It's been a long process, but I'm almost done with this one......started off as a racer, but as the receipts started piling up, decided to keep it as an ornament. Couldn't bear to ride it knowing what it would cost to fix it. Built it to be better than the original (I raced one in '78), so a few liberties were taken, but nothing that can't be returned to OE.
Hope it passes muster......Cool

You spent too much money building an amazing bike just to look at. You should have kept it as a rat. At least you could enjoy riding it. What are you saving it for? Myself if it mattered that much to me I'd have a second set of plastic and ride the drier late practice. There are plenty of trick CR250S left in the world that future generations will remember what they look like. You did an unbelievable job but I would have no problem using it. How did you make those numbers? They look just like Martys. I'd like that font for my numbers . What pipe is that?

Love it! Thanks for keeping the Blue Anodize to a minimum. What kills me is seeing bikes "restored" with so much extra color (blue hubs and yellow swingarms come to mind), that a good bike ends up looking like a clown.
Nice work. Now go do some easy laps on it. You'll regret it if you dont.

Pipe is a DG....... removed the emblem. The number plate backgrounds were done by a local sign shop. I took a picture of Tripes bike to them, and they did them for me. The number is also my Dad's old high school football number....... that's why I run itCool

Also, you are right about spending too much time and money on this...... I just don't want to be the one to Nerf it.Wink

What front fender are you using? I bought a Preston Petty but I dont like it. Yours looks good.

'83 CR ......if I remember correctly, it's a UFO. I didn't like the original fender........too floppy, especially if mud was involved. The front forks/clamps are CR480 with custom machine work by a friend of mine.

Congrats! Even though I am an Apache guy by trade, i’m Qualified in the Blackhawk and have about a 100 hours in it. Flew both aircraft in Afghanistan my last tour.

I raced a brand new '78 CR250 for the Honda importer in the Philippines when I was stationed there while in the USAF. I have no lost love for the bike other than they were by far the coolest looking bike out there at the time. I also raced a new RC125 Mugen powered bike for them as well. That bike was substantially better than anything else out there. I had my day in the sun, rode lots of interesting stuff, and was fast enough..... don't need to relive any of it. I enjoyed building the bike, and it is pleasant to look at. Everything in the bike is brand new, or better than new. Like it has been said, it's only like that once (or twice)...... taking it for a spin will do nothing for me other than degrade the bike for someone who would appreciate it for what it is. I have other stuff to ride/race, so that's what I do. That's the cool thing about our sport....... it's all about what matters to youCool

I totally understand you. You put your hours and money into the bike,not me. And you created a bike that's probably better than factory bikes were at the time. IPlease don't take my cheap Internet message board comments as my criticism. I think differently for me and I was voicing it. And use it as a warning not to trust your bike in my garage because there will be mud under the fenders and boot marks on the cases the next time you come over.
What was racing in the Philippeans like? I have a buddy there who rides. They don't to have the money for new equipment but seem to have a passion for motorcycles. And thier tracks need help

Racing in the Philippines was quite an experience. I was practicing on a black market YZ 125 on the international track in Manila one day, and the manager of the Suzuki MX team happened to be there.......my lap times were a couple of seconds faster than the current National Champion Butch Chase. He offered me a ride on the spot. The Air Force allowed me to be an unofficial ambassador representing the USAF. Lol........the stories I could tellWoohoo

But..... there was this one time I had to be at a meeting for all the Suzuki Team guys......
I was stationed at Clark AB which was a pretty good distance from Manila (where the Suzuki factory was located), so the manager had me come down the night before so I would be there early in the morning for the meeting. Trouble was, there were no decent hotels near the factory, so the team put me up for the night in a ........brothel (sort of). They were like mini apartments with private garages and entries. The room had a mirrored ceiling/walls and this big round bed that spun around if you put a few pesos in the coin slot.....we're talking red velvet....the worksWhistling
Since the meeting wasn't until the next day.....what are a bunch of MX guys going to do? Well.....seeing as there was a Suzuki factory full of brand new motorcycles just sitting there....... about a dozen of us borrowed a bunch of enduro bikes and had an impromptu motocross race through the streets of Manila and the Makati shopping mall. Cops everywhere..... it was a blast.
Cops were on Honda CB100's.......we had Suzuki TS 125 and 185's. No contest. Parked them back in the factory..... no one was the wiser.....although lots of unproven accounts of crazy motorcycle guys running around the next morningWink
