If you were any potential factory rider and you wanted to convince the bosses you were in shape, what would you do? id go race mountain bikes, or marathons, something with timed results. none of this "im in shape"...

Seems like taking west coast guys who have done well, and making them leave everything they know, move to the east coast and practice in rainy/muddy conditions in the middle of the woods, away from everything that made them successful isn’t the best system. Watch the Hanny Whiskey Throttle episode.
You aren’t wrong
To be clear, not making an excuse for Hill. He would of shit the bed on a factory Honda this year too. Just saying some dudes have struggled after having to move to NC. There is some evidence that supports that

His whole situation can simply be summed up by the quote: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” Very frustrating to watch.

Another thing I notice in his post is “I want to prove I can be the man but only if someone gives me a ride.”

When other riders have found themselves in a situation where they didn’t have a ride, what have the riders that went on to find success and land on a team again do? They got a bike and raced to prove that they have that drive and desire to race. If he isn’t willing to go race on his own and prove his worth, I think that goes to show where his effort and desire level really is. If you want to prove yourself, go do it!

What you’ve done so far in your career has landed you where you at, it’s not by coincidence. If you aren’t willing to prove yourself by racing, then that says a lot about your confidence.
Fully agree on this. Hill is a one hit wonder and that line in his post just shows he has no heart for the sport, and he neither has the will to compensate for lack of heart.

I agree with you. Lived through that myself.

Except Hill is from the wet/muddy PNW, I thought.
