Like someone said start off in the rv. That would be cheap try a new town every two weeks. And I’d you’re getting a 43’ toy hauler you’re going to have a bad ass rig that’s over 110k itself. I just bought a 38 or 39footer. Grand design momentum 349m I’m living out of with the dog right now.

That's the plan, but long before I even head south I want to have an idea of a few places that I want to shop for a place to live.

Nice choice. I've been looking at the Momentum 381M or the now discontinued 354M, or the 351 Raptor. Triple axle on the 381 is nice as the trailer can handle the weight better than a dual axle.

I have bought 2 houses and built one, so I have this to offer, you can get more property(1.5-3 acres), a decent size home 2200-2500 sqf, a detached garage and most importantly, no HOA, usually Open Rural, for the same money has a small home, two car garage on .20 acres.
Financing can be a bitch, if your ducks aren't in a row since it is a construction to perm loan but really not that difficult.

Orlando area and north is much more enjoyable; more forest, more tracks, more affordable real estate (if there is such a thing in Florida now). South Florida has become a cesspool of high priced 55+ communities. Land that once was a central point for people farming and raising cattle/horses is being rezoned at blinding speed to accommodate more of these. I am counting down the days to move out of South Florida and back to St Johns or Leon county.

If South Florida is a destination, just do your due diligence in seeing what any local HOA may or may not require. Dozens of storage facilities are being built in Palm Bech Co, mainly due to increased demand of people needing space to park boats, RVs, etc. due to more HOA saturated areas. A lot of this certainly depends on your needs for your family (schools, employment, salary) vs. your personal desires (bustling city life or more peace).

Where in S FL do you reside?

I did some searching last night and found some reputable RV storage facilities in Palm Beach & Broward county offering the right amenities that I'd need.

I know the FLL area pretty well, specifically Boca Raton & nearby areas as I have an extended family member that lives down there and visited several times with the family when I was a kid. Boca has everything I'm looking for with day-to-day stuff like Whole Foods, Lifetime Fitness, etc., which are a top priority so I can run my business efficiently. Amazing beaches as well. I don't mind being the city as long as I have a house I like (recently updated/renovated & screened in pool) and a good & secure place to park the rig between race weekends.

While it's not that close to a lot of tracks, that area is a lot warmer through the winter. So it's a bit of a toss up. I don't mind a longer drive home on Sunday after racing. My business is 100% digital so I also can afford to take my time going home from a track up north back down to the SE coast.

I will probably fly down to FLL in early summer, and fly up to Tampa on the way back to MN. Will rent an air bnb that's similar to the type of house I want to live in and scope things out and see how I like both areas. Then make the decision in the fall to make the trek with the rig.

I’ll tell you they say the momentum’s are hands down better than the raptors. The raptors are a little more expensive because of the name brand. I’ve had a handful of issues right off the bat with this one. The dealership has been horrible but through me calling momentum they took care of everything for me. Even though I bought a $7,000 3rd party warranty through the dealer....

One part I broke on my own I called the dealer to buy they wanted $65.... talked to LCI they gave me the part for free even though I told them I broke it and they told me replacements are only $39.99....

Anyways with luck I’ll be down in 2 years. More than likely leaving my rv at a permanent site and buying a house elsewhere for the warmer months.

Also I was looking at the 381 and a bunch of campgrounds around here don’t have room for them if you want to drop the back door into the patio. And I’ve found tri axles to be nothing but a pain in the ass and another set of tires to replace. With the 381 If you’re looking to haul bikes and a sxs or something I’d go with the tri axles though....

I am looking to move but only because I want 20 acres with a track and pond again. I live in one of the best neighborhoods in my area, all 1 to 5 acre estate properties very close to the beach. A house doesn't last a week for sale here in my hood and my two already have a waiting list from neighbors family members wanting to move to Florida. I sold a few of my rental properties last year and gave one to my daughter and we just want to kick back and do everything and/or nothing on a farm basically. I love my neighborhood but it is too social honestly and we have outgrown it. Been here 16 years. I am looking for 10 to hopefully 20 acres on the Caloosahatchee River to build on and have some water to play in too. Helping our elderly family members with dementia seems to be taking most of our time lately too which has slowed the moving process quite a bit.

I have a house in Jupiter on the east coast. Palm beach county, it’s really nice but expensive. Very close to some great beach’s and 1 hr drive to FCP & Mesa park. 2 hrs to Orlando Mx. I know We could be closer to riding spots but I really like being close to the ocean. One thing that sucks about the East coast is, I have not found a good single track/ GNCC type riding spot. The west coast has Croom, which is awesome when it rains. You have to be far enough south to always have the warmth, I like it 80 & sunny all the time! I visited friends in Red Rocks beach last weekend, thought about looking at some houses, ,had to drive through Tampa......pretty heavy traffic jams...Told my wife, not buying a house on the west side of Tampa, I would have to deal with that traffic every time I went riding....I think north side of Tampa would be fine....

Just say no to HOA.

For $500K you can get a really nice place in a nicely developed area almost anywhere with at least half an acre. Like you said, get a nice concrete pad, alongside the house or behind the house and keep everything tidy.

It seems to be hit or miss, lots of quirks on the manufacturing process of RVs.

The 381's a beast for sure. I'm not too worried about campgrounds as the vast majority of the time it'll be going to whichever track I'm at and the storage facility. Tracks in MN have tons of open space for a rig of that size. Some of the Florida tracks don't look quite as spacious but still plenty of room.

