OK Guy's,

My friend just left me this Husky 250, I'm not a Husky Guru.

More of a Maico \Cz guyl

But here's what I do know, it's a 6 speed 250, I think it's a 81/82 model with a 17" rear wheel.

At one time the front forks & the silencer were gold. as well as the rims.

I can't find the S/N tag or any stamping other than one on the frame & it's only 7 number & no letters?

Any help in identifying would be appreciated, I need to get it fixed up & sold.

If I was a betting person, it looks like a 1980 model based off the swing-arm and shock placement. In 1981 Husky placed the shocks on the side of the swing-arm to create a mild rising rate suspension system. In 1980 they rear shock were on top. And they came stock w/Ohlins too both years. I hope this helps?

nice catch! I'd also post it on the vintage husky groups on facebook if your on there. I'm not super versed on that gen husky but anniebertmojo seems accurate. Nice aftermarket tank, was once a loved desert, offroad sled for sure

Paw Paw,

I was planing on doing that this morning,

But the Friend that gave me the Husky said to grab my modern Bike & meet him at Rio Bravo for some fun.

I couldn't refuse, Beside I need seat time.

I'll try & get it posted up at Cafe Husky, Already have an account from when I help another friend get his Husky up & running.

cafehusky is a great place to start. Looks like an aftermarket desert tank. The pipe looks like a 1980 model

Here is a 1980 bike if this helps

and my PC 250 - 1981 (it's an all original PC bike. It's been mine since I got it and when I was supported by PC. There's a funny story behind the white fork sliders I'll explain one day)

Thanks for the picture! from looking at the pic I can see that the air-box & pipe is the same & the of the forks above triples tell me that it's a 1980 250.

It's has a 3 wire Motoplat, Black,Blue & yellow. So I'm amusing it might be a XC?

BTW:

We probley raced together if you raced CMC, but not the same class, as in 81 I was on a 490 Maico.

Yep... Saddleback Saturday and CMC Sunday's (Saddleback or Carlsbad) - CMC Sondra and I grew up at the track. She did sign in and I raced. Were still friends to this day. Actually Gary Richter (who owned Wheesmith back in the 80's) gave me my 1st job as a kid cleaning pipes and shipping parts. When Payton found out (I was being supported by PC then) he hired me. He said your riding for me and now working for me lol...

I've only kept 1 bike in my life and it's my full PC Husky CR250 that I rode back in the day. I met a lot of people back then who are still my good friends today. Heck a lot of my enemies who I hated at the track were good buds now and we race REM together on a regular basis. We still bang into each other in the corners and cut each other off as much as we can, but instead of saying F-You... we laugh and say that was pretty fun.

Long time no see H! That Husky... This one looks like it had the frame loop cut off. 1980 I think started the swept up frame and seat. Old style kick lever. Could be old as a 77 I think. Good luck...

If its original engine maby you could search by enginenumber? Guess you have search on Vintage Husky?

Unfortunately the engine tag is gone, probley when that sandblasted the engine to paint it Silver.

Frame number is there but no letters to tell me if it's a Cr, Wr or Xc.

Also looks like the kick start is from a different model, doesn't tuck in very well & is putting a grove in the case where the rubber stop should be.

Tank is Plastic & will be for sale soon.

my guess is 79 based on frame and airbox, found these pics on google(not 100% on accuracy tho) and like oldmxracer said loop is cut.

First is 78 and second is 79

It looks like the PO swapped out the Ohlins for S&W shocks which is a giant step backwards and will be $$$ to correct.

I've got the shocks covered, Marty Tripes gave me a few sets of Ohlins remote piggy backs that need to be rebuilt.

They were going to go on a friends Honda, But he quit riding So I inherited them.

If I remember right they are 17" eye to eye.

If I remember right they are 17" eye to eye.
That's great. Suspension is the single biggest expense on these bikes. I have a 79 RM 250 that is mechanically ready but for the suspension.

In the flesh my friend. I surf through here every now and then. Been outa the saddle 7 years now. I'm done. Mending up from a double knee replacement 6 weeks ago and enjoying the grandkids. Howard, Its a 1980 husky cr250 ,35mm forks, swing arm,and frame ,the 1979 frame is different,they used the same swing arm in 79/80,same frame in 80/81,different swing arm in 1981 shocks mounted on low as other person said.In 1981 husky cr250 had wider hole spacing on cylinder studs and bigger ports,bigger shafts in transmission.I've got a 1980cr with a 1981 motor.I put on 1981 40mm forks and triple clamps on mine .Howard you know me ,I live in New Caney,I'm Fred Hall.You always make fun of me in some way!

Yes I know you! You know that when I make fun of you it’s just two old. Racers having a little fun with each otherSmile

I did check the spacing of the cylinder studs & it look to be a 79’ motor.

I still need to find a manual, I have the timing spec’s but not much else.

This is going to be a long term project, unless someone buys it from me soon.

You get tired of working on those Maicos Big H :-) :-) You've got a CR frame for sure(floating brake) Brother is into Husky these days, not sure how many he has but know he has some primo Mags and a '81 430CR that is off the charts. Love the Huskys, rock solid bikes....riding the '87 Husky 250XC at Jays race this weekend to check it out before tear into it full bore, plan is for it to be the AHRMA CC ride

Gang,

I think I got the Motoplat working, it was a mess of spliced wires!

I just need the proper kick starter, Already searched Evil-Bay with no luck.

Please keep an eye out for one for me.

Nuke the motosplat because it WILL FAIL on you.
The late Dane Leimbach used to run the motoplat/pvl division at KTM here in Lorain and i got to see how he tested motoplats when they fail.

Ohio,

Trust me I know about Motoplats, I have about 6 good ones for my Maico.

But I don’t think my internal rotor Motoplats will work on a Husky.

I might buy a new Ignition, if I keep the Husky after the restore.

I got laid off a year ago & $$ is real tight right now, so It’s a low budget restore for now.

Sorry to reboot an old post, but I still need a little help!

Just got back on my feet after a BIG tree smacking digger & I'm finely getting back to working on the old Husky !

Got the the bottom end seals changed & new top end on the bike, just need a few more details.

I need the timing specs & the base jetting specs for the carb & Cafe Husky is off line right now.

It might be a long shot...I bet if you call PC, Payton has them. I was there about a month ago and he was porting an old Honda cylinder. He had all the porting specs scribbled out on paper that he pulled out of an old Anaheim Husky folder. I gave him a bad time for that... lol.
