I can still remember Henry started making a name with the number 69, then the following year he was 39, then 16. It used to take me all of a week to have all the new numbers memorized with their respective riders. Hard core followers never had a problem.
Marketing a sport only for hardcore followers is usually not a good business plan.

I like the permanent championship numbers, but...
I think the 450's should have 2-9 and 250's should have 10-19.
