Hey let's be real! It's also called Keep It Simple Stupid! KISS

Let's live in the Realities of the day, that 50% maybe 70% of the MX/Off-Road riders today are Waisting, Waisting Thousands of Dollars on High End Bikes!

250's are to small to have enough Torque!
300, 325, maybe 350's are the best size 2-Ts in 2019. Just look at this race the Kawi 500, lost! Granted it is an Old Design, but contemporary 2-Ts could be a 300-400 cc bikes, meaning less work, less repair, less hassel!
But they would provide Epic Fun!

Yamaha are you listening?

Bowers was actually ripping on that 500 and catching the lead before the flat in the 2nd moto...

Ok I've a couple questions. First off, how much is this thing WITH pipe- do the cases need to be notched? Or can I just rip off my stuff, then base gasket up it's all me. Do they come with the bitchin anodized head and pv? And lastly, another member mentioned the cylinder wasn't nikacil , can I have that done? And he mentioned the Pistons wear the cylinders fast in non plated cylinders, but weren't all bikes non nikacel(am I spelling that right) until the 90's? I don't recall the Pistons banging all over with those bikes, I know nickacil is better, but is it leaps n bounds better? That being said, Tony, I hope your getting your shit for free cuz yer towin that line hard son. Like Mack truck hard.

My Bike: Nothing comes free! It's just epic Fun!
MX Tracks, torque out of the turn, nice linear power band (easier to ride), stronger than a 250 could ever hope to be!

By the way, I SOLD the 250 Cylinder, it's obsolete! I will never ride a 250 again, not enough Torque! An ESR 325 has has around 32/33 Foot LBS, similar to a 450 but not as broad of a power band. But it beats a 250 everywhere!

Hey Tony, I get it as do the rest of us. You love your 325 kit. But it isn’t for everyone. I absolutely love my stock 05 250 motor. I wouldn’t change anything about it.

I bought it for $1500, rebuilt the entire motor with a new stock cylinder for $1000 and put $500 of misc stuff like graphics, 2015 plastic kit and 07 yz clamps. Just bought an FMF pipe and shorty silencer today for $200. I’m into mine half the money you are and I’m just as excited about mine and you are about yours. It’s what I like and what I was looking for in a YZ250.

We all like something different from our bikes, but saying that a stock 250 is obsolete? Get out of here, bro. You might not like it, but I do. So does JM485 but he prefers his with a flywheel weight. I know what I like in my bike, you and Josh probably wouldn’t like at all. Just like with yours. And looking at Derrick’s dyno numbers and the way the power is made on a Mod 250 vs the ESR 325, I’d take the mod 250 every day of the week. Just like you’d take the ESR 325.

Haha well as we age our reflexes tend to slow down a bit. I’m a bit younger still at the age of 28 and I believe Josh is definitely a young pup at 21ish? We all want something different from our bikes. I grew up on two strokes until I turned 15 and we wanted to get back to racing. It was over to 4 strokes I went and my dad stuck with his 05 KX250 for 3 years before jumping ship to a 450. I rode his 250 on and off here and there because I loved it even though I was young and had a hard time riding it at times due to the jerky style of the motor. But as I grew older I learned throttle control and the technique it took to ride a 250 properly and I absolute love and enjoy the way 250 motors are made. That to me, is so much fun!

Transmission replacement for an 11 year old (2007) bike (5 yrs. ridden by an Expert younger rider before me) is normal. 1 bearing had a click and 1 gear had a chip, so it held up pretty good.

What happened to Bowers 2nd moto?
Someone posted in the other thread that he got a flat tire in the 2nd moto. Major bummer as apparently he was in position for the overall win.

A 325 2-smoke interests me because I always felt a 250 could use a little more power. I'm a little larger than average though at 205-210 lbs.

24 as of yesterday (jesus wtf am I doing with my lifePinch ). I’m a big fan of flywheel weights not to tame the power down, but to just smooth everything out overall and also keep things moving at high rpm. Everyone thinks that they’re only made to smooth out bottom end hit and that’s not the case at all, it’s the added benefit of keeping the motor moving that I like the most. I’m pretty much a gear higher than most everywhere on the track, that’s always just been my riding style, so keeping momentum going is a must for me and that’s where the flywheel weight comes in. Before I put it on I wasn’t happy about a kid rpm dip that the motor had, and the flywheel weight pretty much negated that.

That said, the last thing I’m going to do is add a bunch of vibration, a steel sleeve, and a huge overbore without a stroke to match so I can completely change my motor character around and produce something I’m going to hate. I might like it on the trails, but this bike gets used for everything so that’s a no-go. If I had unlimited funds the first thing I’d be doing is balancing my crank and smoothing things out as much as possible, I can use the power it currently has effectively but having everything smoother and more free flowing is the best thing I can think of to improve it, even though they really don’t vibrate all that bad now adays anyway.

Rant over, I’m getting old and I’m pushed about itLaughing I you love your bike that’s great, nobody can argue that and that’s a wonderful thing, but no one bike or motor is going to be better for everyone that’s for sure.

Edit: As far as trans go, for comparison I pulled mine apart at 150 hours and every gear looked good, however most of the bearings were due to be replaced. Based on that I don’t think the 325 kit is really hammering it all that much more than a stocker is, but riding style will obviously play a major role here as well.

Bolts right on, anodized head and pv come with it. If you are dead set on nikasil you have a few options, you can nikasil the steel liner, or have a custom aluminum sleeve pressed in and nikasil (that’s what I had done). The reason eddie doesn’t go with nikasil is when making the bore larger the skirt on the sleeve gets thin with the steel sleeve it still has enough strength, if he went with an aluminum sleeve it would then have to be a smaller bore or you would have to bore out the cases. (And even then you could go larger with the steel sleeve)

Based on that I don’t think the 325 kit is really hammering it all that much more than a stocker is, but riding style will obviously play a major role here as well.
To your comment "the first thing I’d be doing is balancing my crank and smoothing things out as much as possible", yes I am doing this, I believe it will be $230. I noticed little if any difference going from a 250 to a 325, but it is only logical that matching the Crank to the size of piston will help at some level.
