Gameplay might be a little fast. I don't know since I don't have much experience with the MXGP series. Only played the first MXGP for a short amount of time.
I say if you don't mind dealing with the issues mentioned, get it and hope that Milestone releases a patch to fix them.
On the other hand you might want to wait and see if the issues are fixed first before parting away with your $70.
Personally I think it's just an average game. It's not bad but in it's current form it's not great. 7/10.
1. The start is just stupid. Shifting into gear when you take off is dumb.
2. I just tried starting my career and ended up stuck on the menu screen with no way to exit except for closing the application. Also, what is with sponsors just completely changing the bike's appearance? You couldn't even tell what brand the bike was.
3. The AI sucks ass and is just completely dumb. They all take the exact same lines and stay bunched up in a big pack. Not sure why they can't seem to fix that issue as it was like that in all of the MXGP games as well.
4. The load times. My god, the load times. It just took the game at least a full minute to load the fucking options from the main menu.
I think the game has a really solid base and some patches will go a long way towards making it better, but I'm kind of surprised there wasn't a day one patch, which is pretty much the norm for games now. I think the gameplay is great and I'm glad we finally have a real game, but it needs quite a bit of polishing.
-Game looks really good and I like the detail in the tracks and stadiums
-Bikes/riders also look realistic and detailed
-The physics seem to be better than MXGP3 but i didn't play it long enough to tell a huge difference
-The AI riders are horrible, they bump you or get close to you and you lose a lot of momentum and/or crash, you absolute Friese them and they still make all the jumps and don't miss a beat. Land on top of them, they keep going.
-The clutch is almost worthless
-On the hardest settings the game is tough and I like that, the riders don't make mistakes and that makes it even harder
-No way to really separate yourself in rhythms, not saying they need a preload button but it would be nice to "try" different combos and have the ability to do things different than all the other riders
-I like that there is championship and career mode
-The track builder feature is cool, haven't tested it out too much but I like the option to build your own tracks
-Wish the bike setup made more of a difference, doesn't seem like going from one extreme to the other makes a huge difference
-Saw bikes phantom jumping jumps after making a big mistake
Overall I enjoy the game and like the features, looks wise they absolute killed it. I wish the game wasn't so finicky and they had a better menu system. Im going to keep playing and enjoying it for what it is.
Pit Row
I haven't played around with the track editor either but have seen enough videos to know it's a great feature. There's a lot of obstacles to choose from so it will take some trial and error to come up with tracks that make sense and have a good flow to them. I know I'll spend countless hours playing around with that feature when I get around to it.
Maybe wait a week or two before purchasing the game. By then maybe your local game store will have a lightly used copy so you'll save a bit of money. If fact call them up and ask them to let you know when someone brings in a used copy. They can put it aside for you. I've done that in the past.
Are you on PC or console? If on console which one? There's a Vital MX community/group on both consoles.
Should always have someone to play with now.
I really miss the glory days of mxonlinetournaments.com (2010-12ish was the best) and it would be cool to get something like that going again here...organized series, classes, etc., and the track editor would keep it interesting, for sure.
*edit: I think you added me there, MAVERICK
That’s cool there are 50 people in there...I have ZERO friends that play moto games so anyone else in there, add me! PSN: motoracer971
And on top of all that, the track editor made this game even worth getting alone. Can’t believe how good it turned out for their first crack at it. And it makes for unlimited tracks to race on.
I’m a die hard reflex guy and this is the most fun I’ve had in a long long time. Love it. Hopefully they sort out the first launch issues quick though. They do have their fair share, still worth the buy right now though.
