OK :-) I rode around 75 laps on Sunday at MX207and I tested a Vortex with their maps and Vortex with Twisted Developments maps and the twisted developments stuff was better but not way better the Vortex with their maps and neither ECU was way better than my stock ECU remapped by the Motolab. I spoke with Tom at the Motolab about it on Monday and he said he's only seeing a half a HP gain on a stock KTM 450 with a Vortex and the most gains are when the motor is modified, cams, head work, high compression piston and then he's seeing upwards of 3hp from the Vortex over a stock ECU because you can get very aggressive with the mapping. I did ride a buddy's 18 350 on Sunday about 10 laps or so and his has a cam, R&D throttle body, head work and a Vortex and it absolutely ripped. I was blown away by the power. If I had 10 guys ride it 9 of them would think it's a 450. It was that fast. It's been dyno'd at 56HP and there's a perfect example of where a Vortex is worth the money but in my humble and with my stock motor it just isn't worth it for the little performance that I gained.

Thanks for the input. I did install the used Vortex off of a guys 18 KTM 450 on my new factory edition. It has the Vortex maps. In the literature he gave me it said map one was the best on dyno. So far have tried several maps. I settled with map one with all three fuel trims set at 6. Its torquier than the Toyko Mods map and don't have to down shift as much for tighter corners. That is about it. Nothing huge. Not sure if its worth to send to Twisted on a stock motor after reading your post other than the FMF I installed.

Thanks Digger!!! Much appreciated! I’ll send my stock unit off to get remapped!

How much does Motolabs charge for a remap on a stock ECU? Thanks Digger! Great info coming from this thread.

I think it does, I am unsure of figures for Honda though to be honest

Definitely call Tom at the Motolab because he's doing some great motor work for probably 20yrs. My bike has a touch under 59hp now and he got me 2.5 hp from dyno tuning it. I'm sure the guys from Vortex and Twisted Development won't be all that thrilled with my post but neither are worth it for 1/5hp gain with my bike. The TPS tool that I use is from Best Dual Sport and in my opinion it's the best one because all built for you and you just plug it in and make your adjustments. It's very easy to use.

Guys our 18 Factory Edition started bogging Saturday night during a pre race practice. It will not idle, just shuts off. If you snap the throttle it just bogs.

We tried new fuel, changed the fuel filter, checked all the wiring and nothing.

Dropped it off at my dealer. They ordered a TPS because we had changed the settings. Can't wait to see whats wrong.

I had a TPS nightmare with a 15 YZ250F I am not looking to repeat that....

I don't know why something like a TPS can be such a hassle and made more reliable. My old 2001 Powerstroke diesel used to eat them for lunch. I learned to keep a spare.

Do you have any photos of the spark arrestor, or any info on how you removed it?

really is not a spark arrestor is a grid that as they said in a post above is to mitigate the sound but I also noticed that the flow from the air of the air outlet comes out better

Would also like to know how you removed the arrestor without destroying the muffler.

Ordering a TPS today and doing the Airbox mode on my 17 450

Looking closely at mine it appears the screen mesh is no where fine enough to pass the forest service "Poke" test or whatever they do. I have a FMF insert that is approved for forest and its much finer in comparison.

So would you leave it in place or remove it?

You'll actually need to turn the idle back up to start it or you'll have to hold the throttle partially open (which I don't recommend). Once you've got the idle reset to I think 2000 you'll be good to go. All of it is actually way easier than I'm making it sound and should take you no more than 20mins from start to finish. You're bike will run totally different and SO much better after the adjustment.
So the plan is. 1. Mark where my idle is set currently. 2. Adjust idle until readings dont go any lower on TPS 3. Adjust TPS...
So the plan is.

1. Mark where my idle is set currently.
2. Adjust idle until readings dont go any lower on TPS
3. Adjust TPS to between .60 - .63
4. Adjust idle screw back to where it was before
5. Start bike and fine tune idle down a touch to approx 2000 - 2200.

Does that sound right?
Thanks for the help by the way.

Out of interest after putting your idle back to std what did the TPS end up reading?

Not positive on the exact numbers but mine was in the mid 7s after readjusting the idle to 2200.

Good luck and trust me on this your bike will feel totally different after adjusting it's TPS. It will start easier and just bark right off idle which makes it snap to attention on the track. It's how the bikes should come from KTM.

I have ordered a flo orange set of plastics from Acerbis so I am going to remove the plastic flap before fitting, then going to remove the gauze from the exhaust (don't even know what this does).

How do you guys adjust your tps? Mine is right behind the frame so cannot undo the 2nd t25 Tora screw. Is there a trick to it or do you need to remove the throttle body?

Try You Tube, That is how I learned and there was also a link where you buy the tool or clip on wires to your TPS. On the new bikes they made it REALLY simple and fast to get to. Literally a 5 min job. Also you might have to bend a tork driver at a 90 or something so it fits i there. I'm not sure on some bikes but it easy on the new models. This is my first KTM so I had to learn all this KTM stuff and it makes a huge difference how it runs.

I have made the harness myself and ive actually made extra ones to sell on. I understand every step but just can't get the top bolt loose because it's behind the frame on my 19 sxf250. Might try bending a Torq driver. Tps was set of 0.5, I've open up the airbox and removed the gauze out of the exhaust, no when I go from 0 throttle to 100 quickly it dies
