Loved his outlook on the sx demographic.
Whats going on in the stands vs who is going to spend money on the industry.

That is a great interview - I think it helped that TP was away from the track, made the conversation a little more expansive.

Bravo Preston, Bravo......

What really bugs you in the sport right now?
What bugs me is the stupid girls. They’ve got these girls everywhere now with their butts hanging out, walking around everywhere. I thought motocross was a family sport. I thought that the guy that buys a motorcycle is a guy that owns his own business and stuff. They’re going for the 19 year old Metal Mulisha guy that rides a ’02 Yamaha. They’re going for that guy and I don’t know if that’s the group you want to go for.
I was actually sitting in the stands this week and was blown away by how many people don’t watch the race. There was so much beer drinking and partying it was amazing. I’m not even kidding, during the opening ceremonies, there were people dancing. Dancing! I’m not even kidding. I thought I was at Club Metro.

Thats exactly what urks me about; "we've gotta make the sport more mainstream."
Like those jerk offs are going to be spending money on the products that sponsor the teams out there.

You don't think those jerk offs will buy Jagar, Monster, Red Bull, or Rockstar?

I agree about the girls, and the drinking. It is kind of like taking your family to a Stripper Bar. One thing I noticed was this sport used to try and get the averge working Joe to buy a bike. Now it is the Guy that own's his own business. I have noticed the same trend in the Automotive industry. The fact is that the average guy can't afford these new products anymore.

I don't think they're any more slutty than the girls back in the 80's & 90's, they just don't have terrible perms anymore.

I knew I would get an energy drink remark from that cast.

How about:

Geico Insurance, Makita Power Tools, or Toyota & that's just the outside sponsors.

Those are not products purchased by the demographic they are shooting for. These products are geared towards people that have responsibility in their life. Not a shaggy haired, energy drinking, x box junkies that can't buy Jagar yet.

Not to mention these people have nothing to do with the racing community.

So you can forget:

Any motocross oriented company

that sponsors motocross events

to sell their motocross products

to a stadium full of people who don't ride motocross

these would be the backbone of our sport and 90% of the tuff blocks onthe track.

Wow, i just got a little less excited for some redneck & kids to block my view and spill beer on me next week at indy.

As far as the broads. Please, turn off the 700 club, or better yet turn off the x box games that your kids play. If a little cleavage & cheek is going to ruin a kid; what are the games that allow them to buy hookers; kill or trade them for drugs doing?

I remember when there wasn't one single girl in the mags..well, maybe one or two..

I would rather see pics of the local fan in the stands talent than the hired talent...

There's one major problem with his logic. If they catered to those "core" fans and not the general public, there would only be 5,000 people in the stands instead of 50,000. And SX riders would be making $50,000 instead of $500,000 or $5 mil.

Thats the slant I always hear from the other side and it legit but......
Read what I said a few posts up. When a dad drags 4 kids out for the weekend, "for something to do," they aren't going to reinvest in the industry. Besides an energy drink, ticket and maybe a t shirt. If you look at the crowd the amount of adults vs dependents is staggering. The guys that keep this industry going are the dads who invest the farm on making jr the next RV.

If Kawi isn't selling motocycles to race & pc isn't selling pipes to put on them, Monster isn't going to help fund thier racing team. People are infatuated with this upside pyramid for some reason. The grassroots are the backbone of this sport.
