Clean it up and run it for awhile see if you can find where the leak starts and go from there

Looks like Either your head gasket or maybe coming out of the oil overflow tube where it goes on the top, or the tube has little crack around there letting some oil

Check the valve cover gasket. If its running fine I dont think a head gasket will be the culprit.

Is it using coolant? Head gasket can blow into the cam chain area and pressure builds and oil pukes out the breather where there is a hole at the top. Check the valve cover gasket first I guess.

If you have more volume than you put in, you are either adding gasoline or water to your oil.

Physics says: You put a quart of oil in, you won't get any more than a quart out.

I would guess you over filled the oil and it's blowing out the small hole at the top of the overflow tube

We just had an oil leak on sportbike at work and couldn’t find the culprit whether it was cases or a seal. Yamaha said to clean it up and cover the engine in baby powder and then run the bike you can confirm where it comes from. Just pressure wash off afterwards. Pretty easy to confirm where it’s coming from.

I’m assuming I have to much oil, it’s not burning coolant and runs fine, should I drain and when I fill it back with oil remove the check bolt and go off that reading instead of the 1200ml it says to put in with a filter change?

Make sure you drain it from all 3 drain bolts.

I don’t have a Suzuki, so I’m kind of irrelevant, but 1200mL sounds like too much. Did you get that from the manual?

1200ml is stamped on the oil filter cover. The manual actually specifies 1100 for an oil change, 1150 for oil and filter and 1200 for an engine rebuild.

The best thing about suzuki is nothing has changed in the last 12 years, so it's easy to remember. It's also the worst thing about suzukis lol

Engine plug, then by the gear shifter is the metal oil screen, then under the left hand plastic engine gaurd, down the bottom is an 8mm drain bolt, it will have a different washer to the other bolts around it. You will get a lot of oil out of that bolt.

Yup drain at minimum the crankcase drain and the ignition cover drain. I always did all 3 just to clean the magnetic screen. 1100ml is correct as posted above.

Mine leaked around the cam chain tensioner before. It’s easy to take it off and put a new gasket on.

Is it using coolant? Head gasket can blow into the cam chain area and pressure builds and oil pukes out the breather where there is a hole at the top. Check the valve cover gasket first I guess.
What’s this “hole at the top of the breather” you speak of? Is there intentionally a hole in the hose up where it routes over the fi before routing down to the linkage?

To much oil, are you draining from both drain holes?

Yep, that’s what it was! I drained it out of the bottom plug and filled it up with 1050ML on Thursday. Went and rode and oil is puking everywhere. Tore it down today and cleaned it, then drained the oil from the bottom plug and stator drain plug. 1500ML came out. I simply didn’t drain all the old oil and it was overfilled with my additional 1050. Problem solved! Thanks for the response!

*as an aside, it’s majorly stupid to have a hole at the top of the crank case vent tube Suzuki. It was squirting out of there all over the back of the engine. Would be much easier to diagnose if it was coming out the bottom of the drain tube. Rant over.

Moto Hose makes a new breather that routes towards the front of the engine, looks way better than all those hoses.

Hard to see in that photo, take off the valve cover gasket and clean and inspect.

Fellow yellow riders - I am wondering if anyone has re-routed their vent hose and removed the tee in it? I'm trying to clean some things up on mine and I'm not quite sure why the crank vent is so elaborate on this bike.
