Seemed to be quite a few more 2-strokes at the track today. Of all bikes, there were probably a third of them that were 2-strokes. Not sure if the numbers being sold/ridden is rising or not, but it sure looked that way.
'03 yzf 250 (fast)
'03 ktm 450sx (worst bike Ive ever owned)
'05 kxf 250 (slowest bike on the planet)
'05 ktm 525 sx (great bike)
'07 sxf 250 (fast)
'08 sxf 250 (slower and more problematic than the '07)
.
I like them all but never really looked back when they were gone.
A couple of years I bought a used '03 RM 125 to play on and use on the ice.......I sold it and its the only one I really wish I still had.
Im gonna find another RM 125 soon and keep it forever.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
The 144 & 150 sx is perfect on paper but the ones that have left his shop have been less than stellar in the reliability department.
Any of the '07 and newer KTM's feel comparable to the jap bikes IMO.....My pre'07 KTM's had a different feel that took some adjustment.
My '07 and '08 KTM 250f's both felt a lot like riding a Honda.
I just cant seem to come to terms with the same chassis and a two stroke motor......the KTM 125 and 250 sx's that I have ridden always seemed to "feel" different. I've ridden and raced a lot of them ( through my Bud's shop) but never owned one that I could take the time to set up just right.
They all seem to almost have too much traction and are hard to hold onto.
The smokers just feel like race bikes.
I've owned 2 KTM's a 97 360EXC and a 07 250EXCF both were awesome bikes but they are different to ride. I bought the 360 after riding Honda since 84 and the KTM fit like a glove, it felt like it was built to fit me.
KTM's will feel different to anyone who has ridden jap bikes only but if you get a good one you'll love it
Pit Row
Everyone that has went back to the 2 strokes have not regretted it one bit.
Said it was fun to feel that light, flicky feeling, yet while you can be more aggressive, they are more forgiving. Just they feel much more in control.
Even know 2 that sold their smoker 250 YZs for newer 250 RMs. Happier than shit.
The fact that they are dead nuts reliable helps a heck of a lot too.
I dislike the fact some are gouging prices on 4,5 + year old 250 smokers on Craigs or Ebay. Check Kelleys Blue Book and other prices.
In '07, my best friend was lucky; got rid of his anniversary YZF 250 for $2800(yellow one) with not a many hours and found a '05 RM 250 that still had a replacement top end kit for $2300....he loves that bike after several YZ Open thumpers and last the yellow '06 250F YZ, he's one of a number of happy people to switch back.
I would not say it's exclusive to America, I think Youthstream mentioned a 125 2s class
in 2010.
But maybe a revolt against the Japanese, for jamming those lead sleds down everyone's throat would be more accurate.
In my hunt, I found four 07's.. One dealer in TN. said he's keeping it for himself, the one in MO. was just sold, SC. and TN. both have one, but they both want 5 grand for them!
I found an 05 and 06 here in Illinois.. I got the 06 for 4200,OTD...
I'm pretty sure he said 3500 for the 05..
Watseka, suzuki, honda, kawasaki.......(815) 432-4352...
Are you going to the Cooperland ride day?
If you get this bike, I could haul it there for you..
It's a BRAND NEW 05.... Well kinda new, I sat on it, played with the clutch and made BRAAAAAP sounds!
Let me know if I can help..
Viva La Revolution !
