French MXoN team is in trouble... again

It is instant classic last couple of years.

French team got hit with injury bug. Romain Febvre is out for good. Adding insult to the injury even MM25 is ruled out (even if FFM would play nice this time).

Poll

Who would you pick to accompany Gautier Paulin and Tom Vialle to win the damn thing yet again?

Not really. But it is not like any of us here is manager of team France anyway. It is more like a fantasy draft thingy...

Obviously ferrandis if he would do it. Otherwise tixier or reneaux. Probably tixier.
Or is there any French rider that doesn't currently do GPs and is good in the sand? Like teillet or aranda - probably not

I forgot those two. I think that top notch enduro riders could also do very good in the oranje hell.

I’m sure they would rather pick Ferrandis too. But the problem is Ferrandis won’t go. So it’s going to be Tixier. I don’t even understand the point of this thread. There’s absolutely no disputing who’s going to be on the team?

How about Stephen Rubini? He finished runner up in the emx250 champs and rode like a man pocessed in Sweden.

I agree... But the question was, "Who would you pick".

I have just watched the 250 press conference at Ironman ; Ferrandis must wait for his green card so he can't go back to europe anyway.

Only big name available now : Musquin, but is his knee injured and would he be accept the selection ?

That’s a really dumb question. Anyone who wouldn’t pick Ferrandis to replace Febvre and Musquin would be an idiot. There’s not a single rider up there that even somewhat compares to Ferrandis.

best suggestion yet. I am somehow skeptical that FFM would just let this slide. Laughing

They have Bayle, DV12 and Pourcel to fall back on...no problem.

Tixier can be very good too, he won a world title so he is not a bad pick either but several injuries took him out unfortunately of the factory rides. With a small team, he is currently 20th in the standings, 2nd behind Van Horebeek who is 9th, on what I would consider bikes everybody can buy. It is a great bike for normal people but even with the team VHR's best effort i am quite sure there is a gigantic gap vs. a factory ktm, it is simple, the budget ratio must be like 1 to 10. I just hope they can find a factory engine or some good factory parts, or Herlings's spare bike (jk)... If the stars align the team may still be able to score a 3rd with something like 30-40 points.

Still on the podium with Tixier. Even with Febvre another win would be tough because it's going to take some horrible luck for the Netherlands to keep them off the top step.

I’m not knocking Tixier. Obviously he’s a good rider. But Ferrandis good? No, not even close.

But Ferrandis has already said he wants no part of this MXdN.

France could send me and they'd probably still be a threat to win.

I know, i was just trying to defend him because i am sure he will get some slack especially from the french fans.

Also, on hard pack, Ferrandis is currently better no doubt, but on such a sand track it favors a bit the mxgp riders who train a lot at Lommel. I just hope Tixier gets a little boost in term of equipment, on a sand track like Assen it is game over at the start if he doesn't have mucho hp.

It is also a good thing they slightly changed the start for the event ; it is still favor the inside gate a lot, but it was a bigger advantage on the previous grid. Right now, I give 50% chances of win to the team who qualify 1st (50% if it is not the Dutch team, if it is I would give 80% chances) ; that is why a bigger factor than usual, one of the "key to the race", is actually the little lotery that determines the grid for the qualification races. Not sure it will plays a big role regarding the win, but for all the teams between 2 to 7 it will be a key to make the podium (i.e. a great grid for team Switzerland, Australia, GB, or Italy could very well put them in contention).

Images will speak better :

It's France, they are on a winning and good luck streak. They can fill it with Tixier or take two of Vialle, Renaux, Boisrame and put one on a 450 and still have a good chance at winning.

I would go with one of the leader of the French Sand Championship, someone like Chapelière...
