i already know i'm going to catch hell for this, but let me start by saying i love watching the WMA at the nationals, because it's some of the best racing of the day. that said, however, i feel there is no way fiolek, patterson, gieger and company could ever qualify for a national. i know a few women have tried (unsuccessfully), and that skill levels and equipment have imporoved, but i just got done looking at the lap times from top 5 at whitney (thanks, vurbmoto.com), and patterson had the best for women's expert class at 2.27.328. certainly not bad, i'm sure, but when i saw the best lap in the 50cc stock 7-8 year old class posted by jordan bailey was 2.27.879, it made me think, if the fastest woman at whitney has a lap time comparable to the best 50 rider (even if he is a phenom), there's just no shot at her making a national. btw, best times of the day by the pros were in the 2.11's. flame on...

That being said, I don't think any of the women are even close to the speed of the outdoor nationals qualifiers
I think the day is coming, there are some crazy fast girls coming thru the system and its only a matter of time.
also, i knew sue fish tried to qualify, but didn't think she made it...
Pit Row
In holland Marc posted a 2.10 lap time whilst Stephi laier was a 2.36 and Ashley on a 2.41.
Hardpack there was a 21 second difference and in sand a 26 second difference. thats not even in close unfortunateley.
The crucial margin is obviously that between the final qualifier in the mens, and the pole sitter in the womens and results on hardpack are considerably more encouraging. In Bulgaria Larissa Papenmier on 2.01 was 10 seconds off the final mens qualifier at 1.51 whereas in Holland the difference between final qualifier Ray Rowson on a 2.09 and Larrissa on a 2.29 was clearly double.
10 seconds sounds doable but its important to note that 7 men sat on a 1.51 lap time in bulgaria so the margins are very tight. Its unlikeley but who knows.
I stop-watched Fiolek last summer at Washougal, and she had lap times were just outside the top ten men in the consolation race.
you don't see female players mixing it up in the men's NBA league! or soccer or tennis or football or any other physical sport... let them have their own races... also things like sending some chicks to the MXoN on an IndoChina or PuertoRican Team makes our sport look unprofessional imo! You also don't see women on a men's team at the Olympics. screw that shit!
