Thoughts on Chiropractors?

Chiropractor here.

There are quite a few quacks out there, be especially weary of the ones who try to get you to pay a ton of money upfront . If a chiropractor wants you to come in multiple times a week for months on end they're more interested in getting $ than getting you better. At my office most treatment plans last around 6-8 visits over a few months and usually at that point the patient is able to manage on their own through home exercise and stretching.

I have had lower back issues for well over 20 years at this point. Basically L4-L5-S1 issues.
I had pretty much a standing monthly refill of Percs and Soma

Started going to a local chiro, started 2x a week, then went down to 1x a week.

Last April, I dumped the pain management doctor (pretty much just pill doctors) and feel great.
Still go to chiro 1x a week

Chiropractic isn't magic. It doesn't fix stuff in one visit. If not by injury, it usually takes months or years to get so out of whack it causes pain, it's not gonna snap back to normal due to a single adjustment. Your back and muscles get used to being that way, so even after you get adjusted, it'll try to go back to that. You have to think of chiropractic as re-training your back and muscles to go back where it should be.

You guys claiming chiropractic is bullshit, you're full of shit.

Works for me, works for many others. Got me to point I don't have to take a perc when get out of bed

So it’s agreed: good chiropractors are worth the money!

Yall should check out kelly starrett book becoming a supple leopard. I was going to a chiro weekly because my muscles were pulling my joints out of place constantly. I was turned on to it from my pt after my shoulder surgery and it's been the best investment I've made. I feel money now. and my fitness mobility and strength have improved a ton. Its saved me so much money on chiropractor appt. And has plenty of info on how to safely reset your joints and loosen stuck and tight tissues and get you moving better than ever.

First visit i had a few nerves i guess tingle here and there being in different/awkward positions.
Fast forward to about 8 visits and I am not getting the tingling or pinching feeling I was getting in the first visit.
Its not magic and most likely things can be fixed better by being in shape but Im definately feeling the gains.
I was even a bit apprehensive with a female chiro as i didnt think shed have the strength to maneuver me but shes doing good!

When I was 10 years old I dived into our pool and hit my head on the bottom. I was lucky I only ended up with a very dislocated neck and not in a wheelchair. I went and saw an oesteopath and after 2 visits my neck was kind of back to normal.

When I turned 12 I started racing moto and between that, bmx, footy and all the other dumb shit kids do I put a fair beating on my body but because I was in shape I never had a lot of problems.

When I quit racing at 18 I let myself go a bit, started drinking and partying and my back and neck issues started to surface. I would see chiro's occasionally when I would feel out and that would work until I did something else to hurt myself

When I was in my late teens/early 20's I was having back and neck issues. Went to a chiro who convinced me I needed to see him twice a week for 12 weeks and he would fix me. After 14 weeks I told him he was a waste of money.

After that I started getting in shape and looking after myself better. I'm now 35 and feel better and am in better shape than when I was 23. I still go to a chiro when I need to, the other day I was lifting one of my tool boxes, twisted and bent the wrong way and felt my back go out. After 3 weeks of trying to stretch it myself I went to my chiro and walked out feeling great.

The key for me is being in good shape and using a chiro to fix some injuries relating to what they do.

One thing I have noticed is that around 3-4 days after seeing a chiro I feel like shit. Everything aches, I just have to push through those couple of days and then I'm good. I swear that is how chiro's get people to keep coming back
An osteopath is way different than I chiro

If you have earned a doctorate in anything, you're a doctor. Not an MD, but a doctor in your field of study. I've never understood why MDs have such an issue with this. I've heard it from them as well.

Wouldn't be able to hardly walk if not for my Chiropractor. Crashed hard in 1995, broke T11/12 and tore a bunch of muscles in lower back. Couldn't stand for 3 weeks, walked with walker another 4 weeks. No insurance, so had to lay around till I healed up. Then went to 2 years to physical therapy, pelvis was twisted. Right side was up 1", therapist answer was a 1" chunk of rubber under my right heel to even me out. Could not stand to ride bike or a 4 wheeled couch for 9 years after accident.
1998 went to a Chiropractor, he said it would take a minimum of 3 years of visits to offset the 3 years my back had been out of shape. Seen CP 3 days a week for 5 years, my insurance at the time would only pay for 12 visits a year. The CP treated for free after what my insurance would pay for the year. But he got my back and pelvis straightened out after 5 years. At the 9 year point I was able to start riding again, and another year start racing MX again. Without my CP I wouldn't hardly be able to walk, let alone ride. Like already posted there are bad ones out there. My best advice is find one that only treats the area messed up, not one that stats at your neck and cracks you all the to your tail bone. Also I find the ones that use the activator to be better than the ones that just crack your back.
