Okay guys I'm trying to finally cut the cord on my Cox Communication cable bill. Just keeps going up and up each month out of control $215 for internet landline and cable TV with a sports package that includes NFL Network and NBA TV either of those I can do without but I have it mostly for motorcycle racing (BEIN channel, CBS Sports, NBC Sports)

Recently bought an Amazon fire stick 4K (Thanks to Txdrt) so I could get on NBC Sports gold and watch Supercross Live.
I'm new to this streaming game as I'm old hahaha. 🤣

I plan to buy an HD antenna that Black Diesel Bomber recommends but I do not believe I would get Fox Sports to watch the Suns.

So what do you guys do for your local sports teams?
I want to make it as painless as possible.
I think I saw somewhere that people use crack streams or something like that not sure the name but how reliable is that really and won't it always be changing?
And how much you guys paying for Internet service so I could have Wi-Fi capabilities. I think I remember hearing that cable internet is more secure than if I was to get satellite internet is that true?

Also I will be returning the two DVRs so I will no longer have DVR capability do you guys have DVRs that you own?

Thanks

Do NOT get satellite internet. Mine isn’t dial-up but it comes in through a landline telephone cable (yeah I’m in the boonies) and it will support two TVs and two phones running at the same time without a hitch. I pay $65/mo for the internet plus Netflix/Amazon Prime. I’d have the Prime regardless so I consider it a freebie. I tried the free trial of YouTube TV and may subscribe in the future as they have a lot of the content that comes with satellite providers. All in, it costs me $85-$90/month and after two years I’ve yet to scratch the surface on Netflix.

DirecTV Family package, it's not advertised so you'll need to ask for it. I pay $29.99 a month and get MavTV plus NBCSN so I don't miss a SX, MX or MXdN race. For internet I use the hotspot on my Verizon iPhone.

Youtube tv here. Not all that happy with it but it's as good as it gets. They're going to nail your ass no matter what you do . They are raising internet rates like crazy because of cord cutters. There is a number they need from every subscriber and they are going to get it.

If you are OK with watching local stations then an HD antennae is the shit. Personally, I fucking hate regular TV. Sorry, it's crap. I watch youtube. Problem is you have to have an internet provider and they are getting wise to the cord cutters.

Not sure what I'm going to do but $125/month for shit streaming like youtube tv is not in my future.

The cable and satellite TV companies still have everyone by the balls. No doubt about that. The cable companies also own all the dang media/content companies. This was specifically not supposed to happen. So yes, they are raising your internet fees to make up for the lost cable subscribers. Talk about fucking over consumers. Maybe congress can look into it. Ahh nevermind.

You will always need internet service. So that fee isn’t going away. Period.

Then you decide what content you want to pay for. And layer in some free services as well.

If you want a cable TV like service then go with either YouTubeTv or HuluTv. This will be somewhat comparable to the basic cable you are use to. Includes local channels so if you go with this you don’t need any antenna for local channels.

Other content you may find valuable with a cost.
Netflix
Hulu
DisneyPlus
Amazon Prime
HBO
Showtime
Etc

Then layer in some purely free stuff. There is a ton out there but I’m just listing what I mainly use. It’s 100% free with commercials/ads occasionally.

PlutoTV
IMDb
TubiTv
Etc.

That’s about the gist of it. Anyone else can chime in...

I know Youtube TV has local sports but it's 45 or 50 bucks. SlingTV Blue package also has local sports I believe and it's $30. On the SVODs, Amazon has the largest library of movies new and old by far and it's included if you are a Prime member. Netflix, HBO, Showtime will have the original TV shows, but they run $12-$15 a piece.

The DirecTV Family package for $29.99 includes all local channels, it's really hard to beat if dirt bikes is your main focus. I used to have to switch packages before SX but now that they're both on the same channel I don't, which saves me lot's of money.

Not sure if these packages include every single game or not as I'm not much of a basketball fan.

G-man I am in AZ too. Hate Cox they are assholes..

Here is my setup which gives me everything I need with minimal fuss.

-150mb cox connection, bought my own modem for 44$ off amazon. Bill is 89$ a month flat.
-YouTube TV - yea it’s 50 a month but gives me sports channels, locals, NBcSN, etc. also allows other apps to use your subscription for shows. (ESPN, others)
- Apple TV , a fire stick is the same, just need something to stream to the TV.

This costs me less than 150$ a month and works for 4 TVs in my house. No fuss no cabling antennae etc. works for me.

Here’s a tip to deal with internet prices. First, own your modem, it makes the process easier if you have your own. Then call and cancel it. Don’t threaten, just cancel. Once you cancel, have your spouse/significant other call and get internet. Being a new customer, they’ll get the super cheap introductory rate, even lower with a 12mo agreement. After 6 months of you not having an account, you fall off their list of “existing customers” so in a year when the introductory rate expires under your spouse’s name/account, you will be considered a “new customer.” So have your spouse call and cancel, and since you now qualify for the cheap intro rate, you call and get internet in your name. My wife and I do this once a year, switching the account between my name and her’s, because the intro rate with 12/mo agreement is $40/mo less than the regular rate. $50 intro rate vs $90 regular rate. Basically cut the internet bill in half. That savings alone pays for a few streaming services.

I'm surprised they allow you to do this and they don't list active customers based on your home address. Take advantage of it while you can

G-man - I use Tivo with my HD antenna. Tivo has a DVR in it and works great. I bought the Tivo DVR box that does not require a subscription (you should still be able to find them). So other than the cost of my hardware, I'm getting all local HD channels for free with DVR services. I use streaming devices for everything else and pay $60 per month for my internet connection.

List your address as apartment 1. Then 2. Then 3. You’ll get introductory for years.

Hulu plus is starting to piss me off. Started 40 a month. Now it’s to 65. Internet went from 45 to 65. So my stuff is creeping back up to that 130 mark. I’m ok with about 85/90 for internet and streaming. Anything more is ridiculous. But now that people are dumping cable the internet is creeping up. And they’re introducing bandwidth data limits.

That was my thought too. They can’t block the address because that would stop a lot of renters from getting internet. I actually learned this trick from a Comcast employee. Cancelling takes a minute because they want to pass you up the chain to try and keep you, you just have to follow through. And if you lease your modem, you have to deal with returning it and waiting on the new one to arrive, however if you own your modem, as soon as the phone calls are done you’re back up and running again. Usually takes about an hour of dicking with them on the phone, 45min cancelling and about 15min to sign up. I figure 1hr out of the year for $480 in savings is worth it. lol
