Is his campaign slogan - "I'm always right, dummy!" ?
Or maybe - "I know everything. Seriously, just ask me." ?

Have you ever cast a vote for a independent that won?

All Independents do is take votes away from other candidates. Probably how the current POTUS won, who needs the Russians? Good job!

There are a lot more than 179 that vote in the OC....just not many that would support Cox and his views.

Final numbers. Big list of candidates. Might be a good idea to continue the desire to serve, but perhaps run for a more local office first.

You are right...it was 533.

I’m just kidding about the Motoheads voting. If he was in my district he wouldn’t have gotten my vote...he’s a little nutty. Plus the love Cox slogan really sucks

14th is a pretty solid finish for a privateer. Good for him.

I give Steve props for getting off his ass and doing something that he believes in. It's obvious the system is broken and sitting around bitching about it on the internet sure as hell won't change anything.

I’m not sure but it must be a form of Independent party. I’m just in here winging it, someone who knows the system needs to chime in.

Believe that's the same party Jill Stein represented in the 2016 Presidential race

I would agree with that statement. How do you get people to start paying attention and stop voting against their own best interests?

I don't know about you but I'm tired of holding my nose and voting for the lesser of two evils. When it takes a hundred million dollars to run for office and the supreme court allows it I'd say the system is broken.

The problem isn't the voters the problem is the politicians that control the parties. Literally, if you are an upstanding independent thinking person with integrity (like Cox but level headed) you wouldn't be able to get a foot hold in the parties. They weed out good people before they can make a name for themselves and act independent of the party line. The only way to buck the party and get around them is to make enough noise yammering platitudes that appeal to the extreme tendencies of the base. So you are left with running as an independent without party support or money. So you also have to be very rich.

I doubt the Moto heads voted for him. Believe it or not, there are people who go and vote for the lowest/ worst candidate as a sympathy vote. Blush

It's really hard to campaign effectively without being rich. First off, you need to not have to work. You also have to hire people, pay for offices and supplies, advertisement, policy people, etc. Regular good people don't have those type of resources. Honest wealthy people would have little incentive to enter into politics. The are a million other things they could do. So what we get are shady rich weird people who run that are out to take advantage and/or boost their ego.

Yeah, because one party better suites them than the other. I think party registration is like 30% for each though. The problem is there are no good alternatives. When has there been a reasonable independent option?

All of the independent options are better than the Rs and Ds.
