I'm not a noob, I'm a mototalk and former motodrive transfer. I don't participate much, it's usually more trouble than it's worth.

I just want something better, I can see the potential and now that Feld has the keys to the place, and not CC, maybe they are open to suggestions.

You probably bash Wonder Warthog Racing for doing stuff like helping the little guys, because no one hauls the golf clubs around of the bottom feeders on the PGA Tour. Those bowlers actually have to bring their own shoes and balls to the contest, so why would anyone haul bikes, provide equipment and mechanics, reimburse entry fees, and a million other things those selfless bastards do.
No. Old topic of discussion, that's where my suggestions are along with a lot of others.

Did you think you came up with some new outstanding insightful topic that no one else did before you?

Nope, don't bash WWR, that's a positive. There are a lot of positives in the sport, just so happens all of those positives didn't come from anything Feld/Pace/AMA/LiveNation came up with.

On the contrary, those great promoters have taken their own fan base away by taking the amount of racing that was in the show away.

I gathered that... you know that's the term that's thrown around here for low post counts. Right or wrong, it is what it is, and by most accounts I am pretty noobish as well. Take the compliment, and thanks for your quality input.

Come on..............
It's not Feld's deal at all.
I can see why you think so ,
but I think & know your wrong.
Look, whether it's production bikes
against works bikes as in the past,
or say good tracks against the bad,
as they say, "the cream always rises to the top".
That's what you have here.
Regardless of year, team , or all else, the "winners'"
are what they are. That's why they're "winners".
Even in say "pro golf", they handicap players, &
again, "the cream rises to the top".
That's just it!

Dave O. I don't have a problem with the people who are winning, I'd just like to see them pass someone to stand on top of the box. I like that James is dominating. I loved to watch Michael Jordan play basketball. It's in Feld's best interest to do whatever it takes to make their sport as valuable as possible. Doing so, they need great racing to put more eyes on the track, right now, it's going the opposite way.

I would like to see a Dash for Cash for the guys that did not make the Main. Run one for the 20 guys that did not make the Main in the 250s and the then another race for the 20 guys that did not make the Main in the 450s. Run them between the LCQ’s and the Mains. I did not like when they ran Semi’s as the teams did not have enough time between Heats, Semi’s, LCQ’s and Mains to make repairs. But for the guys that did not make the Mains, give them a chance to make some money. Pay first, second and third. Do it like Kidd use to do it in Arenacross and let the audience sponsor it. Take donations and let them name their company on the microphone when they donate. Those three privateers would probably make more in purse for the Dash for Cash then first through third in the Mains. Always entertaining as those guys give it their all.

I never said you weren't a loyal fan. I'm glad that you support the sport. You still aren't their target market. SX doesn't fill stadiums with people like you. They fill stadiums with families looking for entertainment, not guys trying to learn from the racers.

Now MX is for you. You are exactly who they market to. That's why they run in subpar facilities and have crowds less than 1/3rd of SX.
They are filling the stands. Why change a thing? The average entertainment seeker seems fully satisfied with situation of the past 7 years........they keep coming don't they?

The people who care are the enthusiasts of the sport but you claim we are not their target market so why would they change for us?

Dude be careful with your words. My family attends 1-3 events each year. We NEVER miss a race on TV. We purchase 3 new bikes, parts and gear every year. My two teenage sons have been riding since they were 5. Yes there is Monster in the fridge. Yes we own 2 toyota trucks.

All we do is work, ride, train, race, work on bikes, and watch the pro's to learn from not to see who wins.

Please don’t take this a being disrespectful because it not ment to be, but the demographics that will ensure this sports success are people that aren’t involved in the sport directly other than being a fan.

put restricted carb's with plombering on each bike, like in speedway, then the races
getting thigter, and more fun to watch, I think

Could do like they so at some of the Euro SX's and run a "Super-Main" where they take the top 10 of each class and race them together.

Make that a "Dash for Cash"

The top non-quali's can race a "B Main"

Chad many of your points are well taken, as
I read on maybe I looked at it differently.
But again, Feld can suggest only!
Maybe "strong arm" some in the AMA's direction
for change. You see Feld doesn't sanction the race
or make rulings or rule changes. Schedule changes
even are run by the AMA. There's that little piece
of paper called a contract, & the AMA's king!
It's Feld's show, yet AMA's series & race!
Chad Reed's series down under has some interesting
things going on to make it & keep it exciting.
But again, outside of snake pits & alligators, winners
will rise to the top. Format changes for next year,
I agree, bring it on, at least as far as discussion goes.
Of course, between Feld & the AMA they have to think
as spectators then maybe they'll see it too..............

Here is my idea posted over at MT for a better evening of AMA Supercross Racing....

10 shootout races of 2 laps each (or maybe 5 at 4 laps each). 1st place- 20pts, 2nd- 19, 3rd- 18, etc. Gate picks are opposite of prior shootout results. Give them ~2 minutes after end of each 2-lap shootout to get back in the gates, and send them back out towards the first turn 45 seconds later.

This would be tough to pull off, but personally I would also like to see the top ten qualifiers in a "A Main" and the bottom ten in a "B Main" with both of them seperately running the previously mentioned 10 2-lap shootouts.

