MXA says biggest class is the 50 year olds

Thats interesting because when I used to race the 125c was by far the biggest class. Now it looks like all the old guys are the biggest class. Is MX getting smaller. Any input on this idea?

I raced 125cc, when I started, now in the 50+ class...

AT SRA as well, we have about 40 entries in the 50+ class.

Our biggest classes, are the Vet. (30+) and Senior (40+)
Our 125cc class, has (usually), about five entries.

we are for the older generation, we hate kids !!! (I kid)

The 50 year old class is the biggest at REM is what MXA is saying. REM is an institution in CA and it's amazing that the same people that were racing REM at Carlsbad 25 years ago are still racing today. These racers, including Jody and his gang, rarely venture out to other tracks or races.

How many of the 50+ guys were the old 125C riders back in the day and have now come back? My guess is most of them.

In Mn. there are lots of registered +50 yr olds, maybe 30-40, but not everyone shows up each weekend. Only the top riders seem to show consistently and of course they would be at the top at the end of the race even of there were 40 guys on the line.

Also we just added +55 and +60 classes so that should be interesting as well! I am over 55 but race the 40, 45 and 50 yr old classes and sometimes end up riding with +25 or 30 B depending on how many are in the old man class that day/double drops etc.

Our 125 2 stk class only has 2-5 riders a weekend but the 250f/250 2 stk C class if always full with several heats.

All the Vet classes are growing and guys like 49 yr old Tommy Benolkin are still fast to this very day.

More kids will be racing BMX. Look how expensive bikes are these days. We can travel all over the world racing BMX for less than buying and setting up just one race bike. The price of bikes is just ridiculous.

A 1978 RM125 was about $900.00 out the dealer door. Teenagers would work summer jobs and buy a bike to race.

MX is the cheapest form of motorized racing.

These are all the guys that got into MX when it was first getting popular....plus its part of the baby boomers generation so there are many around....and lol I do agree they are the only one's that can afford to race now

Motocross has been shrinking for many years. A local race in the 70's had more riders than most "big" races today.

I spent the night (Saturday) in my trailer at Glen Helen...It was packed for Sondra's CMC race. Probably 300 rigs in the pits !


Drove up 395, and Competitive Edge, was packed.

MX has gone thru 2 cycles since I started in 74.The mid 70,s it was huge here then tapered off as bike tech progressed at a rate that made you have to buy each year to keep up.Wtaercooling and suspension drove this.Then again in mid late 80's as tech had stabilized and you could race a bike a few years.

Maybe that 2nd surge are now 40-50 like me(46)and are living it again.

People ask me what am I going to do when I'm 70 and cant walk.

Who wants to be all preserved and walking great at 70?You are 70 fer christ sake,I want to ride a scooter in the store and be bottle feed(whiskey)by a young milf in a nurse uniform.
