Cerakote on top fork tubes?

Anybody ever do this? I know it CAN be done but I’m just curious about the durability

Its more durable than anodizing them. Dont really look as nice tho

Really? I would have never expected that. My forks slid at some point and scratched them up bad. As long as it’s not scratched I’m fine with it. I know cerakote has a more dull look but I think black would look good. Black doesn’t need to be shiny. In my opinion

Just remember any coating you put on can get scratched off.

Yeah I know. I just would like for it to last 60-70 hours before it looks terrible and needs to be done again.

You should be fine.. i mean both of my bikes are 10 years old and the coating is perfectly fine

Its the stock kyb and showa anodizing that came on the kx250 and 450 in 2009.

I’m actually getting into powder coating and cerakote and was wondering the same thing. Still building my shop but should be ready to rock and roll in a few weeks, can’t wait to get coating! I’ve been paining cars for 19 years so hopefully I pick it up relatively easily.

Weve done it, and it looks great. Can not speak on how long it will last as they were all show type bikes that were for display more than anything.

Cerakote will scratch off the tubes relatively easily, so you have to be careful when installing or adjusting. It's definitely better than paint, but nowhere near as scratch resistant as hard anodizing, so given the choice go with the anodizing.

Afternoon Vital Members,

X2 on Luxon's comments. I've done both anodizing and cerakote and the anodizing will last substantially longer than the cerakote, and adds many other functional benefits. Anodize is IN the material, cerakote is ON TOP of the material. For suspension components, anodizing is the superior choice for a multitude of reasons. A second recommendation, you know those cool stickers that every suspension company puts on the fork tubes? Their not only too look cool and represent those great brands, they also protect that coating or anodizing from getting damaged from rocks, dirt, etc. Get yourself a set of fork tube decals of your choice after you coat them and it will extend the life of the coating and remain "cool looking" for many years.