I like the 15' garage, and especially the 18' garage in the 398 but the pin weight on the 398 is a little heavy for the 2017-2019 F350 SRW 6.7, and since there are no delete parts avail for the 2020 (Ford upped the payload capacity by 900 lbs!) that's the truck I'll be upgrading too, so 381 is the ideal rig in the foreseeable future. But plenty of garage space for the eventual golf cart I'll get and I want to buy a few bikes beyond the new 250f. Definitely want a 450 at some point and a 125. Plus being able to haul my buddies or my brother's bike if they were to stay in the rig on a race weekend. Plus when making the trek to/from FL & MN, having room in the garage to hang out plus park the bikes inside is nice.

Thanks! Anything in particular you like about the area? Looks like you're pretty close to Mesa MX & Florida Cycle Park

I found a great place to store a rig in the Boca/FLL area so I'm still leaning towards that.

Lots of land in that whole area.
I love being in the middle of nowhere but for the day-to-day being close to everything is important for me. Hope you find a great spot to build on!

Jupiter's a good location, close proximity to those tracks and after checking out their social media pages, the dirt looks heavenly. Also only about 1.75 hrs from Boca Raton.

I've never really been into woods riding but Croom looks like a cool spot.

Noted on the west side with traffic. If Tampa was the choice it'd be NW of Tampa - Keystone, Oldsmar, etc. areas. Trying to avoid sinkholes too lol

That's ideal for parking a rig. Will probably rent for a few years first though.
Found some good storage facilities so if I found I house I like and it's in an HOA it'd depend on their rules and how strict they are before I make the decision.

As awesome as it would be to load up the rig and just head down there, and live in a campground, I'd prefer flying down and scoping out a few places first then making a decision. Especially with the size of the rig I plan to buy barely fitting in campgrounds.

Will keep this thread updated once I make the move. Thanks everyone!

Take a look on the HWY 27 corridor between Clermont and Sebring. Plenty of communities that will not only allow RV's, but have shelters built off the houses to accommodate them. Central location with easy access to Orlando and Tampa or south towards Ft. Myers.

I live near st Pete in a town called tarpon springs. If your trying to be near a city, then st Pete or Tampa hands down. Barely any moto in south Florida, and Orlando sucks.

Best moto living would Probaly be living like a hour north of Tampa, cheap too. I’d be living up near brooksville, but I got to be next to the ocean (about that boat life)

I have used a place in Sanford 5 minutes from the airport for years now . It’s called Park 4 Dayz. A little north of Orlando with lots of places to ride close by. It has swipe access, video monitored, block fence around the entire area, black water dump and if you want parking spots with plug in. I’ve left my stuff there every winter now for8 years. Very happy

Where do you typically ride at? Tampamx? I'll be moving into St. Pete next month, just trying to figure out what other tracks are somewhat close.

I hate driving; so ride Tampa the most since i like the track and it’s an hour away. Dade city is also an hour for me, which I go to. Then Spyder is awesome, and 1.5 hours, bartow is also 1.5 hours and pretty good. Those are the main spots I go to.

-Croom is 3000 acre off road park 1 hour (some pros go there to train once in awhile like the baker factory boys)
-Family 74 mx 2 hours for me
- i don’t ever go to Orlando tracks cause traffic is horrific
-Going to gatorback next weekend for the qualifier 2.5 hours
-hard rock is 1.5 hours but people get robbed there
-I also go to a kid only track called extreme kids for my kids sometimes 1.5 hours

I'm right on the southern end of Wellington; a small community that encloses a separate community. Just to north of us, several new condos and zero-lot line communities are in the process of being finished, and the county recently purchased land to build another high school. Our address is technically "lake worth beach" though everything for us is in Wellington or just south to the west end on Boynton Beach Blvd.

I work in Delray/Parkland, so get to experience the excitement that is traffic on 441 or the turnpike on a weekly basis. A business associate lives in Boca off camino-real; lots of old coquina type homes, but that area in recent years has been a "hotspot" for people to buy and restore those older homes as he did. If I had to option to live in Boca, that would be the area, especially the further east and closer to downtown. I also had a condo for several years in Juno Beach, which I loved, but made the commute to work challenging and pricey. If I could do it again, I'd buy in Juno Beach in a heart beat between PGA Blvd and Military along US1, despite skyrocketing HOA fees.

Our winter has been nice; only 2 weeks of "cold" in the 60s, every other day since late November has been 75-82, though we did have a recent string of tons of rain. 2 years ago winter sucked; 88 every day and no relief, year before that seemed it rained every single day. Ya just never know...

Places to ride near Ft Pierce and Okeechobee still, though not as prevalent as central-north Florida. FTR just had 2 hare scrambles in the last 3 weeks in Indiantown, with a third coming up in Okeechobee, so if you want quality seat time, expect that schedule every year in late Jan-early March.

Been insanely busy working and finally have a chance to read through this thread

Probably a great area but way to far from the ocean and amenities I want day-to-day (Lifetime Fitness & Whole Foods - both of which Boca Raton & Tampa have)

I've been looking around there, Oldsmar, West Chase, East Lake, Keystone, Lake Fern, and down towards Town N Country area as well.
Haven't been there yet in person but looks like a nice area. Close proximity to the day to day stuff plus there's an RV storage facility on Racetrack Rd & near 580.

Really like what I can get for houses to rent in my price range.

Whereas for Boca, add another $1000+/mo for similar in Boca Raton...may move down there in a couple years but the houses I want are north of $5k/mo in Boca). Boca is closer to Florida Cycle Park & Mesa MX which has practice during the week but only about 40 minutes shorter of a drive. Otherwise Tampa area is way closer to all the other tracks.

Great looking facility! There's a similar style facility in Oldsmar that I'm considering.

Thanks for the info!

Big decision to make between the two areas.
