If you could buy any helmet right now, which would it be?

Im looking for a new helmet and I am into Bell moto 9 flex.. but speaking to a friend whos got one, he wracked his visor the second time running the helmet, and he cant get a hold of a new visor anywhere. Living in europe it seems impossible. I did find some visors on ebay but just in two colors and not the one hes looking for. Is it easy to buy Bell spare parts in US?

Maybe will go with 6D insteed if there is trouble finding spareparts for Bell.
Contact PSE Parts.

I can't say which one of these helmets are better because I can't find any data specifically proving the 6d performs better than the Bell. It may perform 10x better but without a proper comparison it's just marketing.
You won't find that kind of data. It's just not legal. VW can't just make an ad saying that they're cars are better than Mercedes, even if they had the data to prove it. You'd have to buy both and get them tested at a lab yourself.

I was talking about research on physics, what causes brain injuries, how exactly the different systems work. Sure, that takes a lot of time, but my health was always worth a couple of hours of research and a couple of 100$ more to me. It makes me a lot more confident knowing what these helmets actually do.
If you explained how the Bell had a physical chance of working better, there's no chance that I'd stick with the 6D.

It's not that hard to get knowledge on these topics. But everybodys got to decide for themselves how much they want to rely on others opinions for their health, or actually do the research.

Whatever the top of the line Shoei makes, but I haven't been the hemet market for 10 plus years ?. But I've never had anything but Shoei when I rode.

I would choose something that's Snell M2015 certified. There aren't many; here's the complete list including street and snow helmets: https://www.smf.org/certlist/std_M2015 (I plan to post the mx-only helmets as a separate post.)

The Snell standard is clearly the best linear-impact rating with the goal of preventing death (somewhere between 200g to 400g brain acceleration). The other prominent design theory is preventing concussions (limiting slower impacts to 60g to 120g), but there is no test standard or certification for this. 6D and Leatt both appear to be designing to this. Interestingly, neither one is Snell M2015 rated. Of course they're both DOT rated, but the lack of Snell certifications indicate how difficult it is to have a helmet designed for preventing both death from the hardest impacts and preventing concussions from lesser impacts. Leatt publishes independent test data on all their helmets. 6D gives some test information. Another recent theory is rotational impacts, which 6D and MIPS helmets aim to address (the MIPS website also has a list of all MIPS helmets).

I recommend reading the Snell Foundation's website. The Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute's website at helmets.org also has good information.

Whatever you choose wear, please be informed and demand to see the test data. Rather than just asking Vital...

This is just my opinion (and 6D:s too) but anyone looking for a MX helmet should actively look at buying a helmet without Snell rating.
I totaly agree. Smell helmets are just too stiff and too heavy for moto. It’s an antiquated test and there’s a reason almost nobody makes a snell rated helmet anymore.

Why would anyone not want the Snell M2015 rating? An impact at 17.3 mph not exceeding 275g acceleration seems like a good idea to Arai, Bell, EVS, Fly, FXR, Helmet Solutions, HJC, LS2, O’Neal, Shoei, and Troy Lee Designs.

By that same logic, would you not want the ECE rating (16.8 mph not exceeding 275g)?
Or the DOT rating (13.4 mph not exceeding 400g)?

Achieving these impact ratings does not prove the same helmet would fail a lesser acceleration threshold at a slower impact. The Snell M2015 certification does not mean the helmet doesn’t also prevent concussions.

I wear glasses when I ride so I am limited with goggles that suit. I am currently wearing oakley o2's. I bought a Fly F2 carbon helmet and unfortunately it has a very small eye port that does not allow my goggles to fit snug against my face so dust would get in and leave my eyes dry and sore. My wife also had this problem with her F2 and ended up getting some Scott goggles which fit the helmet but are too small to go over my glasses
I went to my local shop and tried on a heap of helmets and this M2R is what I decided on. Really light weight, fits like a glove and on the bike I can hardly notice it.
Another thing I noticed with the Fly was that it seemed to catch wind really bad, the M2R seems to let the breeze pass straight over it. I'm stoked with it
