As you can see in this pic, there is plenty of room for pipe clearance.

I'm checking carb clearance.
This is a 38mm Airstriker short bodied version.
I'm also testing a Standard body Airstriker as well as a Lektron.

Props on being able to do all this. Its one thing to do a bike build and another to do a custom one off. Bike looks awesome. I have an idea to throw out there to you. Since your going green, have you thought about making it look like an old school split fire bike? Since acerbis make the blue plastic for the ktm now, I think that would be pretty sick looking. I’m not saying make it retro but Just a thought

Thanks for the idea and posting that pic.
I will be doing some retro coloration on this bike but I don't want to give it up just yet.
Plus, I have not finalized the graphics just yet... but working on it Smile

No chance the Lectron will fit in there. The boot will push hard up against the shock.

Ya shosh anadized a couple cast parts. from what i could tell they came back like a matte color. It has something to do with the pores opening up during the anodizing process.

This is a pretty sweet build. Looking foreard to the finished bike!!
Yeah I Anodised a heap of stuff on my 125.
The pictures show all the black parts to be really dark grey and dry looking, but after assembly and giving it a wash it all came back solid black and if you give it a hit with some WD-40 they go a nice satin black colour like in the first picture of the assembled shock.

Cast stuff doesn't come out like billet stuff does because casting by nature is porous and so the treatment sort of soaks in whereas billet is basically solid and the anodising will have far less penetration and more saturation of colour. I wanted them to be matte/satin black but I didn't want to paint so I blast them with super fine crushed glass in my cabinet to take away the shine, the blue parts however I did want them to be bright so I polished them like mirrors but they still came out a bit dull, still looks nice. Black stuff is Class 3 Hard ano and the blue is standard hard ano which is one step up from the decorative coating that fades in the sun.

If the Lectron does not fit, that is just as well on this build as I really think the short bodied Airstriker is where I want to go....
But whether or not I use it I will still attempt to make it fit :-)

Yeah, a buddy of mine did black on his brake calipers on his 2010 KX450F and it turned the same color... Then again he did not spend as much time polishing them first as I did.
I think a better idea would be to use Cerakote and then clear it but that is a big guess until I do it Smile
I wonder how a clear Cerakote would work on the anodized parts?

Oh yeah... Look what showed up from the Anodizer

Blasted all that nasty orange pumpkin rine right off the parts and then sent them to Scot Schneider.
He took them to his good buddy Kenny at Precision Anodizing in Oklahoma City.
Here is a link to his Facebook page

https://www.facebook.com/Precision-Anod ... 585119272/

I had him try and match the color of a cooler I already had.
As you can see the parts turned out great!

Thanks Scot and Kenny.
I really appreciate it!

Definatly turned out nice! Cool color too.

I always liked the way slosh’s build turned out. The satin color went well with the bike.

P.S. My bad on my previous post with all the typos. I was in a hurry at the time.

Here is some other goodies I'm playing with for this build...

KX Guru Racing is testing this mod for Steve Parris at Parris Racing Concepts
His Facebook page is here:

https://www.facebook.com/steve.parris.399

Others have tried this mod before with varying degrees of success.
Dirt Bike magazine ran some tests on Steve's crank and they reported a nice increase in power on a smaller engine.
KX Guru Racing is testing and tuning for a KX500 on Sean Collier's (2016 National Two Stroke Championship winner on his KX500 "The Beast") so it may or may not work.
I'm betting that it will, especially in view of the case mods that MUST be made to make this modification work.
But, time will tell.

What exactly is that crank mod designed to do?

There are a couple of things it is suppose to do.
Provide additional lubrication for the rings.
Compress and direct a greater volume up the transfers.
The jets need to be richened..
That is what I have been told.
We will see when I get the engine assembled, broke in, jetted, and dyno'd Woohoo

That makes some sense...Can you post a picture of the case mods too?
Now if you're going to do that you may want to do this ... polish up those cases. It smooths out the power and make the bike pull cleaner/ harder.
..

Lol... Thanks... But I'll tell you something... I don't have any fancy tools. So far besides basic hand tools I have used a polishing wheels, a vice, Sawsall, C clamps, vice grips, tape measure, and a hand grinder. So if I can do it, most anyone else can too... If your thinking about something like this, I say go for it...

Using a Power Dynamo Ignition on this conversion will only require a new mounting bracket and a bit of trimming..

Al's Plating in Ft. Worth Tx, did it in 1 day $85
It certainly an option...

Gotta love the look of nickle, but ceramic coating will add performance as well. And looks almost as good.

BAM!!!

What do you know? Some back yard hack who lives in the middle of nowhere with a cool chassis is gonna get his bike in Motocross Action Magazine?
How does that work???

Now I'm gonna have to step up and really try to build a super cool bike Woohoo
But I have to do something with that ugly pipe...

As if being in MXA magazine isn't cool enough, Oscar our team manager told the editor Daryl Eklund about my buddies build which is a 2016 KTM 250SXF chassis with a CR500R build.
So the same chassis as my build but a CR500R Honda instead of a KX500 Kawasaki engine.
My buddy is Adam Millar who built the engine for the current Land Speed Streamer class using a CR500R engine.

Adam Millar's CR500R Land Speed Record holder.

Adam has taught me many things about the CR500R engine.
He has taught me so much that my first attempt to port a CR500R engine netted the owner of that engine a Championship in 2017 in the Open Outlaw Kart class.

Jason Tanner from JT Engine Works as well as a KX Guru Racing team member is in the front..

At first I thought doing a bike build off against Adam Millar in MXA would be a great idea....
But after the initial coolness wore off and I came to my senses I became a little worried Dizzy

After all... This is a build off that will be seen around the world.... Just how bad can I get trashed?
remember, I'm a hobbyist, not a professional like Adam Sad

Oh well, I'll give it my best shot and we'll see what happens Cool

I probably should not have sent Adam a picture of his bike VS where my bike is at....
