I have never heard a single person ever comment that they thought he would "clean out" James or Chad in his rookie season, nor have I ever said such a thing. And if you'll notice, Ryan himself has never said anything of the sort. He has stated all along that it was his goal this year to get as many podiums as he could. Where are people getting this "hype" crap that Villo was supposed to wax everyone in supercross this year?

The fact is that he DID dominate as a 250f rider. With the exceptions of his rookie season in supercross, and this last one when he was INJURED (and I don't give a rat's ass if any aholes think that is some kind of excuse) he won every single series and MXDN he entered. But I guess you're right. Mitch should have let him share more of those championships.

I think anyone who doubts RV at this point in his career is a friggin' idiot! He's on a path to greatness no matter if you like him or not. I don't know if he'll ever beat any of RC's records , but i will bet money that he has made it into the record books as one of the best MX racers of all time , when he's done. He's young , and just getting started in the premier class....give him some time. And least of all.....wait until the outdoors! Him , M.A. and a couple others are gonna be fuggin haulin' the mail!

Hey DSteg222, I worked F-16s at Nellis (Las Vegas) from '81 to '83. We had exercises there called "Red Flag". I thought the Navy's equivalent to that was called "Top Gun" out of Miramar or am I all mixed up?

Yeah.. you are a little mixed up

Top Gun is a fighter training school that is operated year round with classes lasting 6 weeks There are 12 flight crews per class. The fighting is all done within the Top Gun school with only Top Gun pilots. Specific pilots from fighter squadrons are selected based on time in type and various other measuring criteria.

Red Flag is a single war-game training event that has far more than just the Airforce participating. The AF bascially defends Nellis against all sorts of aircraft. If you were really there then you would have seen aircraft from all services landing and from all kinds of countries. NATO participation is big at Red Flag. Our squadron actually hosted and flew with Canadians out of NAS Fallon. It is very realistic, and if you get shot down you dont get to play anymore, just like in real life!!

In a typical Red Flag exercise, Blue Forces (friendly) engage Red Forces (hostile) in realistic combat situations. Blue Forces are made up of units from Air Combat Command, Air Mobility Command, United States Air Forces Europe, Pacific Air Forces, the Air National Guard, U.S. Air Force Reserve, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, the Canadian Air Force as well as other allied air forces. They are led by a Blue Forces commander, who coordinates the units in an "employment plan". Red Forces (adversary) are composed of the 57th Wing's 57th Adversary Tactics Group, flying F-16s (64th Aggressor Squadron) and F-15s (65th Aggressor Squadron) to provide realistic air threats through the emulation of opposition tactics. The Red Forces are also augmented by U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps units flying in concert with the 507th Air Defense Aggressor Squadron's electronic ground defenses and communications, and radar jamming equipment. The 527th (Active Duty) and 26th (Reserve) Space Aggressor Squadrons also provide GPS jamming. Additionally, the Red Force command and control organization simulates a realistic manual integrated air defense system. So... yeah... a bit different and just a tad mixed up.. Wink

There were two wings at Nellis when I was there, the 474th and the 57th (who were the bad guys you are talking about). I was in the 474th. I definitely remember all the planes coming in from all of our allies but I don't remember the other services being involved. I'm sure that's just my memory failing though. I do remember Red Flag not being much fun for me as a Crew Chief because it was 12 hour shifts turning and burning. I spent 3 years in Germany after that (F-4) doing the NATO thing. Then to Myrtle Beach for 6 years on A-10s (did the Gulf War thing in '90-'91 in Saudi with the A-10s). After the Gulf War I decided to retrain into computer programming. Smile

Red Flag was not fun for the crews... that I remember. Fighter guys had it good... the flying was incredible. The ACM was insane and the attacks on Nellis were out right hair pullers. Planes everywhere and if you were off your mark by 5 seconds... Watch The Fuck Out... you were going to be shrapnel.

I was with VFA81 in the gulf War in 90-91.. The Sara pulled out just after the invasion of Kuwait. Was on the first flights inbound the first night... nothing could prepare for that.. nothing!

Thanks for your service... could not have gotten the jets for us dirt bags off the ground without you guys!!

