This year especially I found dozens of ebay and craigslist flakes.

I never wrote so many responses to potential buyers only for them to flake on the payments or never respond after I wrote so many responses.

I posted one ebay ad and specifically said USA buyers only. Some guy from New Zealand decides to bid on the motorcycle with 30 seconds before the auction ended. WTF was he thinking?

I ditched ebay selling and started selling at Mark's swapmeet. Again I had a bad experience with a women who after 10 or so emails decides to blow me off.

I give them my paypal account to deposit funds to but nobody follow through. Amazing.

Am I the only one having trouble with Ebay, Mark's swapmeet and craigslist?

Anyone have any stories to share?

Isn't there an option to block people who international? I haven't sold anything lately, but I was thinking there was.

ebay is so 1999.......

CL is getting huge, but with the increase in size comes Lots of problems.... prices are going up, spam is getting very troublesome.... but still a great way to sell some spode a non-working stereo in an empty parking lot near your house......

never tried "marks swapmeet".....

I've always had great experiences with e-bay and craigslist.

I can't say that I've learned from mistakes, but I can tell you what I think I do right. AWESOME images and CLEAR CONCISE descriptions. They aren't necessarily brief, but organized and easy to follow.

It's kind of my philosophy from trial and error in work/life - It takes twice as long to do it because of the detail and thinking about all the scenarios - but ultimately it saves me in the long run because I've never had any headaches or drama.

I'm not a powerseller or running a business selling via those channels but I've sold cars, computers, misc stuff - I'd say I've got 50+ sales (mostly craigslist) - not one instance of a problem - only time I've had an issue is when I bought a few things that they didn't describe clearly.

I've heard a lot of people comment about flakes - even when buyers call up to buy stuff they've said "I'm not a flake" - When they say they are coming, they show up cash in hand - or paypal before I ship.

Do you have any examples online to see what you are doing?

I posted my CRF450R with pics and description and I had a guy call and ask what was the lowest I'd go then ask if it was a CRFX? I set up times to meet after several conversations about the item. then call an hour or so before to confirm only to have the guy say he wants to reschedule and never calls back. Or if I'd trade for a half rebuilt jeep or somethign useless, some people are either retarded or they just think the other person is.

I received a check for a car I'm selling on craigslist. I deposited it. It was about $1000 more than I was asking. sweet!! I then wired the $1,000 to some place in Nigeria. Still waiting to hear from the guy. I think his internet must be down.

I've had some bad experiences lately buying off of Ebay and CL. More in the last three months than all of 2008 and 2007. Even from a couple of sellers with 100% feedback. It sucks waiting on a part to arrive only to find junk. I think it's just a reflection of society in general. Now on a positive note I did just pick up a sweet rim for my '81 YZ250 that looks like new! Back to the ads....

Last summer I upgraded my roadbike frameset and spent a lot of time watching prices, responding to a few ads on various sites, buying, then selling my old frameset. I could not believe how many scams on road and mountain bikes! And scams on both sides, selling or buying...

Fake ads, people that had recently moved to Canada but the frame was still in the states, brokers, forwarders, iSoldIt, Nigerian Presidents, you name it. Luckily it is easy to do a little research on the the names and e-mail addresses. Some of the people are dumb enough to keep using the same information over and over and literally have forums devoted to them...

There was a YZ "made famous by Doug Hannah" for sale recently on Ebay. Must of been Bob's brother??



Currently, on CL there's a 1978 YZ250 for sale with modern day Honda CRF plastic! It looks so stupid. At least the seller does point out that ....