Everyone has to admit that watching them all slam into that first turn packed in together. We also have to admit that with the current format we are watching the leaders start lapping guys 2-3 laps in. This just creates a big sea of riders all around the track for the spectators at the track and even those watching on tv.

With this format we would get to see the exciting start 10 times and not have to watch a blob of riders engulf the track.

Whatcha think?

I have always had a problem with the way this industry does its marketing. They do most of their marketing and promoting toward people that are already involved in the industry instead of trying to reach new people. Nascar has done a brilliant job of making the drivers household names.
Unfortunately MX/SX is all about 1 person and when the gate drops that one person will win most of the time. There isnt much anyone can do to change that.
I think the sport should do something to level the playing field when it comes to the equipment. Make everyone run stock engines or something. The advantages that a factory team have over a privateer are incredible.
Like someone else said atleast nascar has made steps to level the playing field and the racing has got much better. All the cars are identical, no testing anymore, 1 engine per weekend, etc.....Nascar has done several things for the little guy to be able to be competitive and the money it has saved everyone is off the charts.
In MX/SX whoever has the deepest pockets gets the best rider and the best equipment.
I dont think changing a race format is going to change the outcome of these races. JS & CR will still be up front.
And for the one who thinks the guys that drive in Nascar are not atheletes, your an idiot. You have no idea what it takes to drive one of those cars for 4 hours at those speeds. The endurance, concentration, hand eye coordination they have are off the charts. This isnt Billy BoB racing in the mountains anymore. I wouldnt bash a sport that has turned itself into a billion dollar operation. I would pay attention and learn from them.

Does anyone watch the lites class?
When everyone is on the same level the racing is great.
I guess: MC, RC, Reed, & Stewart have ruined MX & SX because they are so good.
Take that handicap & restrictor plate bullshit back to the links and the oval.

B Mains & Super Mains would be sweet as hell though.

I went to the Houston SX a few weeks ago and next week I will miss the Atlanta SX for the first time in 17 years. Taking away the day qualifiers and the semis plus the fact that you pretty much know who is going to win makes the hassle and cost of going not really worth it.

Again, I don't want to change who wins... I'd love to see the same guy have an undefeated SX season. I just want to see him have to make a pass after lap 1 to do it. I want to see racing. if Bubbles is the fastest guy out there, then he should win, but running away from the field after turn 1 isn't going to keep eyes on the tube or butts in the seats.

Dave O. I think Feld has more power than most believe when it comes to the format. They took out the semi's for TV and I think they can make other changes to support spectators as well. I agree, it's a slippery slope, but the AMA knows the drill, they can be gone tomorrow and no one will care.

The 250 class is the only class that's remotely interesting now. I don't agree with any change that cripples bikes or puts everyone on stock equipment. Safety becomes a factor. If anything, I say get rid of all the rules on production crap and let the "works" bikes out...

yea works bikes will fix it. make it even more expensive than it already is for the privateers that sleep in their vans and eat PB&J sandwiches just to get to the next round.

Safety a factor if they were on a stock bike? Come on dude are you kidding me?

This is suppsed to be professional racing not some circus event where they handicap the best riders and make them kill themselves trying to get to the front where they deserve to be. Not every race is going to be 5 guys side by side battling for 20 laps.

I would like to see some of the racing be a little more competitive but it doesnt need to be a freak show trying to get there.

JS is one of the best in the history of this sport. Sit back and enjoy history in the making.

So if you went to Atlanta for 17 years in a row, during that time you never thought that MC was going to win? You never thought RC was going to win? Come on dude.....
We all know who has the best chance to win but we never know who is going to win.
If you dont go to a race for that reason then maybe you arent the fan you claim to be.

Chuck, you must have been home schooled. You never read my entire comment - "I suggest offering points for qualifying" -- If you want to sandbag, you won't be getting points for qualifying. So fine, bomb qualifying, miss the 25 points available and then win the main, getting 25 points. You just got 25, as compared to the guy who got 2nd in qualifying getting 22 points, and then finishes 5th in the main, getting 16 points, so 38 points total.

mxdad - if you are their target market (you aren't) then call it an exhibition, put a big floppy set of ears on Stewy's bike and call it Yama-mutt. This isn't monster trucks. Let me guess, you want them to put a school bus on the track for them to jump over too?
25 points for qualifying and 25 points for mains? How badly and quickly do you want "Stewy" to spank the rest of the pack? You think that would make the season exciting.

How about a few points for holeshots, this would enable 800 to finish the season in the top ten.

As for Feld you can expect to see changes next year.

The simplest way to fix the racing would be to give the 18 guys on the starting gate not wearing #7 and # 1 a 5 second head start. Then watch Reed and Stewart battle while picking off the other riders 2 and 3 at a time. They should test run this in Vegas this year! lol

How about you just watch the fucking race and enjoy it for what it is. There are lots of battles going on all over the track. I myself like to watch riders dicing it up in the middle of the pack just as much as the leaders. If you get bored watching Motocross you are ...

A. Not a true fan or

B. Have a severe case of ADHD and you need to get your doses adjusted .

Post a reply to: Feld - I suggest you fix the SX format ASAP
