not part of this sport anymore? the panziing around shit with each other like james and reed did last week at less than full speed is kinda chickensht. reminded me of ward and the chicken almost slowing to a crawl to get the other dude back....not that they were going that slow. Smile

this is simply part of why new wave moto will never ever approach old school, 2nd hardest sport in the world, 2 45's, all uphill in the snow etc.etc. motocross.

I can honestly say i have never ever, and i can speak for magoo and brad and darrell and hannah and any of those guys back then, even thought about NOT making a move for the pass...no matter where or when...if there was just a bit of an opening of daylight, you took it and it didn't matter if it was a hard pass or the other dude went down from contact. after the race you might have had words or even thought to yerself.."i better watch him next week cuz he's gonna clean me out" but you never ever thought ahead like they do today. i think maybe even rc started this niceynice stuff (although he could do it if he wanted to)a few years ago. read in an interview somewhere when he said "you have to see him again next week" or "retaliation isn't what anybody racing wants" or something to that effect. i never even came close to the level of james and chad so maybe it's different at that paygrade.

there are just a handful of racers like that oldschool shit anymore, hell jlaw might be one of em....bummer.

on that note...i think if i was mike i would have tried to hard pass james last week....those kind of opportunities don't come around too often.

Hey, I still do ALL my own Stunts!.......though last week on Numb3rs,after I get killed, they hired an extra to take my place and lay around on the ground all day because my body would still be in the shot.Laughing

there's nothing outlaw about motocross anymore probably started with Mc. Just before that you had Bradshaw and Chicken still doing the humpidy bumpidy while out front. Hell Hannah and anybody he was racing with starting with smith in 76 where in for a ride if they wanted to race with the Hurricane. and it wasnt like anyone ever really got hurt from a little bit of rubbing. Hell come to think of it, how can any of these guys have anomosity with each other when they're serving each other tea..Hell even Schultz and Myers thru a couple elbows.. when Myers caught him...LOL

Here we go again with some of that "those were the good ol days" crap.

Best racing in years and everyone acts depressed like they're missing something.

Just 20 years ago Bradshaw was doing that stuff every other week too ........if you're gonna go to the trouble, might as well be in it to win it. ......I think 750,000$ salaries have washed that away for the most part......as a fan I give to Chad and James for being real racers.

MC was the King of clean racing...... and he really did make some comments to keep the racing as clean as possible..... after all, he was so much faster than the rest of the guys in SX that the only way they were gonna beat him was to put him on the ground....

the AMA has made some rulings in the past that might have an effect on how aggressive the guys pass in pro-SX today...... like the K-fade pass on DV12.... everybody remembers that....

Blubber shouldn't even be in the position to be stuffed or brake checked by Reed.... he's just that much faster.... but between mistakes and not grabbing the holeshot, he's not always away clean out front....

I also think riders of today make less mistakes and are smoother, more stylish, and have much better technique, which tends to go away from the more out of control banging, stuffing, and swapping. Why is that? Kids start earlier. Have coaches. Trainers. Camps. Video. Practice tracks. Mechanics.Etc.,etc. All at a much earlier age. The sport is now more about money and is more professional, with more exposure and worldwide notoriety for the riders and teams. Guess it takes a little of the emotional explosions of passion out of the game and smoothes it out a bit. Oh,well. I started riding in 1967 and racing in 1972. And I'm still deep into it up to my neck. I've seen a lot. I don't miss the bikes or the tracks of that era one bit. I do miss the people and the low cost of the sport in those days.

clean racing is only possible with unequal competition, get 2 or 3 or more and it boils down to "racin"...what it was meant to be in the 1st place

Bob the skill level today of these riders is light yrs ahead of what it was back in the day. These guys do not need to play bumper cars to get around each other.

As far as Mike goes why even bother trying to make a hard pass on somebody that is 3 seconds a lap faster. making a hard pass or even worse taking Stewart out is a invitation to the hospital because he can get anybody at any time on the fasted part of any track and end a riders season.

Always remember you don't shit where you eat!!!!

Because its the American way nowdays. You have to be nice and make sure everyone feels good about themselves. Competition is bad, everyone should be a winner. lol

The reason why isn't the riders...these riders are as tough as they ever were...it's the fan base. Remember the shit the fans gave RC for knocking over Pastrana? You'd think that RC murdered the guy's family. If you're going to cry about the guys bumping each other (I remember quite a bit of estrogen flowing around here when Villo gave Alessi a shove at Red Bud), the racers are going to stop doing it.

Let's bring old school to the stands. If you're sitting next to someone who starts to boo when a rider gets rough with another, slap 'em up-side the head, and tell them to:

Watching the main from Jax on TV it seems like the top guys have very little fear of being parked over a berm. James could have put Chad on the ground any number of times. The first few laps after James passed Chad (when Chad stayed close) He could have put James on the ground a few times.

Maybe the riders bought into all the "gotta win straight up" BS from the boards

Bingo!

Stewart could have passed Reed at any time but didn't want to deal with Reed's riding on his wheel "newly inspired" but never willing to go for a pass.

Once he knew he had him figured out, he waited to squirt by with a few laps to go and sprint to the finish.

After the arguing in practice and with all the internet and press blowhards hyping their little rivalry, James most likely just wanted to get by clean. And maybe toy with Reeds head a little.

Chad knows not to fuck with James. James will retaliate much nastier. James has got that in him and Chad don't.

racing hard and taking somebodys quarter seems reasonable!

Post a reply to: why is racing somebody hard and giving no quarter
