So this might sound really dumb to some of you but what is the technique to hit a jump that’s a kicker? I’m not talking about a face where there’s a little kicker that you can avoid. I’m talking about the little small jumps. They always kick me weird and I want to know if there’s a technique to not get kicked weird.

It's hard to put in words but if I don't have away around the kicker, I just go straight at the kicker and just use the kicker as part of the jump. It's only a kicker if you let it kick. other wise it's just a bump in the jump.

Check out MX factory https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mx+factory This guy has a lot of good videos and I have used these when transitioning my riding style ( or lack of ) on my CR250. As long as you don't feel out control that would be key in my mind. Even RC said it's not always pretty !

Not sure if there is a video directly about would you are talking about but I bet you can find some that will help.
RedBull TV has a few good ones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80WTUG2o-CA

Cheers amigos!

Go buy a steering stabilizer and flex handlebars or if you must be cheap about it just squeeze with yer knees and ride with balls of your feet on the pegs.

How does any of that help with kickers that try to send you over the bars?

Just go try any of that and see for yourself.

Are you talking about getting "bucked" (over the bars) or "kicked" (sideways)?

Bucked. It’s only on jumps though I get bucked into an endo.

Not uncommon on small jumps with small jump faces. That could be a suspension set up issue, technique issue, or both. If suspension is set up correctly, and well then work on your preloading of the shock on the compression of the jump. I've hit some jumps at MX tracks that have bad take offs that can cause this. I've also hit many natural terrain jumps that do the same thing. Assuming suspension set up is good, work on your preload timing to "bunny hop" to help the bike suspension prevent getting bucked.

sounds like a suspension issue. Only time I’ve ever experienced that is riding a woods bike on an mx track.

Grip the bike with your knees, hips out, on your toes, and brace for the kicker by being ready and on the gas. The only time you get kicked is when you have bad technique and aren’t ready for what is ahead.

I try and pre jump before a kicker and let it float over it staying loose and letting the back end do what it needs to.

Unlock your hips and get rid of your neck brace

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m envisioning a small 6” to 1.5’ tall obstacle?

depending on placement such as on exit of corner you can carry your front wheel over and let the rear soak up the bump, as mentioned above squeeze with ankles and knees and then let the inertia of the obstacle extend your body into a standing position. This technique would conserve energy and leave you in a position ready to attack the next obstacle.

Just my .02 but without knowing the exact track condition and assuming your suspension is set up properly it is hard to give advice... good luck!!!
