I combined the two images to make it easier to read.

I was lucky enough to ride the Saddleback resurrection when I was young. Only place we could legally moto after school. Big thanks to Orange County for hating everything that's fun.

Can you imagine how much complaining there'd be if a track today had the same kind of prep as Saddleback?
Maybe those beat down So Cal tracks of yesteryear has something to do with how dominant guys like Hannah, Bailey, O'Mara, Ward and Johnson were. Pure speculation.

Raced there every weekend. Saddleback Saturday had 4 races. Pros race 1, Int race 2, Nov/Beg race 3, everybody else race 4. 45 min moto's for pros and 35 min moto's for the rest of us. Muddy practice, great 1st moto and concrete 2nd moto. Out of there by 1:30 pm. That's the way it was.

Here is the 1984 National and I agree the complaining on everything would reach epic proportions today lol: https://youtu.be/WFZ6MOH4z10

Nobody should ever get their hopes up again for an OC track. If we can't even keep a BMX track open there is no way we will ever get another chance at a MX track.

Maneh used some "creative" lines.

Though I have little memory of the actual racing, I raced 60cc & 80cc 9-11 and this is a 7th place trophy. Have a few grainy photos in an album somewhere with me and Spud Walters(battled him locally every week) and me and Jimmy Button(don't know if I lucked into a good start or he was lapping me).

Also, have a few photos with me, Tommy Clowers and Dana Wiggins from the Golden State earlier that year but other than that, unfortunately, I don't remember the place much as those were my only two trips down there.

Me and two buddies drove down from Seattle on Tuesday night made LA in 16 hrs. We were 16 years old. Rode practice on wed and Thur. Picked our dads up at LAX Thursday night. We were not prepared for the hardback and heat. Camped just up the road and drove into LA every night parting to Motley Crue and ratt.
I'll never forget some kid on a 60 doing this sketchy little quad right before you came back towards the start. Always wondered who it was.
We had a blast. did that uphill double every lap so that was cool.

Great photo from the early 80's of this rider jumping down Suicide Mountain. Check out the shinny blue grove on the downside. Crazy! Dude is sending it! Think the rider is Johner Kight. Cool stuff.

What an amazing place to have, didn't really know what we had until it was gone. Same with Escape Country.

Did anyone ever ride the short lived Saddleback 2 on the edge of Irvine lake? Nothing like the original but it was sure cool to have tracks that close again, even for a little while.
We rode the Saddleback #2. It was nice to have another track (for a little while).
I got to ride it once when I was on 80's. It was pretty cool. I always heard about Saddleback growing up, so even though it wasn't the actual Saddleback, it was cool to ride #2.

Are you talking about gym owner Lloyd? If so, tell him I said hi next time you see him. Haven't seen him in a while. He was a good customer of ours when I worked for Russ Wageman.

While #2 was no original Saddleback, it sure as hell was a fun ass track!

And so damn close. I didn't have to take my bike to work in order to ride afterwards.

Well, you're operating under the assumption that it's a "man"...my guess is that you'd be wrong, I'm thinking more like "child"....or troll...one in the same.

It's motocross, you ride what you are given. Some days it's hard packed concrete, other days it's deep sand and others it's a mix or somewhere in the middle.