All this talk about flying..How about you two take a .50 cal sniper rifle 25 miles by foot with one canteen of water and some crackers in your flak jacket and blow off someones head from 700 yards away.. Then hightail back to a pick up zone to find that the helo pilots was too much of a god damn pussy to land his ch so we could get the hell out of there only to be left on the ground with about 200 enemy soldiers hunting you like a wild animal.You pilots do your job and I give ya that but nobody ever wants to say anything about the ground pounders, the grunts, the Infantry! Im not talking shit we choose what we want to be and Pilots (jet fighters) have saved my and my mens asses more than once...

Yeah, I went in to King Fahd about 2 weeks after the Kuwait invasion. Matter of fact I passed up the 82nd airborne in Spain. Smile When I got there I put up the 4th tent and when I left I think there were over 50,000 troops there. I was scared shitless being one of the first ones there and not even having been issued an M16 yet. All I had was a 4 cell Mag light to defend myself for the first week. Smile We built up for 6 months and then I volunteered to go to our FOL at King Kahlid about a week before the war started. I spent the entire war there about 20 miles south of the Kuwait Iraq border and turned the first A-10 into combat. I remember the planes coming in from King Fahd and we filled them up with fuel on their way in on the first wave. Those guys were definitely hyped up.


Regarding the software stuff just like the military we're in different services. I don't do anything Microsoft (by choice). It's all Linux/UNIX. In the Air Force I actually started as a FORTRAN programmer on mainframes working in a weather shop writing weather programs. We got some UNIX systems in and I got more into administration/engineering. I had actually done a lot of programming as a hobby prior to doing it for the AIr Force starting back in the Commodore 64 days then PC. I was pretty good with Turbo Pascal and Borland C.


Then with the Air Force learned Assembly, COBOL, Ada, FORTRAN, SAS, CLIST, PV-Wave, ARC/INFO and more. Now I do a mix of administration, C, Perl/Shell scripting and some web development (Perl, PHP, on Linux/Apache/MySQL). I did the Microsoft thing from the first DOS version through NT4 and just learned to hate it with a passion. I actually had my own business building and selling Linux based network monitoring systems for a while in the early 2000s.

To respond to the original question of this post before it turned into a combat zone with f 15 and snipers Smile Yes I think RV will be the next guy.. His outdoors skills are pretty much unmatchable on a lites bike, he has some sx lites championships and came into the supercross class winning his first heat .. Since then hes put in some great rides and is one of the few to even pass stewart back after he was passed.. RV is not scared to battle hes confident and it shows.. Outdoors will be epic this year with RV , Allessi, Short,Ferry to name a few and hopefully we see bubba,reed, and kdub come out for some nationals.We could sit here and talk down a rider but get real these guys work there asses off and you cant compare one rider to the other there all different they have different work ethic and maybe train differently. Supercross is actually getting exciting now we still have like half a seaon to go and then the whole outdoors under Mxsports and all the great televised shows we are gonna get..

Most of the Naval pilots are pricks -- they have huge egos and think they are better than everyone else. I got into a verbal dispute with a pilot and the moment I called him a dumbass his eyes changed and he flipped out. It was like he could not handle being called a dumbass. Of course when I saw his reaction I had to call him a dumbass one more time.

His outdoors skills are pretty much unmatchable on a lites bike, he has some sx lites championships and came into the supercross class winning his first heat .. Since then hes put in some great rides and is one of the few to even pass stewart back after he was passed.. RV is not scared to battle hes confident and it shows.. Outdoors will be epic this year with RV , Allessi, Short,Ferry to name a few and hopefully we see bubba,reed, and kdub come out for some nationals.We could sit here and talk down a rider but get real these guys work there asses off and you cant compare one rider to the other there all different they have different work ethic and maybe train differently. Supercross is actually getting exciting now we still have like half a seaon to go and then the whole outdoors under Mxsports and all the great televised shows we are gonna get..

RV will be fine. Having Alessi, Grant and hopefully Hill, Short, Millsaps, Tedesco, Hepler; hopefully SH105...... this just might be one epic Outdoor season.
