Sending you a message about the frame piece
Yeah, i'd only ever seen it done with shims, and was all set to have some made, but then I came across this clamp set.

Merry Christmas to me, from me! Picked up the base bike for this build, pretty clean 93! Slightly more than I wanted to spend, but it’s also already been partially gone through, so it’ll (theoretically) need less work....
Came with some neat goodies on it already..,

Minor update, soaked the clamps in greased lightning to remove as much of the ano as I could, sending them out to get black anodized today. also started stripping the paint off the forks... they had been rattle-canned primer gray, and under that they were purple. i'll send the lowers off to get powder coated red as soon as i get them apart and strip off the rest of the purple.

i Have a silencer that you are looking for...... would you be up for trading it for one of those rear fenders?

Lye removes anno. I use Roebic drain cleaner (Home Depot/Lowes) put about 2 cups in 3-4 gallons of water and stir. Let the clamp soak for 30 minutes of so. Wear gloves tho!

Does the CRE have any transmission mods, wider gearing?

My CR has the stock transmission at this point. Back in the day some of them had wide ratio transmissions. I've been searching for one of those for a long time with no success. I think the hard part there is that by this point, most of the people with WR transmissions in their CR's don't know they have them, because a lot of those bikes are on their second or third owner, and that knowledge wasn't passed along. you'd have to ride two of them back to back to tell the difference...I'm not holding out much hope that i'll ever find one. it might be possible to match up the gears out of another bike and make something work, but that's low priority for me right now. it'll be "good enough" after I figure out the right final drive gearing.

Got the clamps back from ano today. Not completely flawless but a big improvement....also found an NOS Acerbis front disc guard to fit the conventional Marzocchi forks

Finally started making some progress, now begins the long process of disassembly and cleaning, and figuring out how the whole dashboard/handlebar setup will fit together. I've decided to save powder coating the frame for a next-winter project, mainly because I want to ride this thing! The suspension is currently at Hitchcock Industries in Denver. the next step from here is more cleaning and polishing.

Where did you find this parts? Especially the headlight and the rear Enduro fenders?

I just bought a HM Honda CR 250 from 1992 and looking so badly for this parts....

The rear fenders are really hard to find. I got lucky on eBay with both of mine, and am actually down to one now because i traded one to a guy for one of the supports that goes under the rear fender.

the headlight is easier, it's an Acerbis HP, and i think the original part number was 30-22. this same light was part of the first generation Baja designs dual sport kits, so there are a lot of them out there, but they'll never be listed on eBay as fitting a CRE. I think mine was listed for an XR600 or something.

Search eBay for keyword phrases like:
Used Baja Designs
Used Acerbis Headlight
Acerbis 30-22
Baja designs white headlight

progress continues.... I finally found an FMF ISDE silencer, cut it down slightly, and cleaned it all up. I just need to get the right size rivets for the end cap. it should be slightly quieter than a moto silencer, but will probably still run pretty well. surprisingly it wasn't a spark arrestor like the eBay seller and I originally thought, which is a bummer, but i'm thinking I can find another old turbine core and rob the guts out of it...

Jesus. Where the hell did you get all of those?

Love this bike as well, currently one of my top 3 favorites going on right now on vital. Hope to see you start an RMX soon after this one is finished. I really need to start my projects.

that collection is about 30 years in the making. My Mom was smart enough to force me to keep the collection on those plexiglass boards after she lost her epic moto sticker collection when the washer & Dryer they were stuck to broke.

Dude I just peed a little when I saw this! that bike looks awesome! I want to see more of that aluminum tank! If you're interested, I have a brand new set of the same Acerbis Handguards that I have on my CRE (not cut yet) in the same Blue as in the pic of Randy's bike above...

The alloy tank for something I had picked up for my 1992 RM125. Turns out it doesn’t fit. I thought the mounting was the same between the 125 and 250.
So I was just checking to see what it looks like on the RMx. Likely won’t keep it.
Definitely want those hand guards if you are not in need of them

You are really making me want to buy one of these old Japanese enduros. I have an 03 XR250 years ago and I still can't get over that bike, not high HP, not good suspension, but still absolutely bulletproof and super fun to ride for some reason. I will see if I have any old pictures of it. I have a 2004 250EXC I will be "budgetly" restoring after I finish my 125SX.

Love those Acerbis handguards. The blue one on the photo you posted is mine. I was fortunate enough to find a few of them a while ago. All NOS. I also have a collection of frond disc covers and fenders.

Here's the uncut pic.

Nice! I just found that pic on Google... I love those Handguards, best coverage ever, just the right size without being too big. I scored two sets of the white ones... also super jealous of those Elba 2 lights. I have a black one in the secret squirrel stash too.

How's this for a before & after? Maas Bros powdercoating killed it on the paint job on the Marzocchi Magnums. Now they go back to Hitchcock Industries for re-assembly & valving.
