I have a question that I know someone on here has tried or knows the answer to. Is it possible to retro fit a set of OEM Yamaha wheels from a 2012 YZ450f to a 2005 YZ 250 two stroke? A couple of people here verified that the '09 and up f models have a larger axel and larger bearing circumference than the '05 250 two stroke. However, couldn't you put bearings with the outside diameter to fit the larger hub diameter with a smaller diameter inner that would accept the slightly smaller axels for the 250 two stroke? If so, does it change the safety, handling or anything you can think of? The market just has so much more to choose from with the newer YZ 250/450f market. Thanks for the help in advance!

look into rocky mountain spacers they use with their new tusk wheels, pretty sure they are specked for the new 4 stroke but they uses their special spacers to spec to the old 4/2 strokes......better yet buy their complete wheel set, worth lookin into.

you could try to spec bearings I guess....

OK, I will look into that as I was thinking along the same lines. I just wonder you can get them for OEM hubs. Really curious to actually hear from some one who has attempted/done it as there are so many people that use this site. Surely there is someone out there!? Thanks for the responses. Keep 'em coming.

A lot of parts dont match up if you try the switch. Well, a complete switch is fine, the mix and match is a pita. You've got the brake carrier to deal with as well as the chain adjust blocks. You'll figure out the parts you need as you go along.

It might be easier to just add the 2009 swingarm. YZ250f or 450f. I believe we determined they were the same. It bolts right on. You can use either the older linkage, or the 09 linkage. The entire set up is lighter and there will be no adapters needed. I found a brand new arm for my yz 250 and have used it for years. I used the 09 arm, 2010 brake assembly, and 2009 hub. Obviously the axle hardware and chain adjust blocks, too.

Is it better? Sure, I suppose. I'm not really at the ability to be able to say much, but its cool.

Someone with good machining skills could make the older parts accept the large diameter axle.

Dude ,that is a great idea! I don't know what I was thinking. That really is easier than all of the other stuff! What about the front? Just bearings since it uses pinch bolts?

I went with the swingarm swap... direct bolt-on to an '11 model.

I would give that a try first. Both bikes share the same Tusk wheels (formerly Richter), only the spacers change. It might be worth a try to order a set of their 2 stroke spacers and see if they fit on the stock wheel. They're about $7 if I recall correctly.

That is perfect. How did you do the front wheel?

The front wheels interchange up to 2013. The 2014 4T front axle is bigger.

I remember making this same comment a while back when you put this picture up in another thread...but I felt like I need to say it again: "good lord you look like you have a lot of fun! I see badass toys everywhere I look in the picture of your shop."

I'm really wanting to see some more pics of the sprint car. Sprints have to be my absolute favorite type of car racing.

Thanx guys...

I mostly ride at the Club57 training compound at Motosports Park, sometimes the Legacy track, as well as Walnut and KI Tracks.

I did the swingarm, linkage and caliper bracket swap. Everything bolts right up. Lose 3 pounds in the process.

Hello, I have a question about my 2012 Yamaha yz450f. I just recently put a new hub and spokes on and the shop I get to true it and torque them told me the wheel is bent and he couldn’t do anything with it. I found a wheel for a 2001 yz250. My question is can’t I take my hub and spokes and spoke it up to the 250 wheel? Will the hub holes line up with the holes on the yz250 wheel? Thanks in advance.
