They point out that thinking of it as a replacement for a traditional motocross bike is out of the question, but it sounds fun if you have the cash. I live on 5 acres in a sub-division, so I could ride this without anyone bothering me. I do want to see electric bikes based on real MX chassis (KTM, the hobbyist in Oregon) see widespread production though.

I wonder if it's 2 hours of full power? How much hp AT 1 HOUR? Does it have a charge meter? Sort of like a gas tank? Would suck to case a double because you thought you had a bit more juice left.

the 2 hour remark was how long it took to charge the battery (1/2 C charge rate).... if those cells are fairly robust, even a quicker 1C (1 hour charge- which is pretty much the norm for cells designed for high current applications) should be possible...

and seeing as how it's powered by lithium based cells, i guess you could eat the paste, but you might spend the rest of your life in the loony bin.......

in the hell for leather, they mention a 45 minute run time...... about a 1.5C average discharge.......... that's not much (not much as in, it's not pushing the batteries very hard) at all for any quality cells..... hell, ni-mh's can live fairly comfortably at 5C rates.... so either much hotter/faster motors should be able to be installed, OR, there are Much better cells that you could install to get longer run times and performance....

The writing is on the wall. That is the future.

The amount of R&D $$$ being thrown at any kind of battery development these days has got to be enormous. I would guess in 5-10 years an electric bike will be on par with current bikes. At least in the prototype stage.

I wonder if they will give it a sound chip? I've almost been hit twice now from electrics / hybrids in a parking structure. Damn things are SILENT!!!

I know that Brabus has a V8 engine sound chip for the Tesla roadster.

I recently discovered that website (hellforleather)

It is pretty avant-garde and completely different from the run-of-the mill bike site.

I really dread the day all MX bikes are electric other than the fact I can ride it in my back yard.

you'd have to have cards in the spokes or someting to make it seem "normal" no?

I thought the Holy Grail of MX bikes was to have an "electric" power band.

We may get our wish.

This is the future. We'd better accept that sooner or later. I see no negative whatsoever in this brave new world of ours.

The first test will be a memory for sure and since the entry of the four strokes, engine sounds became obsolete. Put in a MP3-player and speaker in the sucker with Stew going full on a KX or whatever.

I see potential in that. Imagine putting in Wagner music (like in the Apocalypse Now movie) or any other tune you like and spice up the experience for the audience. Seeing Bubba Stew with some rap-music or GP-rider BillyMac with some white supremacy tunes of personal choice would spice things up. Would be pretty cool!

Can I patent this?

Cool, but I got zero wood from reading about it.

I'll keep my inefficient polluting smoker...thank you very much.

This specific bike doesn't put a rise in my Levis either. However, not to beat a dead horse, but this one does: CRF250 Conversion
