FAENZA (ITALY), 29 March 2009 – The 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship starts today at Faenza, Italy, and once again Youthstream and FIM welcome another World Championship season.

During the conference it was also announced that a new European series dedicated to 2 stroke 125cc bikes will be organized together with the World MX1 and MX2 Championships in a total of six/seven events starting in 2010.

Giuseppe Luongo, the Youthstream President, stated: “The 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship continues to grow, we will continue to invest on the television production, on the infrastructures, on the promotion, on the comfort for the riders, the teams and the spectators. We have realized everything which was promised. The TV production will have the live on board camera and the jimmy jib, the new pit lane is set up, the Pit Lounge is fully operational and the many other improvements can be already seen in the venue. The Championship will be broadcast online live and free of charge with Freecaster.tv. In 2010 we will start the new 125cc 2 stroke UEM European Championship in six/seven events together with the MX1 and MX2 series. This will help the young riders and their families to reduce the costs.”

AMA who? A 125cc 2stroke classe to keep costs down? What a novel idea.

It causes me actual, physical pain to admit that the European motocross organizing body is so superior to ours that they're probably going to wind up with a better series within a few years. Things are going to go full circle, and tomorrow's US stars are going to mimic Brad Lackey and Jim Pomeroy and go over to Europe to race.
