The reason I say AC is the second best ever is because of his consistency. On one side it’s easier to say this about AC as he does one series and less races. To me winning the double “SX - MX” is the hardest and leads you to more chances of injury like what happend to RV. But in the era of RV RD started to build his Empire. With AC as soon as he got in the 450 class no one was building shit. By the end of 2014 and his sixth straight 450 title which was the best run in the history of the GPs he had 6 straight 450 titles. Only 3 of his competitiors at that point had more than 6 450 GP wins. RV was faster in his prime IMO but it took him a couple years to win and (realistically his 450 prime outdoors was the end of 2011 and 2013 only about 15-16 outdoor races) by the time he won in 2011 Dungey who was a year younger had two titles and in 2011 SX it was more about Stew throwing it away than anyone winning it he was so much faster at times and in 2011 MX it was all about Dungey’s bike being a hunk of shit. To me RV was clearly the man in 2012-13 and I agree though with it being harder to win in two (SX/MX) and RV had much more competition but still AC was always there and he even evloveld and hit another gear deep into his career in 2012 after Uddvella - spelling is off I know. From 05 through 14 in those 10 years he won 8 titles. 8!

Yeah from 2009 through 2014 RV competed in more races even with his injuries which caused him to miss well over 40 races in that span.
GP guys spend more time racing than US guys.

About 30%-50% more actually.

All I know is , Tony is one bad MoFo , and what he's accomplished in this sport is down right incredible. After 16 years and at his age , and what he's still capable of doing ( yesterday )....the word incredible doesn't even do him justice. Legend for sure!

I think that the most impressive thing about Cairoli is that he stepped up in his late 20s and now early 30s (almost mid). He has never been better, he said it himself in MX Vice's post race podcast after Argentina.

his double pass on Gajser and Febvre on the most challenging part of the track was beautiful

To just ride like he does for a few years would be amazing. To ride like he does for 16yrs? Legendary!

Yep, great movie I think it's on Netflix I saw it a few months ago.

Tony is a legend No Doubt.

He is the Valentino Rossi of motocross they're both at 9 World Championships I want them both to get 10.

Let’s detour back to cairoli:

It’s just amazing to be in sport that long and being top level competitive against young pros.

Look AC is amazing, no doubt... 9 titles in 15 years of GPs is unreal and second only to Stefun... But to the point of being the best championship racer... I can point to Townley, Pourcel, Rattray, and Herlings all having beat AC or left and argue there's less titles he might have got done if not for their USA aspirations.

RV. Two disciplines (harder to be good at two sports), 9 titles, never lost a premier title he completed (only really 2 others, 09 & 10 SX, 09MX he did one round), hell, he was only really beat for a regional SX title. 4 straight of the toughest offroad series in the world (him and MC), and lets be real, you have to give him a better than even chance of winning 09, 10, 12 and 14 MX. He beat everyone BAR RC unless you wanna add the MXdN, where i'm pretty sure he won his class each time and 100% pulled something out his ass when the others weren't getting it done.

RC once said "I think I do what I have to do, when I have to do it." RV is the definition of clutch, and to me, 2nd all time, from anywhere and I'm not so sure he'd have not put some blemishes on RC's books either.
I have more respect for cairoli, not giving up and retiring too the next top competitor, motivating himself too keep going at his age and not giving up unlike RC at 26! who knew js7 would be too much too handle Whistling (no disrespect too RC )

You do know that in RCs Sam Jones ineterview he admits he quit because “guys” were jumping stuff and taking chances that he no longer wanted to do right? You obviously watched races back then and know exactly who he was talking about. It’s not like RC is not still the GOAT. He will be forever, but it was obvious in 07 which was RCs best riding year btw if you actually watch him, the bike was dialed compared to years past espically in SX. But in 07 SX or 06 really he didn’t have to much for James. Unless he crashed or Reed runs into him.

If if if,. Doesnt matter. Rc retired in 07. What about beating rv,rd5 reed? Stewart is one of the greats. But not even close to rc , rv rd, mc. And i wont include the gp riders.

Those 6 straight 450 Motocross titles were a very underrated stretch of his career:

Champion in 2009 - 2010 - 2011 - 2012 - 2013 - 2014

It's funny that it can't just be about a truly great rider, it has to always be this rider was better or that rider was better or us vs them. Tony Cairoli, one of the Greatest!

In my opinion RC and Cairoli are both the best and the most accomplished riders we've ever seen in mx... Cairoli is easily the best european's rider, yes over Everts, for various reasons, competition, evolution, results vs americans and such...

2012 and 2013 were probably his best years overall, and would've beaten anyone at the MXoN, RV too in my view, shame it didn't happen... 2009 was also another impressive year from him, both 2006 and 2007 also, his 2017 was fantastic too, coming back from two injury's ridden years when everyone thought he was too old and competition passed him by...

Yes, he lost a few times vs guys like Pourcel, Rattray and recently to Febvre and Gajser, wich are all elite guys by the way, but if you actually watched the GPs Cairoli was always the fastest man on track by far, only injuries, mechanicals or errors made him lose a few titles on the way...

After 16 seasons, 33 years old, he's still at the top and trying to improve, him and Herlings are the fastest men around, Cairoli faced three generations of riders while staying at the top all this time, it's unbelievable...

And if Herlings can stay away from too many injuries, he's certainly on his way to join both RC and Cairoli as the greatest riders of all time...

Living and still racing legend. I'm sure he shares DNA with Rossi. His record's will be hard to beat when he's finally done.
