LB is gone...Good. Get the fuck out and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Arrogant ass. We all take abuse, especially here. That's why the Racetime guy comes here away from his own bore feast rather than going for a much needed hair cut. Some enjoy the abuse and get a chance to serve it as well. It's not LB's bag and that's fine. Jimmy Lewis and Swap are not Team Managers and it was obvious that Larry wasn't taking their jobs either.

Racetime, nothing has been poisoned in many years. Get past it. This sport was tainted many years ago when it went from a guy with a bike and pick-up to a snotty nosed rich homeschooled prick with a 50 foot RV.

Here’s hoping MXA replaces him with Jessica Brewer…"

Can I tell you how stupid that seems to me? Why in the world would someone like Larry Brooks, let what is said on a stupid, meaningless, measage board have any influence on what he does.

Every single fan of mx/sx doesn't read these boards. Does he not realize that less than probably 1% of of all MX/SX fans even read the message boards???? (I'm guessing, but I would be completely surprised if it was more than that). So why would he react to such a small minority?

In my opinion, a person with his position in this industry shouldn't even be reading these boards (neither should any other major player in the industry), let alone stop writing an article because a very small percentage of mx/sx fans that read these boards gave him crap for it.

Anyway, I get slightly annoyed at the way the industry players even care what is said by the very few number of people on the message boards.

I can understand why they do, I've been posting on them for several years now (motoworld, then motodrive, now here) and sometimes I have to step back and remind myself that what goes on here, isn't the "entire mx world"...because after spending time on the boards, it's easy to get sucked in so far that you think that everyone that follows the sport follows the message boards...and it just isn't true.

IF Larry wants to write those articles, then he should write the articles...and stop caring with the few of us that post here even think. Very few of us, know enough about the industry (and especially his team) to even have an opinion worthy of him even caring about.

Anyway, I'm off my soap box now...

As the sport becomes more and more mainstream I think people need to be careful what they wish for. LB had some harsh opinions at times butthey were just that. Everyone complains that the interviews are laundry list of sponsors and corporate opinions but bag on a guy when he lays his out.

The oppurtunity to hear from someone who has such a high profile position should be accepeted as a benifit. Sure there were times when it was advertising but a reader has the oppurtunity to use their brain and filter out the BS.Maybe that is where the system breaks down. At least he was willing to offer some other perpective and there was some good info if you read it carefully. No other sport allows fans this kind of access.

You wouldn't see a NASCAR team manger post their true opinion becuse they are tied to sponsor corporate crap. At least in motocross you get unprecedented access that I'm sure it will go away in time. Look at the fact that you now have to get a ticket to get a damn autograph. They only keep the pits open long enough to get in line for one "superstar". Good luck getting in to a NASCAR pit and get the same oppurtunity because the drivers are ninjas at avoiding fan interaction.

It is human nature for people to whine no matter how good they have it but to run a guy off is a shame. I hope everyone enjoys looking at the teams through a plexiglass wall and reading corprate rhetoric on ESPN.

Except for the first line or so, you are actually quite right.

But it will never happen, it's too late, and like it or not people who call their businesses "THE sport" won't allow it. Boards that get big enough to get noticed like this one are "message managed" so even if all the "names" left and it looks and reads like a fan site, it won't be. The message is managed in ways you don't see.

The tradition has more than one source and it has changed over time. With SX it has been built into their thinking from the beginning and it's held them back. I heard people say that is what really wrecked things with ESPN but there is certainly more to it. SX, the Movie was a bomb in part for the same reasons-I saw a movie review site that called BS on the film right from the beginning. MX is paranoid of MX sites and ramped up management a few years ago mainly because of a bad experience with an ATV site. Then they turned their eye more to MX boards and I better not go there. I didn't notice it change until the RC fuel flap and I had pissed off the AMA big time..

It's not logical because the boards are not big enough to worry about, but they are still "opinion leaders." People who want to monitor opinion look where they can find it. VitalMX is clearly the best place for that, even if you have to sort through a lot of BoobyM's crap. Smile

And when there are opinion leaders, the message managers are there. It can't be "just a fan site," but it can look and feel like one, and it's that's good enough for you, then it is.

