same family so we can predict some of what this virus will do from that.

. You spouted out some CRAP about the corona virus causing permanent lung damage. It does not cause permanent lung damage, it MAY cause lung damage, just like many other respiratory infections.
Shouldn’t you get off of Vital MX and go stock up your moms basement with toilet paper, mask, sanitizer and bottled water? It’s freaks like you that cause mass hysteria

Me? Re-read what I wrote slowly. I said increases the chances of permanent respiratory issues compared to the flu. Are you projecting your fears on this site? I understand its scary to be in the at-risk population, but if you practice correct hand-washing, avoid large crowds, and avoid flying you should make it through. Like some have said, many of these virus's are seasonal so if you can make it until the end of spring you should be OK.

The Coronavirus is another example of why it sucks so much that there is no place to go the get the "News". The main stream media is the little boy who cried wolf. Why would we believe them? They have lied, distorted the truth and simply not reported on things that don't further their agenda to the point that, if they were to tell the complete truth about anything - well how can any still see them as a credible source?

And it's an election year - which means the level of deception only goes up!

I'm afraid truth about the Coronavirus will fall into the 'only time will tell' category.

I thought you stated your views well, but I wouldn't bothering arguing any longer since nothing fruitful will come from it at this point. Those who think it's been over-hyped will continue to think that. Since so little is known about the corona virus, I think we should error on the side of caution and do everything in our power to prevent spreading this virus to others or getting it ourselves. I hope the naysayers are right and this does not turn into something bigger but until I see that trend, I'll trust what the medical professionals tell me.

Yeah I had this going in like 3 different threads. Overkill and consumed my day too much. Oh well at least if people wade through this mess there’ll be some accurate information. Definitely no use arguing anymore.

On a more positive note, I did read that drinkers of hard liquor are less likely to get the Coronavirus! The source seemed as credible as any other.

I'm not much of a drinker - may have to up my game.

Better safe than sorry, would also apply here right?

Let's put it this way... My obit when I die....

“There will be no viewing since his wife refuses to honor his request to have him standing in the corner of the room with a glass of Makers Mark in his hand so that he would appear natural to visitors.”
