If it wasn’t for Lawrence’s mechanical, he had it by a mile. Kinda think they should of given it to him anyways. But without a title, I get it.

Cause he won the 250 class and got 6th in 450. Swoll won 450 and got 30th in 250.

Going by this definition Lawerence ahould of got it.

The Horizon Award is given to the A-class rider who shows the most promise as they prepare to enter the professional ranks.

I'll bet anyone Lawerence has the best pro career out of all of them.

Probably right but in the past it has gone to the more consistent rider through 6 motos.

The award doesn’t have a hard set of requirements so it’ll always be up for debate or interpretation.

No offense to Jalek, he has probably dreamed of winning that award for years and pulled through to win a title when he was hurting. Respect. He has a great future with plenty of support behind him.

But it’s the Nicky Hayden Award. Jett did what Nicky did by going to a place he’d never been, holding his own, and showing there’s a different way to becoming a good rider than the standard feeder program.

So is it required that you win a class to receive the award? Also, is it required that it only goes to Open Pro Sport or 250 Pro Sport guys?

Just looking at average finish for Open and 250 Pro Sport:

Munoz - 3.5
Swoll - 15.5
Shimoda - 10
Lawrence - 7.5

Stilez Robertson had 1, 2 finishes in 250 B and Schoolboy 2 - 1.5 avg
Mason Gonsalez went 4, 1 in 250 B limited and 250 b - 2.5 avg
Matthew Leblanc went 1, 4 in 450 b, School Boy 2 - 2.5 avg
Hunter Yoder went 1, 3 in 450 B limited and 250 B limited - 2 avg

Basically, if you go with only pro sport classes, Munoz should have won by the numbers. But if you add in the B classes, then Robertson had the best week. If it's really who shows the best chance to succeed as a pro, Jett would most likely be the choice. Sucks... they should have given it to Munoz and Swoll as a shared award IMO.

To be fair. You are averaging in a DNS from swoll in 250 pro sport. He was apparently injured and was trying to focus on open pro sport.
No offense to Munoz, but he was definitely not the fastest guy and I don’t think anyone would say he will have the most successful career based on what we saw at LL’s.

Also the dnf for lawrence counted in for average , Lawrence podium every moto across the 2 prosport classes and only had to finish like 4th in the last 250 moto for overall ,so it was luck that Munoz won , Jett was leading half the moto and didn’t make a mistake and crash or get a bad start and crash he straight up lost it while leading not through any fault of his own where shimoda crashed ,brown crashed early and swoll never lined up as he already had a 6th ( where he went from 1st back to 6th ) and 13th place in that 250 class so yes Munoz was going to be on the box due to other riders mistakes but it was still luck that he won it as a bike dnf is luck not error on rider behalf . Don’t get me wrong congrats to Munoz that’s an awesome feat but don’t talk it into something it’s not . His win was lucky, but a podium was more the reality which is still a great effort at this level . So as for horizon award swoll and lawrence were more the candidates .

100% correct and I do not disagree with you. But as we've seen year after year in SX, you have to have the consistency as well. Tomac's current lack of a SX title speaks to that (2018 mostly IMO). So it's hard to discount what Hardy did across the board... when you think about Dungey, do you think raw speed or consistency? I'd argue consistency... how many straight top 5's did the guy have? Just something to take into account.

That's why I asked the question if a class win is required to win the award. If it's not a requirement, then Jett absolutely should have won. If it is a requirement, then you have to take into account total performance where Hardy was more consistent.

Jalek is a great kid. Not only did Bobby Hewitt see something in him, so did the Stewarts. He's been spending a ton of time with Timmy down in Florida and I think he is going to surprise a lot of people when he debuts. I think anyone coming up through Bobby's program is at an advantage over anyone else just because he plays an active role and makes sure they come up to the pros with a good head on their shoulder.

and for what it's worth 10 of the last 23 or so have a Pro Championship to their credit so there is some merit to the award.
