I have MXsim on my PC and I have to say I love the community aspect of it. There's so many tracks and skins available to download and it takes seconds to do. But my God is the game difficult. I just don't have the patience to get good at it.

MXS emf. Its like the AMA/FIM for the game. They sanction all the pro races

Here's my big question for you sim guys- Why do all the dirt textures look like a BMX track?

I've noticed this trend of among young kids where they spend hours watching other people play video games on YouTube. I can't think of anything more pathetic and destructive to a young mind. Why do parents allow this to happen?

Do you spend hours looking at this site or MX videos? I do! How isn't this the same as watching people play games?
I do other weird hobbies, people have their own niches man!

Simply because the game engine is 15years old, so you are very limited with what you can make the dirt look like with decals and lighting. All the newer mx games are running on up to engines MXS does not hence why people think you need a good computer for the game.

There's one major problem. After years of attempts to pick this game up and try to make a few laps without crashing I find my situation hopeless. I suck at this game.

Same, I want to get into it but I just can't get the hang of it. After playing video games for the last 20 years or so I just can't make this game work.

You need to look up some beginner guides to start on youtube. You literally cant learn the game by yourself without taking a hammer to your computer. Once you can get around a track and throw some whips it’s incredibly fun.

Hours? Certainly not... minutes. I'm generally outside doing something active, including riding my moto. Kids need to work, not watch other people play video games. I don't have an issue with actually playing video games, but watching other people play video games? Come on man, how is that healthy for a kid?

An updated engine with better sound and textures would go a long way in my book. Have to watch with the sound off. Impressive if it is 15 years old.

As long as it's only for an hour or so a day I don't see any issue with it. I see it as healthy as any other screen viewing activity. How healthy is it to watch any video, period? Why watch a moto on TV when I could watch someone play MXGP the game? I would probably get better at playing the video game then I would riding moto lol. Seat time is the best time, but you can't be on the bike 24/7. If they actually play the game they are watching someone play, they might be learning game theory, hand eye coordination, pattern/rythm awareness, and cause/effect without even thinking about it. I would think that's more beneficial than watching Beavis and Butthead. Sure, they need physical activity and need to go outdoors to learn/explore and get into trouble. But if it's raining or there is nothing else to do why not chill out and watch something you enjoy?

That games harder to play than riding a real dirt bike

I talk to my parents about this often. They didn't have the same issues modern parents have with "screen time." I did nothing but ride my BMX bike growing up. I didn't care about comic books. The only thing my parents worried about what making sure I didn't get poison oak from riding in the creeks and coming home on time.

Kids today are immersed in inane online content, social media and watching other people do inane shit online. It's very discouraging. Kids these days are totally fucked, especially with how lazy parents are.

If you try to deconstruct why children are being children.. you are going to drive yourself crazy. We are a bunch of moto guys, if you really want the answer then join a fourm on child health. But if you want to go push your kid outside then go for it. But kids need to do what makes them happy. If that's coming home from school and watching a couple hours of people playing video games, then that's it. I also remember riding my bmx bike almost everyday when I was younger. Some people are different and that's okay. With the prevalence of mental health. Even if some kids are making it up. If it is what makes a kid happy who cares. Too many lives are lost from asshole parents that think they know what is best for their kids in that respect. No hate, I know you are just curious but maybe look at the bigger picture. I am curious on the statistics and affects of this aswell.

Not that I approve either, but it's not exactly a new trend.

I genuinely enjoy all mx games and would love to play but I don't have the time or money to build a gaming PC.

I think the MXGP games are made in the Unreal Engine

Only reason the game looks like a potato in the original post video is because they have to run the quality at the lowest levels to get the proper fps (frames per second) to make the gameplay run super smooth with a full gate of racers. If you are running motos with a few buddies on MX Sim you can get away with running graphics on ultra settings. When there's 40 people with custom bikes / gear on the gate and the track has erode settings on, you tend to have a bit of frame rate issues if you're on high graphic settings. Almost all competitive players in multiple games do this. Not just MX Sim. They turn graphic settings to lowest possible setting to get the best frame rate. You can tell a big difference between 60fps and 120fps when paired with a proper gaming monitor. Game feels so much smoother that way.

How many games are there over 10 years old that can host 40+ player lobbies and look high end while providing consistently good net-code? I can think of a very select few.

It all depends on the user's graphics settings.

My mate went and had *a PC built for nearly $4,000, then bought a $2,000 monitor just so he could play this hahaha. The graphics are fucking unreal! He uses a pretty unique 3rd person view too.

Was at my mate's today and he showed me JGMX's version of Tampa Supercross... That guy puts together some fucking awesome tracks. I was throthing, especially with the new Alpinestars, Arai, and Factory YZ450 at Unadilla.
