I think he will. I was listening to a podcast a few weeks and McGrath sounded like he thinks James can do it. 10 wins a year for the next 4 years. I figure he's left 10-15 wins on the table due to injuries. I can only imagine the fallout if he actually surpasses 72...I don't think it'll be pretty.

7 x "Supercross Champion" ? -No, don't think he will match that.

72 Wins? -That number is going to be crushed.

He might. The difference though will be how many races they add to the series. There are already at least two more races per year than in MC's day. So,,,,,,,,, wait on it,,,,,,,,,,,,,, NOT STRAIGHT UP!

I don't think so. I think James will retire/move on before that!

If he sticks with it....I think he can. Im pretty confident that he will blow past the 72 wins for sure. That seems to be his goal, and I think if he really wants it he can do it.

So in 5 years he's about half way there?

I say that he won't pass either record.

We know he won't pass RC's records!! lol

LOL, it's sad Bubba is still running from RC and RC doesn't even race MX anymore, Bubba has to go 2 seasons of outdoors and not lose to be in RC's league so he skips Outdoors. Not hard to figure out. Sad for his x-fan here also.

I don't think he will. 40 more wins is an awful long way to go.

In theory he has enough skill and his young age will allow him to ride for quite a few years provided he wants to stay around that long.

I don't know what direction he is heading after moto but you can bet your ass there is a 2 year plan in place for the kid...... So if he accomplishes the goals he has, I would bet that he is outta here and on to something bigger very soon. He is currently marketable with some strong outside sponsors (Nike) so who knows how long he sticks around.

I say he doesn't break either record.

The game has changed.....competition is fierce. While the competition settles in a bit once they get to the premier class, I don't see Bubba being able to handle 'em all 4 years from now. If he can handle Villopoto/Reed for the next two seasons it'll take alot out of him.

Bubba isn't even at his best right now. His best was 2007. He was untouchable that year.

I think both records are attainable depending on how long he stays in the sport. If he goes SX only there will be less wear and tear on his body and he has 6 months of the year to do whatever else he wants. I think the 7 SX championships will be the most
difficult. If he races 4 or 5 more years he'll get the wins barring injury or another JS/RC/MC(?) coming up through the ranks. Makes you appreciate the "KING"

X100... He'll be gone before then especially if either two things happen.
1. He gets an offer to do something else like race cars.
2.Or if He's not close too breaking it in 4 more seasons, 10 win seasons are going to get tougher not easier.
Oh and 7 titles isnt happening. Although I'm sure James thinks He can win 30 races in the next two years if He rides smarter not harder, Heck He is the Michael Jordon of the sport, so anything is possible I guess. Would rather see him win 5 to 7 races a year, I think that would make for much better racing. IMO

Me too. He's won all the big Championships, does he really have it in him to keep going? Maybe his lady will get pregnant and he'll focus on family? Who knows but we'll all watch when he lines up.

He has the talent to break the indoor record set by MC , but the question is , can he stay healthy long enough to do so? He rides past that thin line by quite aways sometimes.

The overall record set by RC for combined SX and MX.......there is not a chance in hell of that happening. I don't see anyone dominating like that again in our life time to be honest , but you never know.

I think he can pass RC in the SX and maybe even MC , but i don't see it happening. 72 wins is still friggin incredible , and he's got some young fast dudes coming. They are not up to the speed of james now , but when james gets older , he'll slow down a little , while the newer kids are just going to get faster.

PLEASE RE: can only imagine the fallout if he actually surpasses 72. I certainly hope your post isn't an obtuse race card angle.

This is the 21st century, we have an African American president and James has legions of fans. Sure there would be some disgruntled yahoos but they're the exception not the rule at this point in James' career.

Personally I would like to see Showtime's record stand but if James breaks it I'd be one of the first to congratulate him.......

The win or crash racing style isn't conducive to long careers. I don't think McGrath has anything to worry about.

one other thing....CHAD REED.......If james wasn't out there racing , i think he could beat MC's record. Why?....because he's so damn consistent ! He's light years ahead of everyone else out there except James. Again , IF James wasn't there , i could see Reed batting a 1000 in SX. I've been a little tough on Reed over the past few weeks , but it's not because of his riding skills , it was because of his actions and little comments. Watching him ride though , is like poetry.

No accident Reed is so smooth....he idolizes McGrath and patterned his riding style after Showtimes.

blubba has zero chance of winning 7 sx class titles...... he'd have to win the title each year through 2014....... don't see that happening....

and i don't think Reed is now his biggest threat...... Poto is.....
