About 6 months in the restore and quite a few dollars. I think she turned out well though. I’m glad to see all the restores on this site. A lot of good bikes out there coming back to life. See you at the track !

Excellent build you did a great job! I am currently in the beginning stages to bringing an '87 back to life. I have a lot of questions and hopefully you can help, I will start the thread on the build this week.

Thanks....I learned a lot about the 87’ during the build. There’s a lot of guys on this site I’m sure will be glad to help. If I can answer any questions or help let me know. Good luck. Post some pics and document your build on Vitalmx if you can...

Hey Mark, does your bike have the one piece upper triple clamp that has the bar mounts machined into the clamp? Mine is like that, but in my manual they show one where you can change out the lower bar mounts like a modern bike. Actually, not the manual, the parts fiche on-line at Rocky Mountain is where I saw it. Was that a later mod for the 87s after production had started?

Nice work, very clean and you should enjoy it as she looks great! Are you planning to run some EVO races or just cruise around? For the fork boots and seat cover did you use OEM or aftermarket?

Thanks... I used aftermarket. I couldn’t justify $85 vs 30. Unless your wanting to go strictly OEM, there’s good aftermarket fork boots out there. I used a lot of OEM, but I’m better places I think

My bike is all pretty much all original except for an 89 water pump case. Here’s a pic of the triple clamp and bar mounts. I’m not familiar with the mod for newer bikes.

Ok, so your upper bar mounts are interchangeable. Mine are not. They are machined into the upper clamp. Will provide pic tomorrow.

Harry,

Is this what you are looking for? This guy put some extensions on top to raise his bars up:
