I'm certain on both really. I know what I saw on TV , and yeah.....I know Herling's is unbelievable basically every where he rides. I think he's even stronger now then he was last year. And like I said.....my money is on Eli if they both get good start's , but I would NOT be shocked to see Jeffrey beat him either! They both seem to be from a different planet right now.
I agree Eli can do it if he gets a decent start. But how insane would it be if he didn't get a good start. And goes FULL BEAST MODE when Herlings is out front and passes him late in the moto? That would be completely awesome/insane!

If Marvi doesn't crash at Iron, Herlings would not have won. ET was a bit burned after a long long season and he had everything to lose. Iron is not a good argument for the Herlings fans imo.

We talk about the fastest man on the planet right ? The lap timing at WWranch talked about. Eli was 0.35 faster than Herlings on a sand track (Best lap time of the day in moto 1). You can not deny it.

I agree about the consistency. Herlings is clearly better, no doubt. He is more in control i think. Maybe The KTM help him a bit...

Let's talk about riding style. Eli is clearly more beautiful to watch (Ok it's subjective but it's my opinion). Amazing skill legs, amazing intensity of riding, his body position is just perfect. Herlings looks and ride like a guy of GP500 and he looks a bit ugly on the bike, massive, heavy, square but i m ok, it's effective on a 450...

In brief, on a whole championship i think Herlings has an advantage but i prefer watch Tomac easy. That's a matter of taste.

I tried to be objective.

In the qualifying race, when the track somewhat resembled a sand track, I believed it rained, Herlings best lap was faster by 5 seconds. I couldn't believe how much the track crew had flatten the track for race day.

Herlings was;

4 seconds faster in timed qualifying.
5 seconds faster in the qualifying race
2 seconds faster in the second moto.

But lets hang our hat on that 0.35 difference on the 3rd lap of the opening moto...

Since when did they hand out points for qualifying times and races?

It doesn't matter.

He split moto's on a sand track with Herlings... That's the facts.

Are you going to take away that he smoked everyone in MXGP at Glenn Helen because he qualified like 5th but flew past everyone after two terrible starts like they were standing still?

They have raced one real race together so far (Cant count ironman as tomac was obviously putting around)

It was on a sand track and Herling's won.

Yes and if you aunt had a cock it would be your uncle.... if, if, if....

If you think Herlings has an ugly style I'll just remind you of this:
https://youtu.be/34qwHGiQ88I?t=55s

Tomac is fast with his wide open style taking outside lines but when it comes to riding technique Herlings' got him covered. They both have a different approach to riding a bike fast.

Selective memory. If Herlings had not crashed at the start of the same moto, he'd have won going away.

Pls stop with that, i can say the same about the Herlings fans...

Yes this is why ET is one of the best SX rider i guess...

Tomac vs Herlings at Daytona could give the answer but unfortunately, it will never happen...

Edit : I forget a fact : Tomac 2018 is way better than Tomac 2017.

Actually no.

Herlings did a 1:59.400 in the warm up.

Tomac is a badass mutha trucker, no one's denying that. I was simply disputing the logic of citing the one single example in about ten where he had a faster lap time than Herlings last year.

Ironman no matter what Tomac did made you realize just how fast Herlings was.

I never seen Marvin ride over his head so much in my life, just to try to stay with him, even that wasn't enough.

After watching Herlings struggle his first year in MXGP the first few rounds and not come up with any excuses I became a fan.

Unfortunately the guy is making MXGP boring to watch, he is typically gone within the first ten minutes.

I can't wait to watch him and Eli battle (I hope its a battle) in October.

Did you actually watch the first moto of the USGP? It was all about the start. Starts count, sure, but Herlings started outside the top 10 and was never in contact with the lead. You're making it sound as if they raced head to head or Tomac ran Herlings down. Speaking of that ...

"Cant count ironman as tomac was obviously putting around"

Right. Tomac won the holeshot in the first moto at Ironman, and Herling blew by him same as he used to blow by the MX2 field, same as he blows by the MXGP field now. Tomac crashed trying to respond. Those are the real facts.

Now, we can agree that Tomac played it safe in the second moto -- fair enough, I would've too -- but Herlings' charge from 39th was still a pretty impressive run. Let's say it all again: "Dropped in on short notice, borrowed bike, never seen the circuit before, won both motos." Show me someone else pulling that stunt. Anybody!

It is amazing to me that people still make excuses for the entire AMA field at Ironman '17, but here we are. At RedBud -- after Herlings wins his qualifying race and two motos -- it'll be more of the same, I guess.

You might want to go re-watch , and pay close attention to Ironman last year. Musquin was reeling Jeffrey in before he went down. In the other moto Marv's lap times were not only faster ( yeah I know , clear track ) But crashed again with a 10 second lead.

Think about it......Marv usually get's his ass handed to him by Eli. At that race , Eli was trying to wrap up a championship. Some of you that think Eli can't run with Jeffrey.....are going to be in for a shock come MXoN's. In fact , my money is on Eli if they start together. I don't think some of you comprehend the speed's that dude is carrying right now.

They were basically the same speed. I can't remember the last time Marvin marched Eli's speed on a motocross track. All the evidence suggest Tomac was playing it safe for the title that day at Iron Man. Herlings is a fantastic rider but some of you aren't giving Tomac the respect he deserves.
Shhhh. People dont wanna hear any of that or how him n Tomac split motos last year on a track neither have ridden at USGP or that Anderson beat him the year before at MXON when we actually sent good riders then him and Cooper Webb split motos at Charlotte on a completely neutral track. People just wanna say hes completely undefeated against all Americans because of that 1 Ironman race. Hes an incredible rider, hes not perfect.

Thanks a lot.

Tomac looks more stronger and harder. Without his crash at Thunder Valley and SX (Not his fault), he doesn't break a bone at all. Incredible when we see his attack and the number of races in USA.

Herlings has a good surgeon. I advise you guys if you need surgery in Europa :

Now, we can agree that Tomac played it safe in the second moto -- fair enough, I would've too -- but Herlings' charge from 39th was still a pretty impressive run. Let's say it all again: "Dropped in on short notice, borrowed bike, never seen the circuit before, won both motos." Show me someone else pulling that stunt. Anybody!

It is amazing to me that people still make excuses for the entire AMA field at Ironman '17, but here we are. At RedBud -- after Herlings wins his qualifying race and two motos -- it'll be more of the same, I guess.

What's your excuse for Marvin running the same pace as Herlings in both motos then? When's the last time you saw Marvin run the same pace as Tomac?