Fair enough. Problem solved.

Except, the rest the sport knows this too. They have opinions, and they may have a message too. For some reason I think a lot of the fussing is them not being given a chance.

There was one OEM team manager a few years ago that would agree with Titan and pretty much said the same things. Let the fans be fans. (Of course, that wasn't want I wanted to here, because I was trying to figure out how to combine the two and make it work. That worked out real good huh?)
well there goes my 15 minutes....1 minute longer than broons...hehehe. Smile

Late for the cubicle dwellers, not so much some other folks.

I guess pointing out the irony of a man who tried to launch his website with with a public feud now lecturing us on the evils of internet negativity is unnecessary at this stage, but oh well.

And yes, I'm quite aware that this falls in your consistently broadening and selective definition of an ad hom.

I've been an MXA fan, and by proxy, a Larry Brooks fan, for years. His rants completely sullied my opinion. The guy is a first class crybaby and douchebag. We, as fans, should automatically suck all the industry dick that comes our way, for fear of alienating them? They might not want to play in our sandbox any more? Please! At least they won't get sand in their vaginas anymore. Harden the fuck up! Quit complaining LB. You enjoy a relative life of luxury and fortune compared to the average fan. Keep your "out of touch" crying to yourself. Good riddance.

I will tell you right now, this business is a horrible business to be in, politics and whose ass you kiss goes along way. People that are not in it want to be in, and alot of people that are in want out, but since its the only thing they know they are stuck.

Having an industry job used to be a cool gig, now its full of a bunch of elitist, pompus assholes. Guys walk around like they are kings because they have some coveted job, Please.

Mechanics that are nothing more then over glorified parts changers these days rule the pits and act like their shit dont stink. Team managers who are somebody in their own minds act like they are important and they should all be worshiped while out banging everything that walks.

Insiders post on boards and their word is supposed to be gospel ?unquestioned ? Of course you have the wanna be insiders, who kiss their ass and lap up everything they say. I am glad to see when you guys give the elite "insiders" shit. Some need a dose of reality, because in the overall sceme of this big nation, motocross isnt shit. We work in an industry that could dry up tomorrow and 95% of americans wouldnt even know its gone.

Larry Brooks is an ego maniac, he couldnt handle his words being put to the test and he pussed out, truth hurts huh Larry? Why dont you grow some balls and keep doing your artical and let people see what its like to be an "insider" instead of whining in it every chance you get, oh yea, Larry is a whiner, no two ways around that, has been for years.

A guy who had to turn his bikes and rider over to another team just to get the bike dialed in so his rider could win a main should be a little more humble. I mean if we are really going to talk about whats really happens, truth is a bitch.

Please Larry, dont get me fired for this, I know how much pull you have, I read all your self glossing articals.

One thing I can never work out is why message boards are so well known and talked about in the motorbike (specifically dirtbike) industry. In no other sport that i can think of would you hear the best athletes referencing something said by someone on a board, have you ever heard of a coach of a team changing the way they do something because of criticism they got off the internet?!

Seems stupid to me.

Its always stumps me why so many people obsess themselves with other peoples opinions to help them form their own opinion.

The ones who have independant ideas or back the unpopular person get attacked and discredited by the mob.

Classic herding.

DV always came across on the message boards as a fan first and foremost . he just happened to be a pro rider , but he was at heart a fan of mx , just like the rest of us goons on the boards . larry brooks was just the opposite . it was very obvious that he thought of himself as being above the message board goons and was doing them a favour by lowering himself to interact with us . i still laugh at his infamous "you people" post ..... Huh
good point.

LB wants a dictatorship with himself as head honcho.

Also, if he's going to throw his views out there in a public forum, he must be prepared for the fans to respond.

Okay, angry mob...you can put the torches down, and take the rest of the night off. I think we get the point.

And if you want to keep trying to continue with a, "Oh, you slammed Larry good, but I think I can top that," maybe we should just move it to the Dumbgeon. But again, after the first eight or ten slams, we got the picture.

Personally, I found it very interesting that a guy in his position would put himself out there like that. Very few would. And the ones who would? Well, it'd be so watered-down, you wouldn't want to read it anyways.
