Spotted on a friend Joel Fonder's Facebook page about 6 time world champion Joel Robert had suffered a stroke whilst on holiday in France.
Here's the update, been translated from French:

"tell your readers that Joël goes well", Explains Josiane, his companion." But I confess that I had very afraid for him. Two weeks ago that we séjournons in the south of France, we rest in the house of one of my son. This is last Thursday that Joël noticed that his left leg would not support very well. We are when same gone to the market of castel-Sarrazin. Here, I saw that he had less of mobility in the left arm. On the way home, I asked the neighbour to give us the address of her doctor. She replied that he had to go directly to emergencies, that the problem was probably much more serious and it has led us until then."

It is as well as Joël was found at the centre Hospitalier de Montauban. "it has been taken in charge of a very effective", Note Josiane. " very quickly, it has undergone a magnetic resonance test and the doctors have diagnosed two stroke. They have also noticed the footsteps of two accidents of the same type that go back to several years. But it is going well. It moves only to go to the bathroom, he has no legacy in the face. It has already begun kiné sessions to recover the normal use of his leg and his left arm."

Please add Joel to your prayers and post well wishes on here, I will forward onto his friends and companion Josiane!

(Funny who the translation of "the stroke" = two strokeWink Smile Joel always was a braap man!Laughing

The guy was God when I got into moto in 1970; RD hadn't yet arrived and Hallman was winding down. All the best to him.

Rumor had those first works 250s, the gp bikes, weighing under 170 lbs with more power than anything in the class.

The bike that started the mandatory weight crap.

Joel was my first moto hero - until he didn't ride the Puyallup Trans-AMA - 72 or so - rumor was he didn't feel like it. He was the reason I went - crushed that little boy.

Sure loved his style.

HE is another that someone needs to write an autobiograpphy - what a book that would be. I'd love to hear those stories but am afraid they will be lost before long like so many others

Here are some news of Joël Robert. He becomes old and he seems weakened by the multiple strokes. Last january he was invited to the opening a new restaurant in the building where he had his motorcycle shop in early 80s in Chatelet (Belgium). He talked about his past. You can see the video, in french, after the ad:

Man, what a legend.

I wonder what kind of training he actually did, and if he ever stopped smoking. He does look pretty fit in some of those photos, especially the one where he is sitting on the bike with a leading link front end (a greeves?)

if a rider now lit a fag and and took a couple of drags while listening to the questions from the interviewer on the podium the moto related Internet would be down for a week.

Hoping for a quick and full recovery.
