ya, i remember the days when MC was a machine- get holeshot, run and hide, repeat..... very rarely crashed...... rarely hurt..... rarely missed a race...... gained lots of time by staying soooo much lower over the jumps than the rest of the guys in the pack..... absolute perfection in motion, year after year after year....

Hey, there was some shots with the digger cam. I wish they would bring that back on today's broadcasts.

that's day program speed nowadays. which is cool because nowadays everyone who shows up makes the night program.

McGrath is the king though, no doubt.

I'd put McGrath at top 15 this season.......he'd still be qualifying straight outta the heats.

MC is way underrated amongst modern-day motocross fans. All of this GOAT RC bullshit makes me sick every time I hear it...RC only has 40-something main event wins while MC's 72 will never be beaten. How can you people refer to him as the GOAT? Simpletons.

wow that track layout is cool, hard as a rock though. they must've built it way in advance for it to harden up like that.

He was so precise... the BMX background really shows in that vid. I did find it funny how they look so slow in the whoops compared with the speed of Stewart and Reed....

I'm not so sure, in fact I doubt it. Reed was able to beat RC pretty handily in his rookie year when RC should have been in his prime, unless you would say CR would hand MC his ass too. I'm not so sure that would have happened. You have to remember that MC did all this while being Mr party animal. Can you imagine how good he could have been had he really focused? Smile

that's funny you mentioned that. I thought the whoops looked pretty damn small and they were blitzing the shit outta them

MC bringing his BMX into SX changed the game forever.

Him popping up 10 years after his prime and going top five on a smoker behind 4, 22, 7.

Thats undeniable. Read an article this week, think it was Matthes, saying he's been testing with Honda outdoors and is only a second off their guys. Long Live the MotherGrabbin King.

Totally. I can't believe that so many people don't know how good this guy was, and still is. He was so innovative and dominant. It seems that new people that have got into moto within the last 5 years or so tend to be really ignorant of the sport's history.

McGrath as I remember was more popular and a much bigger star during his time than anyone ever, including Carmichael. In SX, he was untouchable for close to a decade.

That track is pretty tame by today's standards in fact a lot of local fairground tracks would be tougher.

good ol Denver. Don't let em put any dirt on our precious field. Had to run it all around the outside. One of the reasons we'll never get another supercross.

haha, yeah I was going to mention that as well, Mcgrath was during the good old days, bar Friday night and race Saturday night, I'm sure that's not how it went but its probably pretty close. another thing I wonder is that there has deff been a change of ability, speed, track design, and overall talent, I wonder if MC would have been light years ahead still in present day

yep. Anyone who thinks MC couldn't hang with the best ever really hasn't paid attention.

Comes back part time and still runs with the best on a 2 stroke? Handled KW and DV in their prime...KW who challenged for the title last year. DV, one of the only guys to challenge RC speed wise during his run.

Yeah, MC is the king of SX for a reason.

Don't forget he handled RC himself too. Jeremy was in his thirties before RC dethroned him on his 3rd or 4th try.

Looks more like the local arenacross. Illustrates one thing that everyone is mentioning. The speed these guys are going today even in the 250f class is blinding. Really no reason to have 45 second laps. Time for a different approach to the tracks. Slowing down the traffic would be good for all. The viewers, the safety of the riders.

Was Jeremy just better with the media and the public, or is public relations tougher today?

i agree.

4-strokes killed the technical aspect of the tracks.

The tracks changed a bunch throughout the years with MC racing. This is in 96 when the tracks were for the most part, pretty simple, After he started doing real well, they made the tracks super technical, which only helped him. Then they tamed them down a bit. I think the early 2000's were the best tracks without a doubt.
