Talking to Ron Hamp he said 70 at the crank is the most he has ever built. But that was for flat track racing.
Just over 70 @ the rear wheel every thing dlc coated special cam shaft larger port cross sections very loud pipe mr 12 fuel power was nothing you could use for mx or flat track required shifting to keep it in the power .the power spiked @ 6000 rpm and went up @ a very steep angle it was used for beach racing .

12 year old info still accurate here? Wondering how much HP a YZ250 with PC mods can get up to?

55? or more?

Pretty sure stock they're putting out around 48 these days. Mine was ported, head-modded, reeds, pipe, cryo-rem transmission and with race gas had to be somewhere around 51. I don't really know as I never had it put on a dyno, but I can tell you it was almost uncontrollable third gear and up for my goon riding amateur dumb ass.

btw -- bike was 46 hp stk on my dyno.   post is here somewhere on vital about the build-- decade ago though...

I always wondered what the Factory 250's in '05 were getting. They had to be getting close to 60hp (probably around 57-60) range. But having to rebuild them every time they went out.

Who was the rider? 57 seems pretty high for a YZ. I have seen that number on a Husqvarna TC250 carbed from a Dutch tuner. It was broad and usable but still a bit too fast.

Ben Toye. He was still an intermediate rider at the time.

I think Bondi Engines was the company doing his engines back then. Canadian company.

It's almost like the 1999 yz250 engine is one of the best 250 2-stroke designs ever!

Oh yes no doubt it is! I love the Yamaha 2 strokes, especially the chassis feels really comfortable but I wish their gearboxes were stronger as they wear out quickly, for the YZ250 it’s mostly the 3rd gear

Factory YZs were in the 52-55 range. 55 being very unlikely even. They have/had broad power with very usable torque.

That engine character is why the base hasn't been changed in 25 years (well, among other reasons). People talk about how KTMs have more power and this and that... Well first off the carb'd KTMs make 1-2 hp more peak to peak at best and are less friendly ride. The fuel injected models make less power, though barely anyone wants to admit that.
