I don't work at a motorcycle shop any longer but work at a scooter distributor and talk with dealers everyday if that counts

Let me take a guess:
You have to card anyone that looks under the age of 35 before selling them parts.

You guys are going to have to actually stock parts that riders may need?

Oh, I could go on and on with stories like this and it's not just one dealer, it's all (most) of them from my experience. There is one larger dealer fairly close to me that has surprised me though. I needed crank seals for an old 2-smoke and I'll be damned if they didn't have them in stock. From what I understand they do have some justification for not keeping a lot of inventory on hand but that's the entire point of having a local dealer in my opinion. I expect to be able to go to them and get common parts that day. I also understand and am more than willing to pay them a premium on that part for that luxury.

It's a HUGE dealership that I went to. And I have an 09 so its not like its something insane I was asking for. The lady working showed me the drawing to make sure it was the right part then she said it is a special order item. Blew my mind.

That's probably why it's a special order part at the dealer. My guess is dealer price = $5.95, Lowe's price = $0.65.

Or better yet - If you have a ACE Hardware store near you, they usually have a very large selection of metric nuts and bolts.

The set up guy at the shop probably has a coffee can full of bolts that will work but........ they will not be the same as the stock bolt.

My local dealer wanted to charge $5.95 for those washer inserts for the number plates that Suzuki is famous for. Home depot $.15

Alright, we already know that dealers don't stock parts and what they do stock is way to high, but what is going on in the industry that is so big? Is PU shutting down or did the price of FREEflo vent hoses go up a nickle.
