A little late on the ride report. So I get to the track and make it 1/4 way around and it dies, Oh boy, I push it off the track and it starts right away. I ride through the infield and get back on go over the finish jump and it dies again. Track was pretty deep sand on this day. Ok so I played around in a field there trying to figure it out and came to the conclusion it was electrical and we left. Motor was running strong.

I start checking all elec with the ohm meter and find the 2 plugs for the cdi not clipped together completely by at least 1/4 to 3/8s on an inch.



Both those clips are suppose to be flush, the holes you see is where the clips lock in and little plastic locks should be showing there. Problem is there is a 3rd clip inside that makes you think it's all the way in until you push really hard to snap in place. The pins inside were barely touching if at all. So I'm convinced that's it. I also replaced the kill switch bc the back popped apart when I was checking it. Back out to the track and same thing happens, this time my son is back and it's him riding. After a couple times in a sandy straight he was able to tell the rear brakes were locking up on him and he slid off the side of the track.

Ordered rear caliper and rear master rebuild kit. One of the few things that I didn't rebuild, should have just done it the first time.

2 of my friends had 98 CR125s. One stock and one modified with everything except kit suspension and titanium. They were pretty good reliable bikes.

Brakes are done, bleeding the brakes was very easy on this bike. I just gravity bled them and it worked out perfect. I'm not having problems with the front yet but I will get them done soon as I'm sure they are similar to the rears.

So we head back out to the track last weekend and had total success. Finally everything worked out and the bike ran top notch. Going to try to ride the night tracks for the rest of the summer because it's blazing hot here in Texas already.

Yes it does feel good. Now that all the bugs seem to be worked out, I hope to get through the summer with just regular maintenance.

It was 102 that Sunday we rode last week. Those are August temps normally. There is a track (Nocona) that has a race rightfully named the Hotter Than Hell race in August.

Semi custom M1 Series. You have a few choices of that set. Then you have to pick all your own sponsor's for the whole bike, fenders, tank, fork guards you get the idea. They also did my seat cover, they are cheaper in price than some others.

2009 crf250r front plate and fender. I wanted something newer but didn't like the bend on the current bikes. I just told them which front end I had and they took care of it.

Thank you for sharing the build - first new bike I ever bought was a ‘98 CR125 - loved that bike and still wish I had it - I went with the pro-circuit pipe and silencer, Boysen Rad Valve, and CR250 airboot - mags always dogged that bike but I loved it and did just fine with it.

Thanks Johnny, It's been a fun build even through all the ups and downs. Thinking about trying the Boysen rad valve myself.

Your CR looks awesome! Looking to do a rebuild/refresh on my 98 as well. I agree with you on the 09 front fender as opposed to the newer ones. What brand did you go with for your plastics? Front fender/# plate same brand? Are they really red or the OEM flourescent pinkish red that Honda used in 98? Thanks.

Went with oem front fender and plate from the 09 250f. Polisport has a kit that's actually red and not the flo red, they also have the flo red too though which I did not want. It came with a red rear fender but I stayed with the white that I had from previous order. I found the polisport on ebay. This bike is a blast to ride and gets a lot of attention at the track. Post your build thread here would love to follow along.

Very sweet build! Turned out great. Sorry you had some issues. As I read the first page saying you used a Wiseco crank I thought this is not going to end well......page 2 and you have a hole in your cases. Just an FYI as parts manager at a shop we refused to sell many Wiseco products due to failures like that. Every crank we sold failed within 10 hrs. My 02 CR250 is the one that made it 10 hrs. Each time I went to bat for my customers Wiseco paid for their entire rebuild parts and labor. They had to replace 2 sets of cases and replate several cylinders, but they did it after a lot of phone calls and threats. Funniest part was the guy I dealt with each time was the same guy and would deny deny deny.......each time I reminded him of who I was, who I worked for, and gave him past RA#s before he’d start coughing up for repair costs. They paid though.....

Yeah the original build on the bottom end was about 6 years ago. I had no idea about Wiseco cranks quality at that time. I estimate the crank had about 7 hours on it when it came unglued last year.

I knew this time but couldn't find a side case I needed so thought I would get a few more hours on it while looking for the case, and then would replace both case and crank. As the saying goes if I only knew then what I know now lol. OEM only cranks from now on, or have it rebuilt.
