Looking to swap my stock blue tank for a black tank. Any ideas that dont involve an oversized tank. I want to change the color of the bike but the blue stock tank has to go

Thanks for the info. I read a review and it sounds like it doesnt fit right. Im curious if there are other years that are interchangeable.

I've had four Clarke tanks for the YZ's...never a fitment issue. There's a few guy's on ThumperTalk that dye'd their tank black. I don't know if you would be interested, but Clarke offers the YZ tank with the Low Profile cap...which looks great IMO. Also, Racetech sells a complete plastic kit that comes with a black tank.

If you're fitting it to a steel frame bike it won't initially fit correctly, or if it's patterned from a steel frame tank it sits slightly higher on a later bike but it'll fit. The tanks will swap between the two although you need to stick a large bit of rubber to the underside of the tank at the rear or it sits too low on the steel frame bike.

Also the 125 and 250 tanks are the same. Be careful if fitting an oversize tank to the 125 as the exhaust sits higher. The Acerbis oversize enduro tank drops down further than the original tank and nearly sits on the exhaust. We stuck some Aluminium tape to the bottom of the tank to protect it from the heat.

You never had an issue fitting the stock size Clark tanks to aluminum framed YZs? I've been holding off on going with the white/red look because it seems like everyone hates the Clarke fitment. Maybe I'll just give it a shot...

No problems at all, they fit perfect on my 05 YZ 125 and 13 YZ 250. The only issue that I remember was the upper part of the shrouds didn't fit as flush on the tank as the OEM. I also bought a Clarke tank for a 2006 CR 250, then found where they offer that tank with a flush mount gas cap, and they let me swap tanks...I just had to pay the shipping cost. Oh, my YZ tank was yellow...Hurricane, lol.

Check these out. He ships all over the world! Helps with graphics bubbling off on the gas tank also 🤙

I got a black Clarke on my 2005yz125 and then got one of these covers ontop of that to keep it fresh!

If you don't mind, please follow up with how the fitment is, with pics if possible! Not that I don't believe ledger... I've just heard bad things forever and want to make sure they are consistently fitting to the frame now.

Has the tank been installed?
11/25/2019 11:27am
Just installed a black Clarke Mfg tank on my '05 YZ125. Fitment is close enough as long as you address the rubber spacers. I removed a little material with a rotary tool and all is good.

Wish I knew about the flush gas cap option though! Damit.

I have had 4 black Clarkes on various aluminum framed YZ's ,never had a fitment issue. Had to use the rubber they shipped with the tank ,but other than that everything fit fine, shrouds lined up ,etc. . However, I DID have 2 gas caps crack around the top perimeter after only a few hours of riding. I didn't keep my receipt so I had to purchase new caps.

Ordered the Clarke tank and just mounted it today. It fits. I did have to use alot of down pressure on the tank to get the bolts in. I havent finished getting the entire bike back together yet to see how everything looks. So far, so good

Finished! Everything lines up good. The tank fits pretty snug to the frame. You have cut the stock rubber pad off the tio of the frame.

Told you !! Just kidding. The bike looks great...I can't tell from my phone, but is the airbox aluminum ? Anyway, glad the tank worked out for you.
